It's a movie, starring Sean Penn. It's about a real life politician named Harvey Milk. He was gay and fought for gay rights.

So I'm seeing Watchmen at the midnight premiere.

I'm going to dress up as Dr. Manhattan.

I'm not seriously dressing up. I'd NEVER do that. Halloween is the only dress-up time for me.

The joke was that Dr. Manhattan is naked.

Just got back from watching Watchmen.
While I'm not too keen on some of the changes, particularly everything at the end, I still heavily enjoyed it. It's a great movie whether you read the comic book or not.

One thing that bugs me is the changing of the whole "Alien Attack" to "Dr. Manhattan Attacks". Though, while I do like what happens in the comic book, I do have to say that the Dr. Manhattan one would make more sense.

Also, Adrian doesn't scream "I DID IT!" and that made me a little sad.
Overall, great movie.

Good to hear. I'm seeing it tonight with some other friends since my group for midnight flopped.

Though I woke up to a text from my roommate who apparently went to see it at midnight that said:
"sorry dude but watchmen sucked ass"

EDIT: If anyone had any hope for that Dragonball movie (and shame on you if you did!), here's the final nail in the coffin:

I picked up Clerks II for $5.

I saw Taken the other night. I really liked it, although I'm annoyed that it was cut so it could get a PG-13 rating. I'll pick it up on DVD when it comes out.

What really bothered me about the movie is his daughter's friend
After he discovers her dead, he just leaves the body in the room. What happens to the body, did the authorities recover it and send it home? Or is it there still in France? And what about her family? They never really touch on the fact after Bryan gets his daughter back, that his daughter and her friend just spent almost 96 hours in a world terrible, disturbing world that caused her friend to be filled with drugs and be used for sex and die because of it. Granted, Bryan's daughter was probably also coked up at the time, but don't you think that would cause her to come out of it #####ed up?
I also watched Babylon A.D. I thought it was okay, but it definitely isn't a good or bad movie. Interesting enough to keep my attention while I wait for another Riddick movie (which you know the studio execs were trying to go for), but not great enough for me to recommend people going off to buy it. Rent it.

...just watched Watchmen.

I could go way into detail on this... but overall I really liked it. I mean, I really liked it.

I'm impressed.

They definitely cut a LOT of important stuff out, and you'll never get the full experience unless you read the book, but I totally feel that it did as much as it could have done as a film of such a detailed, complicated comic.

I went with a large group of people, and only two of us had read it. Pretty much everybody we went with loved the movie, so that's good news. Both the other guy who had read it and I approved.

My only complaint that there wasn't enough blue #####. I mean, after all the talk, I was expecting so much blue ##### and I had prepared myself for so much blue ##### and all I got was a little blue ##### (mind you it wasn't actually a little blue #####.)

But yeah, only watch if you want to. I had more fun seeing that for the first time on a big screen in a theater.

I just got back from Watchmen. It's completely possible that this is due to the fact that I'm not familiar with the source material (I'm not really the comic type) but I was totally underwhelmed. The blue guy and Mr. Inkblot where pretty much the only characters that I found even remotely interesting (maybe the comedian, if he would have gotten more character development time) and for the most part it just felt like they where trying to do too much at once.

I have to imagine that the comic does a much better job with the material, because I don't think the paint-by-numbers film a just saw deserves the cult following the franchise seems to have.

On a related note: Does anyone else find it annoying when movies like this come out and people who you KNOW didn't even know the comic existed try to front like they're OG?

Dicks like that are the reason I try to read as much of the source material for comic book movies as possible before I see them, to avoid the possibility of becoming such a dick.

Why would someone lie about something so dumb? Ugh.

I had an opportunity to see the movie, I decided ##### that. And it's bombing at our theatre.

Geoff came to work in costume again. He was Rorschach this time. A handful of little #####s walked up to his podium (he was ripping tickets) and were like "Who are you supposed to be?" and the poster of Watchmen was like right next to him. Maybe Rorschach wasn't on that poster, whatever. Apparently they were giving him trouble for being in a costume (because it's so dorky, right guys), but this is Geoff, so he doesn't take it. Still I wish I was there. I have more authority, I would've told them to shut up or get out.

