Yea, so I know that it's coming out here really soon, but has anyone heard about the race tracks and that stuff? Like, will it have the battle modes and wifi etc. I'd love to see some classic tracks back as well as some of the DS version tracks. I really hope that they did this title justice.

It's already out here, so I can tell you that it's amazing and you won't be disappointed.

It's got half-and-half old and new tracks, just like the DS and GBA games.

It's got Battle, even though offline it's not that good, and the Wifi works flawlessly...

You start off with 5000 points when you play online, and you gain and lose points depending on how well you play/place.

The only problem with it is the total lack of originality:  It's Mario Kart... AGAIN.

But that's no bad thing... just no new thing.

I probably won't get it. I like Mario Kart but I haven't liked one enough to buy since Super Mario Kart.

I hope not. I've found the motion detection to be somewhat clunky at times, and with a reflex-oriented racing game like Mario Kart that could be a serious drawback.

Well, you should be more optimistic and hope that they perfected it for Mario Kart!

I'm excited about this game. Brawl is the first game I've bought since forever, and this is the next game on my agenda.

Yeah, I heard the online beats the crap out of Brawl.

In fact, NOVA joined my room tonight. STILL LAGGING LIKE HELL ON EARTH.

I thought, "Wow. None of this bull##### in Mario Kart for sure."

Abe, do you steer with the Wii Remote?

Yes, you do. I don't know if there are alternative controls, especially for the motorcycles, but the game does come with one steering wheel.

I hope not. I've found the motion detection to be somewhat clunky at times, and with a reflex-oriented racing game like Mario Kart that could be a serious drawback.

We're not talking about sudden motions that sometimes don't translate correctly, though. We're talking about steering with two hands. Tilting the Wii Remote left and right to steer has ALWAYS translated perfectly for me, except when you try to rotate the thing past 90 degrees. Maybe there's a way to fix that, or maybe it won't matter because that'll be the maximum you can turn anyway. I don't know for sure but it's probably that.

Anyway, I am going to get this game. Naturally.

You should be able to turn the wheel more than 90 degrees. You do that all the time in a real car.

Motorcycles?

Yes, motorcycles. They're faster but they can't turn as well/get a full drift boost or something. It probably feels more realistic if you don't use the Wii Wheel for those, though.

I'll probably stick with karts for a while, personally.

And yes I know how much you need to turn the wheel in a real car, but the Wii Wheel isn't held in place like the steering wheel of a car either. I don't think it needs to be THAT realistic, anyway. It's a step forward, at least.

I'm 100% more interested now that there's motorcycles. Still, I'll try it and probably not buy it. A lot of people I know will get it either way.

I'm pretty sure you can play it much like Brawl, with the Wii Remote, the GC controler or the Classic Controler.

And the fact it IS Mario Kart is beyone good.  If you want something different for #####s sake, go play Grand Turismo.

You guys have Wario to thank for the motorcycles. I read somewhere that it was because they wanted to include his bike that they broadened it to everyone getting cycles.

I have this preordered.  Looking forward to it.  Though one of my room mates who playes it a lot is in Canada for 6 months, the other is essentially moved out and the last one is at his girl friends most of the time...

So you're saying you have the upper hand on all your friends! Use the time to learn how this game plays different and then crrrrrrrush them when they play.

Hate the squid if only because it comes up too often.  Hate the POW block as it just nerfs everything and again, happens way too much.  The rest is pretty ace.  I'm most pleased the circling shells are back and the Mega Mushroom and Bullet are excellent additions.

The game is just as rage inducing as the others if you play it for any more than 20 or 30 minutes, as the AI is just as cheap as it's always been.  Getting knocked from 1st to 12th in a succession of instant ass raping item #####s is still all too common.

Still, overall a fun game.

Some vehicles don't seem to recover as easily from getting hit by your basic projectiles, I'm noticing. Like, on the sugarscoot when Luigi gets hit by a red shell, he takes an extra moment to flail his arms around and that gives him a chance to get hit again easily. And then all the uber 12th place weapons fall on me at that exact moment and I still somehow end up in 1st or maybe second unless it happens near the end.

I don't really care so much about the squid, but the POW block is annoying. I thought maybe that if you just pressed the drift button to jump at the right moment, you'd be able to dodge it, but you ACTUALLY have to go up a jump to avoid it. That seems lame.

I especially love how you throw items now, though.

I think I convinced myself that I had survived the POW block by hopping once or twice, but I might have been wishful thinking.

I don't think hopping works for POW's, but you can dodge a Spiney Shell with a Dash Mushroom.

I just figured I'd start holding it down after after the 2 started to fade like on the DS, and if not, I'd look it up, and it worked the first time. I think you get an even better boost if you do it at just the right moment but I haven't figured that part out yet.

I don't know how to do it on other games like F-Zero (if there's any start boost), but after reading the MK DS manual years back, I always press the gas on the 2.
