I'm planning on selling my Regular DS to a friend for 30$ since he really wanted a ds for awhile. I'm thinking of buying a DS Lite since I really wanted one for awhile but I've seen A LOT of messages on the internet of people saying the hinge breaks easily.

What are your guys' thoughts on this? Anyone have a DS Lite hinge cracking? I've had my Regular DS for about two years and abused the hinge like no other but I've gotten no signs of damage at all on it.

I traded in my old phat DS for the Crimson/Black Lite back when that color first came out.

It just felt like it was time to upgrade.

And I've had absolutely no problems with it.

There's only been one problem with my old DS Lite, and that was after I traded it to a friend.

Occasionally, the top screen may fuzz or distort if you close the DS while the game runs or run it directly in sunlight. It's annoying to my friend and he can't see what's happening on the top screen anymore.

Of course, I only saw it on that DS. Other cons include difficulty playing a game in daylight and smaller buttons. Everything else is basically gold, and it makes the games much more colorful than the old version.

If I'm in broad daylight I'm certainly not playing a DS.

I know some kids who brought their DS's to DisneyLand during a band trip and actually sat on a bench and played them there.

I like my old DS. I can actually hold the thing properly.

You know you can turn the back lighting off to play in daylight, right?
Right?

Boktai is better played in a GBA anyway though

I kill my DS on a daily basis. But hinges are no problems.

I find it weird when people break gaming stuff. I just do, because I don't.

I want a DS Lite, but my regular DS works just fine and there's no point wasting my money like that.

Yeah, I never would've done it if my parents hadn't offered it as a present for something, I forgot what now.

I've had black and red DS Lite for two years and it's working fine. But something that always bothers me is that the screws on the back look rusty. Either that or it's just my eyes.

And playing Boktai on a DS Lite is gimmicky.

Once I threw a tantrum. Not only that, my Pokemon Silver too. Now I can't save. And I had all the Pokemon on that darned game.

That's because only GBA games work on DS. Pokemon Silver is GBC.

I have a GBA SP. I used to play Pokemon Silver on my GBA.  My throwing a tantrum has nothing to do with me not being able to play PS on my DS. And I'm not stupid, I know GBC games aren't compatible with DS.

Then say things better, because that's the impression you gave. You didn't even mention playing your Pokemon on GBA, so it looks like you were talking about playing it on DS.

Even then, I don't see why you'd care anymore since you already had all the Pokemon in the game meaning you'd completely finished it anyway.

That's like finishing a book you really enjoyed and throwing it away. What if I wanna play it again?

My Lite that was from the launch batch is basically shot due to the hinges cracking on it...

Left hinge had a crack and later had the plastic break off it a year or so ago, but it was a nice smooth break, so it doesn't actually bother the system at all, so that was all right. Just a week or so ago, though, my right side suddenly cracked while I was playing Star Force 2, and that one is a good chunk bigger than the other side, and now my top screen just swings limp whenever I hold it, and really kills the experience on gaming. Like... I'll lay it down on a table or something to use it as an alarm, so I can watch the time as I'm doing something, and unless I have it propped against something, the screen will just fall backwards unless it's basically at a 90 degree angle, or else if it's leaning too far inward, the screen will just flop down and close.

Another mehful thing about my situation is that on the right side, after the plastic cracked off and all, it looks elevated by a cm or two more than the other side, so I'm probably going to end up buying a new unit soon enough, before I'm playing a game and the whole screen just pops off on me ><;

I'm pretty familiar with the whole cracked hinge thing, as I've had about 4 returned to me for this reason.

Interestingly enough, it seems to be just as common between the original and lite versions.

Be careful and cross your fingers.

Right?

That's not what I mean. There's a difference with screens between the old version and the Lite. On the old version, when outside, you can actually see what the heck you're doing. With the Lite, you're back to the old "find a right angle of light and hold that position" deal that you used to do on your old Gameboys. I don't know what it is, but regardless of whether the light is on or off, you'd have an easier time playing at night or inside. It's only sunlight that I had trouble with, I believe.

I don't find it all THAT easy to really see the going-ons in the screen in sunlight on a regular DS...

Well it's much easier anyway. I can actually play a game well outside, say if you're alone and waiting for a bus to arrive.

Screen glare is pretty bad for the regular DS. (as with the Gameboys). Dunno how Lite fares in sunlight.

My first DS Lite's hinge broke, but my second one is going strong. Hopefully the new one I bought will also be good.

My standard DS doesn't have any glare problems in the sun. I clean the screen a lot with microfiber, but eh.

I also haven't touched it since Castlevania DOS

I remember one time, this kid's phone was completely bricked so I asked him if I could destroy it, jokingly.

And he said yes.

The following 10 minutes were among the greatest of my life.

There was more to it than just destroying the phone! I was doing things like pretending to talk on it, getting angry, and then chucking it across the room in a fit of rage. When it was broken enough, we started playing "tennis" with it using random flat objects as rackets, and we played hackey sack with it, and tried crushing it with an assortment of devices.

Basically, it was fun.

Exaggeration on "among the greatest [10 minutes] of my life," but still fun.
