Like, at private schools (or in my case, military schools), you get demerits for doing something bad like breaking a rule.

BUT YOU CAN ALSO GET MERITS.

Not in mine.

But a lot of forums use some karma system which has nothing to do with karma and everything to do with naming demerit and merit points something "cooler" sounding. I don't actually see a point though, other than a way of saying "I don't like what you just posted" without actually taking the time to DO that.

I like the idea of demerits more than I like the idea of merits.
