Title: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Johncarllos on 23 June 2009, 21:04:56
Because WIND is a dink and locked his topic.

All stories, pictures, or websites can be posted here for the masses.

To start things off, I think this is interesting.

Aw, come on. Blastoise didn't look bad in Red/Blue version. In fact, he looked insane in Yellow...

He was just chubby, that's all.

EDIT: JUST CHUBBY, THAT'S ALL. ...damn, I don't remember him looking like that though. Still isn't bad though.

Holy CRAP that is INSANE.

Below is an official part of the color storyboards from Up (http://louromano.blogspot.com/2009/06/up-color-script.html).

They totally should have made him look like this in the final product! At least now we have NO DOUBTS as to whether or not he was meant to be asian.

So, uh... Michael Jackson died of a heart attack today.

I heard this on the bus home and people were like laughing, so I thought it was just another teen joke that wasn't funny so I went back to listening to my music. I guess that's why I heard "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" on the radio at the mall.

I actually like MJ still, I guess, so it sucks. I mean, he was The Kind Of Pop.

Also Farrah Fawcett, that sucks too. But not to be totally disrespectful, it's not like she was doing anything anyway.

... Yeah that was totally disrespectful after all. I didn't meant it to be but there it is.

Of the deaths that have already happened today, that one would sadden me the most. Good thing it's bull#####.

I'm surprised Billy Mays had to go. Everyone's off about Michael Jackson, but I'm actually gonna miss this guy.

Different generations are gonna remember MJ differently and care accordingly. If you weren't around when he was in his prime you have no idea how big he was. He was a cultural phenomenon above everyone in his time in terms of pop music and fashion. In fact, at the time every big thing in fashion; If you saw anyone wearing a motorcycle jacket, white socks with black shoes, cropped black pants, etc.-- It all came from him. I mean, whole families stayed up late when MTV aired the Black and White video the first time. If you watch the Motown 25th anniversary you can see the crowd go APE when he did the moonwalk for the first time. And really, almost every artist in pop, hip-hop, and more have a clear Michael Jackson influence in their sound, style, and moves.

If you born later you just can't remember how huge he was 'cause you weren't there, and all you get is the unfortunate freakshow end years. You can choose to remember how you want if you saw it, or most of it. Otherwise you can't possibly understand, I think. Undoubtedly something just like this will happen we're older and you'll get it.

I'm not saying this specifically at you, Chaos. I'm just a touch tired of people going off like "WOW I DON'T CARE" online on Facebook or wherever. It's about as annoying as everyone talking about it in their status, especially when it's coming from people who obviously couldn't care. Like clearly I don't have much to talk about for the death of JFK, I wasn't there.

I'm just gonna choose to remember the Michael Jackson I've BEEN remembering.
Beat it.

It should also be noted that he isn't actually in jail. He was arrested, yes, but no charges where formally pressed. This is largely due to the fact that he punched her in the face because she bit his tongue and wouldn't let go.

My guess is: Shlomi don't pay for strange.

Don't get me wrong, I do like a little bit of his songs and dance style, but some of the things I heard that's gone through his life (not just the end of it either) was unfortunate. I'm wondering how his sister feels about this though.

First it says boiling chocolate, then melted. I'd find it hard to believe it was boiling, but maybe they were implying that it was really hot.

And then they say he suffered a head injury, and mention nothing about burns. So right now I'm imagining not only is he drowning, but drowning in really uncomfortably hot chocolate. Maybe depending on the consistency of the chocolate they'd have it melted at a much more painful temperature. No, not a good way to die.

DON'T EVEN JOKE, BOY.

Wow. This is my leet post.

If I ever actually give Weeds a real shot it won't be just because I've heard good things, but mostly because the girl seems like a total bettie.

I don't know if Time used to be smart, but it's always put on an air that it's classy or something to me. However, this is clearly not the case anymore with all this Facebook and Lolcats jargon on there.

AOL leaked out 3 months worth of search logs and these are some of the hilarious results:

http://www.somethingawful.com/d/weekend-web/aol-search-log.php

Here's some of my favorites:

This one is great because it just gets increasingly more depressing until it finally lands on Chuck E. Cheese as if that's the logical next step:

This isn't really anything but I just read it and am gonna post it anyway;

Tuesday July 14

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say actor LeVar Burton was involved in a five-car accident but wasn't seriously injured.

