Being a Maverick means you play for a professional basketball team in Dallas, Texas.

Doesn't maverick just mean (simply put) that you're a reploid who's been infected with the maverick virus?

(And the Celtics lost to the Utah Jazz in a movie once, so there!)

It basically means to be a rebel. Reploids were intended to work for humans and/or live in peace with them. Mavericks do the opposite, and they can do it by their own choice. Reploids have the ability to choose to obey or disobey humans. Being a maverick isn't necessarily the cause of the Maverick virus.

My theory is that the definition STARTED as "A Reploid infected with the Maverick Virus", but mutated, possibly at the government level, to include "Any Reploid who opposes the current state of things."

That's what I was getting the impression of lately. I first thought it was just "Reploid infection" or "reploids killing humans" but now maybe it's more of 'reploid not obeying humans'.

The Maverick virus is probably just an assumption made by androids who think too logically. They probably assume any android that disobeys programming has gone wrong.

Maverick was originally used to describe Reploids who went berserk due to technical issues.  However, as the full scope of giving Reploids free will became aparent (what kind of idiots didn't see that comming?) it was more widely applied to Reploids who chose to cause harm to others.  As reploid technology evolved, mechanical failure became far more rare and the term is generally the Reploid equilivant of "criminal" now.

Best answer yet- that makes more sense.

It gets confusing/frustrating for me because I played about one half in Japanese and the other in English and the translations blur and sometimes I can't remember which language the translation in my mind belong. Fortunately I'm playing through all the games in their English translations and things are becoming more clear. Some might think the translations are equivalent- however there are slight differences through implications and language that were lost in translation.  :(

I think we all did at one point- I did. Now I can't touch a game without knowing background information. I think I'm the only one in my family and friends who actually -reads- through the game booklet before playing.

I tend to read it first.
I hate looking in the booklet after like a week and finding that there were like 5 things I didn't even know about.

It helped to know you could pop the Wii-mote to make the Morph Ball jump in Metroid Prime 3, which was never explained in-game, only in the manual.

Prime bored the crap out of me, so I don't see how it was any good personally.

Oh well. NICE GRAPHICS, I guess.

I love all Metroid games. Don't care if it's 2D or 3D, as long as I get to run around and blow up Space Pirates and Metroids. Besides, didn't Nintendo make the Prime series? If so, then they definitely are Metroid games, whether you whine about it or not.

Nintendo farmed out Prime.  It's not an in house game.  The fact they made it a FPS is proof enough of that.

Your sig should say "Warning: I'm kind of annoying"
Try knowing what sarcasm is intended for before you use it.

Anyway we were talking about Prime THREE, which is probably the best of the three but I wouldn't know. I liked it. It was the only Metroid game I played through, and I liked it.

As for "What it Truly is to be a Maverick," I imagine it involves being a robot and attempting violent attacks on the establishment.

In my mind, Metroid Prime games are absolutely NOTHING like the old 2D Metroid games and should never be compared, but it doesn't mean they aren't good games in their own right.

The problem arises when idiots can't stop #####ting out their ass that Prime IS JUST LIKE the 2D games.  And believe you me, there is no short supply of said fools.

I don't see how anyone can say they're anything like the old ones, it's not even a debate.

There's some exploring, yes, and it's open world, yes, but Prime is a freaking FPS. Entirely entirely entirely different idea than a platformer. Entirely.

I even have some friends that say that Prime is better than the 2D platformers. I reply to this with a swift swing of my palm unto their face. It annoys me that theres so many FPS fans out there that it's consuming all sorts of games, Metroid is one of those victims.

I mean, FPS is a fun genre, but.. COME ON...

I tried prime, I didn't like it mostly because I don't like FPSes. To those who do, it might be good, but it will never be better than 2d metroid games. Ever.
