I think my favorite thing about it is one part where there's a computer screen and a mouse and keyboard because it's the exact same mouse I own and am using right now. You can even see the glowing infrared light from underneath the mouse!

Also, if you haven't tried it, it's just as much fun zooming out in the other direction.

I've done an art collab quilt thing before but never a zoom one, that's pretty cool.

I had a roommate like that once. People always stole his beer, and he would always leave passive aggressive notes on the fridge, demanding the beer be replaced, and then going on to list acceptable types.

Did he throw parties and invite people that clearly hated him too?
'Cause that would be pretty funny.

I would add this guy just to tell him off if I wasn't totally paranoid that if over the internet I tell some stranger to kill themselves then they might actually do it.

It did to me. I thought, "Wait, isn't he DC?"

But that really doesn't bother me. To me, personally, comic book characters are comic book characters. Although having the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles there would be a little weird, so I don't know.

I don't know who he is (I do now, I google'd it), but I'll assume he's "the Marvel guy".

Yes, that is weird.

But now that I think about it, I should have recognized him, because I know he made appearances in his own Marvel films. I especially remember him talking to Peter in one of the Spider-Man movies.

That's not really common knowledge. I bet I could pick out a bunch of people at college who don't know Stan Lee, so there's nothing shame worthy there really.

A worse scenario was when over a year ago, I didn't know who Rosa Parks was. Like, the name rang a bell, but I had no clue.

I know. It was a speech teacher that brought the subject up. You wouldn't believe this, but he pointed at every single one of us in the classroom asking, "Do you know who Rosa Parks is?".

None of us knew.

It was a class of about 20 people.

He shook his head, and said, "This is sad. Honestly, I can't believe it." Then he pointed at me and said, "Especially you, you're going to be a history teacher."

It didn't mean anything at the time because I haven't taken any history classes yet, but yeah, after he went over it, I felt pretty stupid.

I don't know if I like your mom or Chaos' class anymore.

I especially remember him talking to Peter in one of the Spider-Man movies.
Spider-Man 3 is the only Spidey movie he really says anything in, but I don't know if it was TO Peter. He didn't play Uncle Ben.

He only makes small cameos. For instance in Spider-Man he yelled "Look out!" and pushed a girl out of the way of falling debris when the Green Goblin attacked the parade. In X-Men he sold hotdogs or something. In The Incredible Hulk he died from drinking gamma radiated pop and in X3 he held a garden hose.

Yeah, he said to Peter, "You know, I guess one person can make a difference. 'nuff said."

Also, WIND, just a random fact... there are people who actually believe the holocaust didn't exist and it was a conspiracy.

Stan Lee also played an obvious role in Iron Man, he was some guy on the red carpet that Tony talked to for a split second.

I have a friend who is just missing huge chunks of pop culture and history.

He had no idea who Kurt Cobain was. He claimed to have never heard a Beatles song before. He didn't know Kim Jong Il was a real person and thought he was just a made-up character for Team America.

Oh, Rosa Parks is that woman who didn't give her seat to a white passenger.

But seriously, why should I care about recent history? The holocaust happened, Rosa Parks happened, so what? Why should I care about them? It has nothing to do with me and my life now and nor will it ever. It's completely irrelevant to me.

I care about now and I care about the future. The most I can make out of History is making a game based off some Historic events. I don't need to know about how all of these people did some crazy stuff to make the USA a more sane place to live (not to mention I don't live in the US anyway), and I don't need to know about all the genocides that the world has taken part in. I don't need to know about anything about History. It won't change who I am and it won't change my life.

My life would be the exact same if I've never heard of the Holocaust. My life would be the exact same if I didn't learn about a lot of things I know about the history of the Earth.

I really can't seem to form the right words to describe my feelings on the past, so I'm probably sounding like a huge douche right now. It all basically boils down to the fact that it's irreverent to me and my life.

Yeah, like... Vinch. Seriously.

I can write an essay why history is important, but here's just a small sample derived from a famous quote.

Person A who lived in the year 1500 falls into a hole, and dies of starvation.

Person B who lives in present day LEARNED from the history of Person A, and avoids said hole.

Person C who lives in present day said screw it, falls into said hole, and dies of starvation.

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." ~George Santayana

Here's an entire list of quotes.

I just recently did a report on the Crash of 1929, and how it's relevant to our daily lives. The issue with the crash was because Government didn't control the economy or the market. After the crash, we've learned from them, respected our failures and successes, so we don't repeat it.

By your logic, you shouldn't care. You shouldn't care what happens to your neighbor or economy, or who runs into power. That's extremely foolish, and I never thought you would say that. Really.

Nope. I never said I hated high school history. Don't think I even mentioned my high school history in that post. In fact, I loved my Canadian History class. I cared enough for it to get marks into the high 80s for that class.

Back then, it WAS relevant to my life. I had to know about it to pass the course, right? So I learned about the Famous Five, a couple important Prime Ministers, WW and WWII and the horrific events that occurred and also how much ass we kicked (specifically in WWII).

But today, does knowing that knowledge help me in life any way? I'm not a History Teacher, nor am I a History Scholar of some sort. I don't need to know about this stuff.

I can write an essay why history is important,

I'm sure you can, and I'm sure you're right. I never said History wasn't important.

By your logic, you shouldn't care. You shouldn't care what happens to your neighbor or economy, or who runs into power. That's extremely foolish, and I never thought you would say that. Really.

No, my logic is that a lot of things in history I don't need to know about because it's not relevant to me or my interests. My interests are today and the future. So of course I care about what happens to my neighbour and the economy, I care about all of those things, because it affects my future. My history, however, is set in stone.

No. No, it would not. Not even a little bit.

Really? Because history directly LED to your life and is constantly shaping it. The events of the past in turn created other events that in turn led to your parents getting drunk one night and having wild animal sex and then the next day conceiving you in a morning quickie. And if that's not exactly how it went down, you can't argue with me because you just said you don't care about history.

That's the thing, if you're involved socially, you need to study socially. That's why it's called Social Studies. You learn why a certain culture acts a certain way or why something happened through history.

Also, history is always changing to an extent, because we're always reformulating it due to recent discovery. Although you're right that if someone dies, you can't undo their death, it's important to understand how and why it occurred. Although it's in the past, the subject will come up over and over again to this very day and in the future. History just provides so many answers about your life and what path you should take. Your economy, for example, has been formulated in a way to avoid times like the 1930s.

You're saying this now, but you might change your mind.

History is boring.

You're doomed to repeat it if you know what it is or not.

And JC, if it's any consolation, I've spent the last few years studying international history for school, and I've learned all sorts of stuff. That said: having gone from uneducated to relatively informed, I don't feel as though my life as really been enriched in any significant way. It's good stuff to know in terms of culture, but it has absolutely zero practical value to the average person.