Detective Judy Acosta says Burton's 2006 Mercedes was on Beverly Boulevard in West Los Angeles at about 7:40 p.m. Monday when a 74-year-old woman in a 2006 Scion turned left in front of him.

Acosta says the cars collided. Burton's vehicle then hit a parked car, leading to a chain reaction that damaged two other parked cars.

Acosta says both drivers complained of pain, then were examined at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and released. Nobody was ticketed.

Burton, 52, was in the TV miniseries "Roots," ''Star Trek: The Next Generation" and was the longtime host of "Reading Rainbow."

How badly hurt could she possibly be? A few scrapes is nothing, get 'em cleaned up and you're all set.

Anyway cell phones aren't that big and they don't block the majority of your vision, so the problem lies with her either needing glasses or having no mental perception (in terms of actually SEEING the things your eyes pick up) or reflexes whatsoever. The problem isn't texting and walking, like 90% of adults are going to say.

If I had actually begun to fall I'd prop my elbows forward and at worst slam my ribcage into something. But you know, that's why you have a ribcage. IT PROTECTS YOU.

They are kind of deep sometimes, and there's the wall and a ladder to bust yourself up on.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 15 July 2009, 01:00:37
I wouldn't say it's her fault. Sometimes when you focus so much on something, you fail to notice the things around you.

If anything, it's whoever opened the manhole's fault for not putting up a fence of some sort or even pylons.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ASR on 15 July 2009, 01:12:23
The reason the article is funny is because it probably wouldn't have been written if the girl weren't texting.

As in, sure, a girl falling into a manhole is noteworthy, but the fact that she was texting is likely what caused the article to be written. People love to vilify texting.

And texting IS stupid, but I do it and so does everybody else so I give up.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Johncarllos on 15 July 2009, 01:24:47
It's more distracting to the texter, but less annoying to those around.

I'd rather just have telepathy and get it over with.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Majikn on 15 July 2009, 01:36:11
I feel like falling into a manhole would mess you up real good, actually.

It's not big enough for you to fall all the way in. Remember that if you're taking a step and your foot lands on nothing, your other foot is still on the ground. You fall forward, your body hits the other side of the hole. You don't fall all the way in unless you plant both feet over the "nothing" at the same time. THEN it's dangerous. But we're not JUMPING so that's not going to happen.

See, I actually think about these things. I'm not coming in saying if you fall right in and smash your face against the bars of the ladder and then scrape your back against the other side of the wall and then fall forward and hit your face on something again until you finally land won't hurt you, I'm saying that just wouldn't happen.

I wouldn't say it's her fault. Sometimes when you focus so much on something, you fail to notice the things around you.

That's actually the lesson she should've got from it. She needs to focus on what she's doing. I don't think the lesson should be treated as an excuse that absolves her from any sort of blame. By saying it's not her fault, you're suggesting that we need to be watched over at all times, that we can't take responsibility for our actions.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ASR on 15 July 2009, 02:13:28
She needs to focus on what she's doing.

So the lesson is she needs to focus more on texting!

Ahaha, that's not what I linked to at all, but I enjoyed seeing footage of the actual girl. I love people like that. It's clearly not the city's fault, but she's immediately realized that everyone's blaming the city and she gets off scot-free for her idiocy. And she's milking it.

It's like that one episode of Invader Zim where the girl scout gets her leg caught in the mole-hill and all the media comes to report on her and she loves the fame. "The Girl Who Cried Gnome."

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot: the video I posted that was removed was some dude doing a leg sweep to some girl that was annoying him. She hit the ground hard.

They're pool toys. You throw them underwater and they just rocket forward because of the way they're weighted.

And yes, they look like dildoes. It's not like everyone over the age of 15 who plays with one hasn't made that joke about them before.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!

I've never seen them actually sold AS "toypedos." That's just what we call them. They usually have different names. Tons of companies make 'em, it's a generic pooltoy. So, yeah, it's funny when one brand actually formats it like that.

Love the Baby one.

The Ate Your Cat one is only funny because there's two flyers (and apparently a third we can't see) just to drive the point home.

