Well maybe we are the only ones left with morals then...

This world has so many problems because people don't have morals anymore.

No. Your morals are just boring and unfun! Boo!

Wind, wat.

Then you have a warped vision of what's right and what's wrong....

I honestly can't see how anyone could think that's right, it's so crazy..

Oh my dears look what this conversation has turned into.

To say someone has a warped sense of right and wrong is very... mean and self-righteous. And I don't think it's fair to say at all. This is a big misunderstanding.

People, um, like sex. And that's okay. Sex is a big deal. It's not the ultimate goal of a loving relationship but it's something people want, and it's what happens when two people love each other. Some people have a different view of that, but regardless I don't think there's harm as long as you're not exploiting someone for sex. Every once in a while you get a guy who genuinely hates women and just wants to hurt as many of them as possible, but I think that's pretty rare, and that's still pretty questionable in most views.

And it's also okay if you left a movie because you didn't like the over-sexuality of it. It doesn't make you a prude to not want overly provocative signals shoved into your face. But the media aren't to blame, they're just one part of a perpetuating society that just isn't perfect.

I'm only blaming the media for falling into this crap in the first place, but it's kinda a different story.

Transformers was a movie that shouldn't have been, that's all I'm saying.

I have broken wire somewhere in my brain that switches my reactions to immoral things and lowbrow humor.

When something is outrageously immoral, I find it absolutely hilarious. When something is trying hard to be funny and failing, I get extremely offended.

Watched Transformers 2, it was great. BUT..
Optimus Kicks the bucket too early in the movie, not enough Prime time, as well as not enough robot time in the movie. It was too focused on the humans for someone to get to know the new robots. Same problem in the first movie I guess.

there's more parts I don't like, but I can see past all that and love this movie. The above was my only real problem.
OTHER THAN THAT GO SEE THE MOVIE KTHXBAI

Before the fireworks I watched Tarzan on the Disney channel (my girlfriend and I were at a friend's house).
She fell asleep with her head on my lap and I REALLY had to do pee through the whole movie but didn't.

I really liked the animation for it. Hadn't seen it in a while and the older I get, the more I understand how complex it must have been.
It was very fun to watch how fast he moves.

Anyways, screw cable.
While I was watching Tarzan, during a fast part the picture started to block up, like a low quality internet video.
It was extremely distracting.

ALSO.
The Disney channel is stupid. Every commercial break made me want to shut off the TV because it dumbed me down.

And Disney doesn't even have REAL commercials! They could, technically, not air any commercials.

Because they're #####ing Disney.

But they CHOOSE to air commercials promoting only Disney-related products and things.

They've always had commercials, but they're more like promotions for their own shows on the channel, quick mini-features for Disney movies like THE MOVIE SURFERS, stuff about new Disney DVD's, or events and stuff.

What I mean is...

OK the Canadian version of Disney Channel is called Family Channel--although it is completely owned by Disney so I don't see the point of the name change--and it has commercials, just like those, with the mini-features, including stuff like those horrible movie surfers and "music" videos, but they are ONLY seen inbetween programming. So shows and movies are never interrupted, even if a continent explodes.

It is, naturally, not at all weird for a channel to have commercials in shows, but I just figured the American version would be the same.

Well, I suppose that it was because it was a movie, these 'commercials' were only every half an hour.

The Argentinian Disney Channel does have actual commercials, not just Disney's, but only a few.
Also, they are like a normal channel. Twenty or so minutes of program, commercial cut, repeat.

Normal channels have commercial cuts more often than that, though honestly, there really isn't a set timer. It depends on what show and what time it's playing for how many commercial cuts they throw in there. Some hour-long episodes of Lost can have as many as 7 commercial breaks.

And yeah, I think Disney Channel only has them between shows, or at least once during, like an act break or something.

I didn't think it was that bad. My only complain was that they didn't use real fire and real animals.
Maybe it has something to do with me not paying for it, but being invited. I can't go all like "I payed (MONEY) for this?!"

"Moon" looks fantastic but apparently it's hardly playing anywhere. I've been really looking forward to it.

Two others that look great are World's Greatest Dad (though the trailer makes it look awful) and Big Fan.

Is it wrong that I think the noviciate in Sister Act is a cutie pie?

Posted on: 13 July 2009, 00:07:39

I'll take the silence to mean "We all agree with you Mike" and move on;

I saw The Hurt Locker tonight on pass. I liked it. I didn't really like it at first, but my main issues resolved themselves. Mainly, I wasn't into there being jokey stuff (more on that in a sec) and the main character is a bit of a cowboy.

About the jokes, they probably weren't bad but there's two reasons I didn't like them;

The first is simply that I was in a theatre where the audience was broadcasting their feelings over everything. This is usually fine, but maybe because it was a small theatre filled with a middle aged crowd it felt a lot louder or over the top. And they found all the jokes too funny. Much too funny. And they laughed at things that aren't jokes. Blood jammed ammo is so incredibly not funny.

The second reason is also simple. The movie is about soldiers in Iraq, specifically the ones who defuse IEDs in Iraq. The reason I don't like any of this, at all, being made light of, at all, is that this is exactly what my cousin did in Afghanistan. Both times he served. So this kind of thing is possibly closer to me than most people.

But besides those things I did LIKE the movie. It kept up a constant sense of dread, or anticipation, that I thought was good. It's impossible to make a movie that can even come close to the feeling of the constant need for awareness of actual war, anyway.

It had some excellent shots, my favourite being when you can see a guy's eye through his scope on his sniper rifle--That's a bad explanation but if you see the movie you'll probably recognize what I mean.

Nothing in the movie surprised me, but it was not really predictable. The crowd in the theatre got surprised often enough so I don't know. But a friendly nameless character getting shot during a firefight is not a surprise. In the same firefight, every subsequent enemy kill is not a surprise. I have a theory about their perceptions of what war is compared to mine based on a generation gap. To not get too much into it, their perceptions of "war" are built on them growing up during the Cold War and ONLY the Cold War until 9/11. The Cold War didn't affect my perceptions because I was born during it's closing years. But the further details of the theory would be too long to get into right now.

So anyway, interesting movie. I liked it enough and it got better than it started out.

Posted on: 13 July 2009, 22:26:08

Oh yah last night I saw Brüno and liked ischt, but in all I think he vas funnier on Da Ali G Show than in the movie, where as Borat was more or less equal in his movie with him in the show. Weird.

Today I trek out of the city to see H-Pizzle and the Half Blood Prizzle.
