I'm looking forward to seeing robot designs with that template, since it's kind of jank and makes one think, even though all I've really seen is a ton of maid designs so far.

Sick.

Maybe we have an internal design contest then submit our best?

"The Robot Master Design Contest for Mega Man: Dual Override is now open!
We're looking for designs of a Robot Master who has a right arm with immense suction powers!
Will your design be the one to face Mega Man in the game!?
Draw, Mega Man fans, for everlasting peace!"

https://www.capcom-games.com/megaman/do/en-us/contest/

Immense suction powers.

I like a Robot Master with a suction engine that fills a giant air bladder on their back which uses the air to play the bagpipes. The bag will deflate while shooting homing musical note attacks, or shockwaves. MegaMan can be sucked into the bagpipe bladder and temporarily pop it when escaping. The weakness would either pop the bag with every hit or gum up the sucker.

Call it PipeMan, or BagMan. Or ScotsMan.

The Protomen: Act 3, and now this?! Oh wow!

I'm glad they figured out some sort of soulless but economical way to make more Mega Mans that won't just get cancelled but I... you know what I'll just cool it. It doesn't matter. If this game comes out and it's fun and playable, then well, great. Maybe we can have the New Super Mario Bros. era of Mega Man for a bit and then hope against all probability that someone cool eventually decides to take over the franchise and do something interesting.

I still haven't mustered the energy to play MM11 which I already bought and paid for. Although to be fair, I really should. It's just these days it's all about indies and the occasional AAA hit. Always excited for future indie MM-esque games though.

I'm looking forward to seeing robot designs with that template, since it's kind of jank and makes one think, even though all I've really seen is a ton of maid designs so far.
I've been waiting for the obligatory "you say that like it's a bad thing" in response to this, and now I have to be the one to say it. Major letdown.

They just revealed the finalists of the Robot Master Contest.  I really want Cactus Man or Valve Man.  They look perfect.

Yeah, Capcom was really impressed with Cactus Man having different modes of attack based on what he sucked up, and Valve Man just looks fantastic overall. It's a good set of finalists considering they had like what, 10,000 entries submitted?

At this point they're creating RM's solely to make fun of the franchise.

After watching the trailer + gameplay some observations.

1:  You can finally go through boss doors in the air!  Game of the year all years!
2:  A lot of the custom chips seem to pull from he X series like the X4 hover or dash.  Lore implications can say that LIght was testing these chips on Mega Man before ultimately applying them to X
3:  The Astro Man boss fight is a 1:1 boss + battle.  He has all of his attacks plus some extra new ones.  Additionally the theme for old robot master bosses seems to be a medley of previous boss battle music (mm1, mm2, mm3, mm4, mm5, mm7, mm9) which I thought was a nice touch.
4:  The game seems to be longer giving each robot master 3 stages, like a mini wily castle.  This time it is not one long stage but split up in 3.  Not sure if I like this because they can make the stages shorter, but if they are all too short it won't be good.
5:  The music is MILES better than 11's.  Don't get the wrong idea.  the music in 11 is good, but the instrument choices left a lot to be desired.

Astro Man needs his MM8 voice clips.  He's just not right without them.

I'm glad they are giving Proto Man his own unique moveset making him akin to Zero.

I'm getting a lot of Mega Man 8 vibes from this game with there being multiple sections for levels, limited number of bolts in the game, plus Astro Man returning.  The Tellys are models of the Mega Man 8 Tellys that have the pink triangle.

Proto is just Zero by this point, complete with saber buster slashes and bosses giving unique moves as unlocked as shown by the TGS showcase earlier today. It's neat to be honest.

Some more updates based on a recent interview.

Like X4, 9, and 10.  You can only choose one character to playas during an entire Playthrough.

Proto Man is basically more or less Zero in how he plays.  He has special button inputs like Zero (X4-X6).  He has a basic set, which gets expanded upon after defeating robot masters

The score system is only tied to a few achievements (if the leak is to be believed and I won't be spoiling that here, if you want to know everything you can find it yourself) and is nothing more than just bragging rights.

While the stage layout is mostly the same for both characters, the enemies will be different between Mega Man & Proto Man so the game experience will be different between the two.