Louis C.K. is my favorite comedian by far, easily one of the funniest people alive, and maybe this short clip of him in an interview on Conan will make you all believers as well:

"IN THE SKY"

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ASR on 6 August 2009, 22:35:05
"IT'S GOING TO SPACE"

I seriously cannot figure out why he isn't more famous. I mean, comedy nerds know and worship him... but outside of that niche, a lot of people aren't aware of his presence. Comedy Central shows him a lot of love by airing his specials a bit, but that's the most exposure he really gets.

He was a writer on Conan and does a lot of TV work which obviously doesn't really get his name out there. He's also co-written a handful of movies with Chris Rock.

But yeah, if you get the chance to watch one of his specials, do it. For yourself. Youtube his stand-up.

Post by: Majikn on 6 August 2009, 22:56:43
Someone definitely posted that already, and if it wasn't you I think it was Chaos.

Well I can't see what it is from my country but I'm assuming it's the same thing.

Post by: ASR on 7 August 2009, 00:23:46
I don't think anyone posted it here, but it's been floating around the internet for a while, so you've very likely seen it. I just watched it again today and felt like sharing it this time.

It's clearly just his stand-up material being reformatted for use in the interview with Conan, just like most comedian guests on talk shows do. It's just GREAT material, made even better by the fact that it's AIRPLANE material, which is a topic generally agreed upon as being beaten to death with no laughs left.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Majikn on 7 August 2009, 01:18:21
Maybe I ought to feel ashamed that I just spent that amount of time looking for a post just because you doubt my recall ability, but you know what? You hurt me. You injured me. And I'm defending my honour. Here it is.

Posted on Facebook from an ol' friend: We live in an amazing, amazing world, and it's wasted on the crappiest generation of spoiled idiots. (http://barefootmeg.multiply.com/video/item/56)

I'm hoping that's the same video because I can't see the other one but I'm damn sure it's the same, given it's an interview with Conan and the title is the same and your quotings of it are the same.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!

Yeah it's good. I could have seen him earlier this summer but... Eh. I've heard his other stuff is bleh.

And a lot of people like him, ASR, not just "comedy nerds".

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ASR on 7 August 2009, 02:20:40
Oh, I definitely didn't mean to make it sound like that. He's big, of course.

And I was supposed to see him in April, but I had to choose between him and Flight of the Conchords... and the Conchords probably aren't touring again, so I had to go with them.

Louis CK's specials are WAY better than that clip. I don't know why I posted that clip (it's been passed around for a while now as we've already established) and not some of his stand-up or something. Just lazy.

EDIT: sorry guys i just have a total boner for louis

A bunch of them weren't even close to being so weird I'd assume they were photoshop, and I knew about some of them already, but a lot of them were pretty cool. I always heard the dog was photoshop.

The wireframe and façade were the most photoshopped looking to me, cool.
But the caterpillar was my favourite, even though it didn't look fake to me at all.

I've seen the Ron Mueck stuff in person at the National Art Gallery a year or two ago, and it was amazing. MUCH creepier in real life too. Fat naked guys look really creepy enough when they aren't giant. You guys should definitely check out some of his stuff, it's incredible.

Title: The interesting stuff thread
Post by: AlexThePenguin on 2 October 2009, 16:43:59
So, today I was talking to someone about sciencey nature stuff, and we started talking about autumn leaves and why, in North America, deciduous trees turn all sorts of reds and oranges, whereas they only turn yellow in Europe. He was saying that the theory for why this is has to do with our mountain ranges.

European ranges run lattitudinally, meaning that when the cold weather comes, the animals are basically stuck in the northern parts.

Contrarily, North American mountain ranges run longitudinally, meaning that the animals can go down to lower grounds as cold weather creeps in.

The theory states that the leaves turn red and orange, Nature's danger colours, to keep animals from eating them.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Mikero on 3 October 2009, 02:56:50
Animals aren't so dumb they need LEAVES to tell them what to do!

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ChaosVortex on 3 October 2009, 06:09:15
Well, there goes that theory.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Edgecrusher on 3 October 2009, 07:43:34
That theory would require there to be some sort of benefit to the tree, or it doesn't make sense. Trees aren't altruistic.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Majikn on 3 October 2009, 21:02:21

This is an extremely interesting animation-type thing... it's kind of graphic at a couple spots (there's a strangely phallic segment) but it's all drawn and no worse than what you'd see on South Park or something like that. The novelty of the animation makes it worth it.

