Well, it's supposed to release today. It's early right now, 2:00AM here. I want to see what all the hype is about.

Also, it's supposed to set a guiness world record with the most downloads of a program in one day.

What useless record. I use Firefox, but everyone acts like it's some godly super awesome incredible world-changind browser. It's not. It's an OK browser, but it's not really even anything special, so I don't understand people who think it's so good for whatever reason and actually have sig images with ##### like "Take back the internet, get Firefox." That's extremely beyond brain deadosity.

Oh, I'm no Firefox fanatic, though I do know who you are talking about.

I hear it's a big deal though.

Gee, I hope it loads pages .0674 nanoseconds faster than the current Firefox, or this update would be totally not omfgbigdealk worthy.

It does a few new things.
The update from firefox 2.0.0.14 to firefox 3.0.0.0 is stupid anyways, why not make it Firefox2.1.0.0?

Why so many decimals?
It's silly.

I hope it keeps all my bookmarks and addons...

It keeps most things, but I lost a couple skins and useless addons (although strangely enough a certain addon stayed and IMPROVED).

Bookmarks are all there though. I'm using the development version (which I downloaded yesterday, so it should pretty much be the final version).

It supports animated PNG files. They look deliciously beautiful, because you can now have smooth, crisp animations with 8-channel alpha blending without jamming a flash file on the page.

The decimals state how major a modification was. Firefox 2 never went through much change; most of it was topical data. THe jump to 3 was made because the program was re-optimized and re-constructed to provide better performance while using less memory. And it does, too.

Strangely enough, when you click and drag on things, it will show a shadowed version of the item under your cursor while you drag it (very similar to how Vista does this, although I'm using XP right now). There are a few other changes, but I'm not sure what they are.

It's the same old Firefox, it just runs slightly better.

Does it highlight words when it gets double clicked and automatically right click with options including one that says "go to URL"?

If not then I'm sticking with Opera.

On double-click you get a word (tokenized by spaces, tabs, CR, LF, and punctuation).
There's no option in the right click menu to "go to URL", but there is a copy operation and you can just jam it in the bar. But I get the feeling that you're too lazy to do that.

There's more than likely an addon that mimics the Opera operation, because most of the cool stuff for Firefox is addon-based, but it doesn't seem like a necessary thing to me.
Nor does "page zooming".

Page Zooming is a waste.

Heeeeey it's out.
I'm downloading it now, slower than death. I suspect many other people are downloading it too.

It's not even the final version, it's another release candidate.

WHERES THE GODDAMN SCROLL BAR?! WHEEEERE?! *touches screen*

Well, for me it's good, smoother scrolling and a lot of the fonts can be shown now. Like the crossbones in Mike's sig, they used to be big question marks before.

They #####ed up the auto-fill address bar. It now takes up too much space and looks cluttered.

Yeah, and the list isn't quite as long, so it's truncated some of the less recent things I had on there.
But whatever.

It's worth it for APNG to me.

Are you talking about how it shows a list of possibilities in the address bar when you go to type in an address?  Because I actually really like that...because sometimes I can't remember exactly what the address is that I want to type, or there will be multiple pages that show up from the same site, and I don't know which one I want -- but now it shows the titles for the pages, too!  So I really find that a lot easier to use, because then I can look through the titles and pick the one I want, because sometimes I'm actually way off in terms of typing the actual address.

ANYWAY.  I got kind of annoyed yesterday because Mozilla's site was down every time I tried to download Firefox 3.  But then somebody posted a link somewhere to the British English version, so I downloaded that one instead.  I haven't actually noticed any oddities in terms of language though (vs. US English), and it works just fine, so it's cool.  Plus the only one of my add-ons that didn't work anymore (other than my theme) was PicLens...which I can just re-download whenever they update it anyway.  And I'm not all that disappointed about the loss of my old theme colors because I got a new on that's a lot better.  So def. win/win for me so far.

Piclens worked initially for me.
No update needed.
I scoff at your British version.

Wait.  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/scoff?r=75
Which meaning are you talking about not being pretty?  The eating quickly one?  I'd actually never heard of that meaning until I checked the definition!