This is the same guy who came as Iron Man, Jigsaw, and the Joker. I thought he might've been great as the Comedian, but no, he wanted to wear white panty-hose. Apparently a girl caught him with some panty-hose in the aisle of Zellers and he had his face up to it to see if he could see through it okay. And he was breathing really hard through it to see if he could breathe. Oh man I was dying when I heard that.

Right.

Watchmen was pretty good... err if you've read it. I guess. I've read it, so I don't know what it's like if you haven't but it really is almost only the highlights of the book (of which there are many but still, if you wanted to do it perfect it would be like a four hour movie).

What was weird was even beyond what Edge said, they left some stuff in that actually makes no sense unless you've read it.
For instance, The Comedian saying "Is this what gets you hot?" to Hooded Justice. Or the two men at the news stand hugging in the explosion.
I liked it but I have a small handful of minor issues with it.

I have to imagine that the comic does a much better job with the material

It does. I REALLY does. And there's a LOT more in the history of The Minutemen that's actually important. Also,
The explosion thing is a completely different sort of trick. Especially taking into consideration that the arrival of Dr. Manhattan actually lead to them solving the fossil fuel crisis in the book.
On a related note: Does anyone else find it annoying when movies like this come out and people who you KNOW didn't even know the comic existed try to front like they're OG?

Yes. Very.
I'd heard of Sin City but hadn't read it, and my friend had read some but couldn't find all of it until they reprinted them like ape ##### for the movie. Neither of us fronted.

I'd read about half of Watchmen and new the ending before the movie was announced, then I went back and re-read all of it.

Anyway I think the movie was as good as it could be and I really liked it despite little things.

I just feel bad for the people who haven't read it, because they're just missing out on a lot. It feels more like a supplement than a movie, and you feel sad because this is also the best we're ever gonna' get. But also glad that we got it in this form.

I mean, one of the old scripts apparently had it all taking place in modern times, like Dr. Manhatten went to Iraq and ##### like that. Considering that was a possibility, it just makes this movie all the better.

My favorite line in the entire movie was when what's-her-name asked who's-his-face if something was wrong, while he was standing naked in the basement/sewer in the middle of the night and staring at his old costume.

Does anything about that scenario NOT seem wrong?

Also, Blue Dude gets my respect NOT because he has crazy blue dude powers, but because his junk is immune to shrinkage, even at arctic temperatures.

About "what's-her-name", I was disappointed they didn't have the bit about her not using the name "Jupiter" and using her family's ACTUAL Polish last name "Juspeczyk". I thought leaving that and her ##### relationship with her mother out of the movie basically ditched a large part of her character. She just became "the girl in the movie" of the movie.

Just got back from seeing it. Pretty good, but I got tired of Dr. Manhattan's blue junk gently flapping in the breeze every second scene. And the whole disintegrating-people-except-for-their-blood-which-goes-spraying-everywhere-instead was slightly excessive.

I also noted that they took special care to avoid destroying the World Trade Centre.

When compared to what the majority of Americans are used to in their films, yes it was.

I didn't care, but I did find it annoying when some of the women I know got on a "it's about time" kick where they complained about the way breasts are so common in movies, so it was nice to see some wang. That's not the same though. In our culture there really isn't a male equivalent to breasts. Showing some guys doodle is analogous to showing a woman's vertical smile, not her chest.

How does that elude some people?

It's still some full-frontal male nudity in an R-rated film, and that's definitely a LOT rarer than breasts. So, in a way, it's still valid because it's a private manbit being shown.

Went to go see Watchmen with my friends last night.

Blue junk is unnoticeable unless you specifically look for it, but mostly because Manhattan himself doesn't seem to care at all.

Rorschach wound up being my favorite character, and I honestly would have liked the movie a lot better if it followed mostly Rorschach and all of the useless sex scenes were cut.
Seriously, not necessary or enjoyable in the slightest.

Overall, though, as little as I understood at the beginning, I was more than capable of following the plot and understanding the alternate reality concept and scenario well before everything came to a head, so the movie got that right.

Did manage to work up a new in-joke type thing; "<...> A fate worse than blue <junk>."