Splashing isn't nice, but you're a huge pussy if you go to the police for being splashed.

And if it's been raining out you're expecting more rain and you're not going to keep your iPod or whatever in a spot where it can be drenched unless you're an idiot.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Mikero on 19 October 2009, 22:01:56
I don't know how iPod's came up but I'm certain the issue is that an adult did this to children with clearly malicious intent, not what the actual act was. Also, it's against the law there. And the kids probably didn't do much of anything. Here's my idea of how this played out;

Kid (soaked, annoyed) enters home.
Parent (fat): "What happened?"
Kid: "I got a splashed by a car and now my douchekitmusthave iPod Touch is wet."
Parent (still fat): "WHAAAAAAT?!"

And then the parent goes and complains to anyone they can until it's a big thing because this is 2009 and everyone is a #####ing cocknozzle with additional sidecar. Or that didn't happen at all, it doesn't matter. The police are perfectly right in this instance, it's just the dickbags who complained that are dickbags.

http://gizmodo.com/5380711/videogioco-is-is-i-dont-know-what-the-hell-this-is

I'll check this out later but I have to comment that "no worse than what you'd see on South Park" doesn't mean anything since South Park is widely regarded as a pile of turd animation-wise by everyone in the universe including it's animators and creators and fans and non-fans and fan's dogs and fan's dogs' fish and everyone else in the universe like I previously said, you see.

I brought up iPods as a random example of anything that might get damaged from you being soaked. I could have mentioned a laptop or something instead. A fair amount of kids these days would have laptops, I'm sure.

I agree that the victims probably weren't the ones that actually went to the police; at least not until they realized they could get attention out of it as victims. I'm pretty sure it was just people who saw the video and reported it.

I agree that the police were right in that they were just doing their job.

Here's the whole article from Ebony about stars in the year 2000

http://books.google.com/books?id=7dgDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA163&lpg=PA163&dq=ebony+potraits+of+the+stars+what+they+may+look+like+in+2000&source=bl&ots=w8VFy8NC5b&sig=bYOfyayAr5h3F5h5nZtRgWaagMw&hl=en&ei=zNzcStqOAo3Q8Qbas623BQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CAoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=&f=false

I like how Emmanuel Lewis is in there. The whole article itself is an interesting read...not the "What will they look like part", but the part dealing with a survey among its readers. Nearly everyone agreed that there would be little to no chance of having a black president or vice president by 2000 (honestly, I thought we'd have a black vice president before a black president) - who would've guessed 8 years later we'd have Barack "C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER" Obama in office?

Not that I care much for McDonald's, but... seriously? Who's complaining about cow eyes even if the rumour WAS true?

I'm certain cow eyes are very edible and they might even be delicious if you took a chance to try them. And I'd certainly be pissed if I found out people were just throwing them away. Think of all the people you could feed with cow eyes! But I imagine they're actually used in pet food anyway.

Eyeballs are considered a delicacy by some (silly) people.

They're also used much for science, especially in the grade school levels.

It seems they were only there to distract from said trype, and in fact, ruin the segment for the Home and Garden people. You'll notice that Brian Gumble was easily distracted by their shenanigans, and everyone stopped caring about devil eggs, or whatever.

None of us knew.

It was a class of about 20 people.

He shook his head, and said, "This is sad. Honestly, I can't believe it." Then he pointed at me and said, "Especially you, you're going to be a history teacher."

It didn't mean anything at the time because I haven't taken any history classes yet, but yeah, after he went over it, I felt pretty stupid.

I especially remember him talking to Peter in one of the Spider-Man movies.
Spider-Man 3 is the only Spidey movie he really says anything in, but I don't know if it was TO Peter. He didn't play Uncle Ben.

He only makes small cameos. For instance in Spider-Man he yelled "Look out!" and pushed a girl out of the way of falling debris when the Green Goblin attacked the parade. In X-Men he sold hotdogs or something. In The Incredible Hulk he died from drinking gamma radiated pop and in X3 he held a garden hose.

Oh, Rosa Parks is that woman who didn't give her seat to a white passenger.

But seriously, why should I care about recent history? The holocaust happened, Rosa Parks happened, so what? Why should I care about them? It has nothing to do with me and my life now and nor will it ever. It's completely irrelevant to me.