The staff consists of veteran Mega Man staff and younger developers.  One of the younger developer is a huge Mega Man fan and is considered a "Mega Man Professor" who knows all of the lore of Mega Man.

Speaking of which, they are integrating Proto Man's unstable core as part of his gameplay.  Proto Man can overheat if you use shield actions too much, but there is a button that allows you to vent energy.

Proto Man's Override mode will be a call back to Break Man from Mega Man 3, mask and all

Like Mega Man & Bass, there are chips that only Mega Man can use and chips that only Proto Man can use.

There will be a playable demo somewhere down the line.

Edit:  Rather then continue to post, I'll update this post with additional info.

Jet Man was revealed as the newest robot master.  He looks #####ing awesome and is probably one of my favorites next to Tundra Man, PHaroah Man, Dive Man, Tengu Man.  He transforms into a jet.

Additionally it seems you can use the weapons from legacy robot masters via custom chips.  Mega Man has access to Astro Crush.

I am liking everything I see so far.  My only conern is that it is possible Astero Man might be the ONLY robot master returning.  I wouldn't put it past capcom to pull a boneheaded move like that, but considering the boss theme is a medley of past boss battle music, I remain hopeful.

I'll believe X9 when I see it but I'm happy you're happy. Will definitely buy this too.

As for the reason Astro Man is returning... was that mentioned in the leak? I don't really need to know why but I'm mildly curious.

The leak in question reveals the names of all of the robot masters (including the contest winner).  Again, if you want to find out for yourself you can look for it.  I'm not going to post it here as to not spoil anyone.

One of the leaks directly references Astro Man as an achievement.  No other returning robot masters are leaked through the achievements.  However, it also only shows one mini boss has an achievement which requests you to reflect a Metall back at it. (It's the flying metall dispenser enemy in the construction site stage which is shown in the proto man trailer), so it is possible that only 1 miniboss will have an achievement and 1 returning robot master has an achievement, that being Astro Man R.  And anyways Astro Man was already shown in gameplay trailers.

The boss theme when fighting Astro Man has leitmotifs from the boss themes from Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9.  So there is no way we are just getting Astro Man as the only returning robot master.

Well it seems my fears of there being only 1 robot master have been alleviated.  According to an interview area 2 of each stage will ALWAYS have a returning boss, so at the very least we're getting 8 returning robot masters.  It was also mentioned that the favorite robot masters among the producer & director were Napalm Man, Top Man, and Wood Man, but this has no correlation on who the returning robot masters will be.

I would like the following:  Guts Man, Air Man, Shadow Man, Dive Man, Pharoah Man, Napalm Man, Gyro Man, Knight Man, Tomahawk Man, Junk Man, Shade Man, Tengu Man, Grenade Man, Tornado Man, Splash Woman, Blade Man, Strike Man, Tundra Man, Fuse Man

Well, with Astro Man being in that only leaves 7 slots.  Not sure who I'd like to see.  Pharaoh Man for the sand stage would be dope though.  I'd kind of like to see Spark Man due to his cool design in 3D.

I'd be interested in seeing a boss like Centuar Man return since I think MM6 was the last time we had one of those time freeze / screen nuke RM abilities, since the more detailed the games became, the flashier moves moved away from simplicity like that for weapon design. It'd also be neat to see how they animate him due to the unique design and all.

I'm curious how the legacy robot master weapons will work.  It could be like how the buster parts from Mega Man 8 work, where your standard shot becomes either a spread shot or laser, but tied to a chip.

I mean like an instant screen nuke like Gravity Hold / Centaur Flash, since Astro Man's ability had the big animation to show off the power of the PS1 going on.

As far as the boss weapons go, they said we can equip one at a time as a chip in an interview and then it grants it like a normal special weapon. Probably done so the old boss weapons aren't overshadowing the newer ones and could lead to cheese like Metal Man returning, though Air Man has that meme status as they just reused him for a McDonalds commercial not long ago.

Tank Man Revealed.  LMAO he's a giant storage tank.

Also his stage theme seems to low-key sound like Mega Man 10 Challenge mode.

That small clip of his fight shows Rock doing like a backflip or something after getting knocked down to the ground, so it's great to see Capcom really upping the animation budget after all these years. Gives me some Mario Wonder vibes with how hard they're trying this go around.