I care about now and I care about the future. The most I can make out of History is making a game based off some Historic events. I don't need to know about how all of these people did some crazy stuff to make the USA a more sane place to live (not to mention I don't live in the US anyway), and I don't need to know about all the genocides that the world has taken part in. I don't need to know about anything about History. It won't change who I am and it won't change my life.

My life would be the exact same if I've never heard of the Holocaust. My life would be the exact same if I didn't learn about a lot of things I know about the history of the Earth.

I really can't seem to form the right words to describe my feelings on the past, so I'm probably sounding like a huge douche right now. It all basically boils down to the fact that it's irreverent to me and my life.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ChaosVortex on 16 November 2009, 19:43:44
Yeah, like... Vinch. Seriously.

I can write an essay why history is important, but here's just a small sample derived from a famous quote.

Person A who lived in the year 1500 falls into a hole, and dies of starvation.

Person B who lives in present day LEARNED from the history of Person A, and avoids said hole.

Person C who lives in present day said screw it, falls into said hole, and dies of starvation.

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." ~George Santayana

Here's an entire list of quotes. (http://www.wisdomquotes.com/cat_history.html)

I just recently did a report on the Crash of 1929, and how it's relevant to our daily lives. The issue with the crash was because Government didn't control the economy or the market. After the crash, we've learned from them, respected our failures and successes, so we don't repeat it.

By your logic, you shouldn't care. You shouldn't care what happens to your neighbor or economy, or who runs into power. That's extremely foolish, and I never thought you would say that. Really.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!

You sound like a HUGE douche who hated high school history and made that up as an excuse.

Nope. I never said I hated high school history. Don't think I even mentioned my high school history in that post. In fact, I loved my Canadian History class. I cared enough for it to get marks into the high 80s for that class.

Back then, it WAS relevant to my life. I had to know about it to pass the course, right? So I learned about the Famous Five, a couple important Prime Ministers, WW and WWII and the horrific events that occurred and also how much ass we kicked (specifically in WWII).

But today, does knowing that knowledge help me in life any way? I'm not a History Teacher, nor am I a History Scholar of some sort. I don't need to know about this stuff.

I can write an essay why history is important,

I'm sure you can, and I'm sure you're right. I never said History wasn't important.

By your logic, you shouldn't care. You shouldn't care what happens to your neighbor or economy, or who runs into power. That's extremely foolish, and I never thought you would say that. Really.

No, my logic is that a lot of things in history I don't need to know about because it's not relevant to me or my interests. My interests are today and the future. So of course I care about what happens to my neighbour and the economy, I care about all of those things, because it affects my future. My history, however, is set in stone.

My life would be the exact same if I've never heard of the Holocaust. My life would be the exact same if I didn't learn about a lot of things I know about the history of the Earth.

No. No, it would not. Not even a little bit.

I don't need to know about anything about History. It won't change who I am and it won't change my life.
Really? Because history directly LED to your life and is constantly shaping it. The events of the past in turn created other events that in turn led to your parents getting drunk one night and having wild animal sex and then the next day conceiving you in a morning quickie. And if that's not exactly how it went down, you can't argue with me because you just said you don't care about history.

Right, I admit that first post was really retarded. I'm just saying I don't need to learn these kind of things because I have more important things to do.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: ChaosVortex on 16 November 2009, 20:46:49
That's the thing, if you're involved socially, you need to study socially. That's why it's called Social Studies. You learn why a certain culture acts a certain way or why something happened through history.

Also, history is always changing to an extent, because we're always reformulating it due to recent discovery. Although you're right that if someone dies, you can't undo their death, it's important to understand how and why it occurred. Although it's in the past, the subject will come up over and over again to this very day and in the future. History just provides so many answers about your life and what path you should take. Your economy, for example, has been formulated in a way to avoid times like the 1930s.

You're saying this now, but you might change your mind.

History is boring.

You're doomed to repeat it if you know what it is or not.

And JC, if it's any consolation, I've spent the last few years studying international history for school, and I've learned all sorts of stuff. That said: having gone from uneducated to relatively informed, I don't feel as though my life as really been enriched in any significant way. It's good stuff to know in terms of culture, but it has absolutely zero practical value to the average person.

Well I don't know if Rosa Parks is in Canada's text books...

No, if only because you don't need a text book to know who Rosa Parks was.

I don't care who you are, if you're from North America excluding Mexico (I guess) and you don't know who Rosa Parks was it's YOUR fault and I don't respect that. You don't have to even LIKE history. Like, you might as well just decide to be stupid.

Anyway I really can't remember having a "History" class until grade ten, and that was SPECIFICALLY a Canadian History class (it was awesome though I didn't like it at first).

But I never said History is not important.

That's exactly what you said. You said that knowing history or not knowing history would make absolutely no difference, which is saying it has no significance, i.e. unimportant. Or in your words; Irrelevant. Which, I have to say, sounded incredibly douchey. No offense to you as a person but yeah it would make a difference if you didn't know anything about the holocaust, and holding on the immutable laws of physics that stop anything from being wholly impossible, I have to say it's impossible that your life would be the same if you had zero knowledge of Earth's history.

I think you're a good guy and everything, but I feel I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't mention that that whole post put me in a bad mood and I think it was totally ignorant and actually a bit conceded, albeit unintentionally.

But I'm going to leave it there because I think going further will keep me from my dinner for a hot minute longer and I really don't know what I should say to you about it that wouldn't end in a tl;dr response.

Fair statements, and sure an intimate knowledge of the world's history has no practical value to anyone who isn't that field, but a general level of assumed knowledge in the are is important for anyone who wants to live in, um, society. I don't expect everyone to know every name or date but to actually know nothing, and to aspire to know nothing, is ridiculous and gets you exactly nowhere. But I'm sure you know that, I'm clearly just speaking generally.

No you're fine. I've said stupid stuff before, so forgive and forget.

But one last comment I want to make. Spoiler tagged so we can get back on topic:
History is boring.

You're doomed to repeat it if you know what it is or not.

And JC, if it's any consolation, I've spent the last few years studying international history for school, and I've learned all sorts of stuff. Yeah, that's fair. Mike practically said why you should know History. Sure, there may be some very irrelevant things in history that happened, but there's going to be a scenario where you'll be interacting socially, watching something, doing something, whatever... and knowing the basic background of it might be important. Naturally, you wouldn't go buy a house without knowing how it was built, for example.

Although nobody mentioned it: as for actually LIKING History, I suppose it's just a taste. I love it. It's almost like a big story book or film transcript to me. Others say it's absolute torture and boring.
And that's the most awesome squirrel I've ever seen.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!

If flipped about a horizontal axis.

I was thinking more in terms of rotation by 180°, which would then require a flip about the vertical axis.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Fatso on 21 November 2009, 10:21:48
Rotated 180°, yes. An inversion, though, is a mirroring around the secondary diagonal, so I don't know what you're talking about!

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: Edgecrusher on 21 November 2009, 10:38:04
Inversion doesn't have to be about a specific axis, and doesn't imply anything beyond a reversal.

I realized shortly after posting that "inversed" in the context I used it was redundant, but I assumed what I meant was clear enough, so I left (and will leave) it.

Yeah, I don't watch TV, news, and other media things as I've mentioned before. Similar to statements above, it's either too negative or just absolutely pointless to know about. It's like someone is getting shot, raped, or murdered in some way and the news has to report it.

With that said, I only check a few websites and media articles, and I'm okay with that.

No, I'm being realistic.

And although I'd LIKE to play, I don't anymore. Don't have the time nor the money. I think I'd rather just stick with the DS games at least for now.

I don't know about you, but whenever I hear that kind of stuff about certain games or hobbies, I tend to not really care what that person says about it. I've SEEN respectable adults (both young and old) play Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, Marvel, Duel Masters, Legos, Mega Man, etc.

It's the same kind of crap I hate when people diss you for playing Mega Man because they see you playing Mega Man 2. Your point? They like the game, whether you like it or not.

I also realize games like Halo get a bad reputation but that's somewhat different because they earned it. It's still pretty crappy when people judge a book by it's cover.

That last one is genius.

There was a woman buying old style legos in out area at 100$ for 3 gallons.

Some friends made thousands of dollars off of her.
I have no idea what is wrong with her.

Title: Re: The Interesting Stuff thread!
Post by: preventerWIND on 22 December 2009, 14:46:40
NOTHING IS WRONG WITH HER. EVERYTHING IS AS RIGHT AS RAIN.

Lego were mentioned, so I thought I may as well have put it on the list. Besides, we tested a whole bunch of people and only the people without imagination said Lego was lame. We made them a 0.001% because they're poo.

Pokemon WOULD be less lame than magic, but the constant adding of super lame pokemon like the GOD one kinda tipped the scale.

Can you guys all stop with the term "Legos"? It's just "Lego" or if you want to be a real dick about it; "LEGO". I don't actually care if you say Legos it's just always irked me and I felt like mentioning that you're all wrong as people!

Anyway I've never seen normal adults buy Yu-Gi-Oh cards for themselves and I work at a place that sells them. Since that's the only one of these things I mentioned I don't know how Chaos got on a bunch of jargon that has nothing to do with it. But even though I've never seen proper adults buy it for themselves I certainly don't think such people don't exist.. I'm tired of having to outright say I wasn't being 100% serious.

Gawrd.

I know you guys aren't serious. It just when immature crap happens, such as disliking a person because they like something that is practically harmless, it gets on my nerves.

And Mike, I don't understand how any of the before mentioned is unrelated, given they're all targeted for the kid/teen range. (Teen mainly for Marvel and Magic)

Marvel tends to cater for the 5-50 year olds.

A lot of stuff that was originally targeted at kids (like comic books) have evolved with the kids they were originally intended for. Those kids have grown up and the appeal of comics or Pokemon or (the biggest and most obvious of these examples:) video games have broadened alongside them.

They're not unrelated to each other but I just meant that they are unrelated to the conversation. No one said anything about the GENRE, just the ONE CCG. Whatever, it doesn't matter. I only thought it was a waste getting more off topic talking about Pokemon cards or whatever.

And Marvel doesn't cater to teens. It caters to adults, with like a few titles aimed at young children.

Or you can just ignore that and look at this:

That dude was at MAGFest...that's actually the ballroom where they held the concerts. He was in costume...two of the nights, I think. I know he was there Saturday for Armcannon, and Sunday for The Megas. Not sure if he was there in costume on Friday night for Armadillo Tank - everybody was being wowed by the guy who dressed up as Guile.

The photo makes it look not that impressive, but it was actually a pretty awesome costume. You can't see it in the photo, but he had a Metal Blade (obviously thick cardboard spraypainted) for him to throw around.

Ever hear of Pokéclipse or whatever?

I think it was their answer to Digiclipse, which was the idea that Digimon exist and their beliefs were based on something to do with what happened in the Digimon show with an eclipse and so they believe if they do something when there's an eclipse they'll have Digimon sightings or something.

And then they made Pokéclipse. Or something.

Yes I just bothered to copy and paste those és from the character map.

I swear there was a computer thread somewere but I guess I'll post it here.

So I saw the 2nd movie to the "Rebuild of Evengalion", when ever a lot of stuff happen at the same time the video goes all stupid on me. So here's my question, do I need to upgrade a few parts so the laptop can handle the movie or is the movie file itself? Thanks.

Open task manager, set priority to high on whatever is playing the video. turn off other stuff.

You need a better graphics card, or just a better computer.

I'm more haunted my MewTwo than by the Jigglypuff, personally.

That's not bad.
That makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is why I can't find a job with a computer science degree from one of the best schools for it in my state.
Then again, I have a computer science degree.

This is what happens when you expand the demographic of video games too far.

I wouldn't say this is interesting. This dumb crap has happened before. It's the generic [Stupid person kills/steals for the video games and consoles] news.

At least one of them I heard was cool, where a PS3 owner got defensive and stabbed the thief with a samurai sword.

He slashed them actually. I love that news story.

Well, one was a stab. The other was also sword related, but he ended up murdering the intruders, and thus getting himself in a jam with the police.

Copypasta this into your current tab.

:
javascript:var i,s,ss=['http://kathack.com/js/kh.js','http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.1/jquery.min.js'];for(i=0;i!=ss.length;i++){s=document.createElement('script');s.src=ss[i];document.body.appendChild(s);}void(0);
Hit enter.
Have fun with Katamari.

Apparently it only works with Safari or Chrome at the moment.
Not that I'd have noticed otherwise considering I'm using Chrome.

Nevermind. It works just fine with other browsers.
