Hi everyone,
when I was looking for the European Mega Man 2 Box Art,
I only found this...

Now, I'm not sure if you knew this, but there was a different one as well.
This one...

Actually, they really put effort into this one... at least some effort.
Anyway, the scan is from my own game cartridge, which I got from a
yard sale for only 2 Euros (about  $2.81 )... sadly without the box but
with a manual.

The bottom one is the non-UK European art, as far as I know, and yeah, it's vastly superior.

The top one is hilariously bad, as always, and the bottom one is actually pretty cool looking, save for the one leg.
Wily looks incredible save for how his ear sticks out.

Seriously, I always wondered why Capcom changed the
box and cartridge art for the first two parts for the western
gaming world. My only thought on that is that Capcom
might thought the people from the USA and Europe would
not like their childlike Anime (Manga) style since we knew
merely realistic comics from Marvel and DC.

Just a question, what's with the line breaks all the time?

Otherwise welcome to MMM if I haven't said it before.

The anatomy in said ear is kind of wonked too.

I think that's why it sticks out so much.

Pretty much. It was the thing to do back in the day. Anything that looked "animeish" would've looked foreign and strange. However, they realized that their character wasn't a 40-year old man. They began to shift him into an image of the Mega Man we know today, starting with Mega Man 3.

I think the Mega Man 2 box art came out nicely done, nonetheless. At least, for the US anyway.

Anime style wasn't popular with the West of the 80s gaming audience according to The Man.

According to my knowledge, it was just foreign and ignored because... well, they thought people would hate it.

Not only did the anime art style have a charm on the contrary, but playing the games didn't truly feel like the box art's "Mega Man". Everytime I played Mega Man, it felt like I was playing as some kid, not a man. For the US, if he wasn't a fully grown man, then he was some cartoony robot with a built body that implied he was a man. By the time Mega Man 8 was released, I was glad they finally revealed his true look.

This is just from the top of my head though. I'm not researching this.

Megaman X is a man (albeit a whiny one).

Yeah, funny how they got that right the first time and THEN screwed it up.

(See Mega Man X4)

Funny that for a while later on in the West any asstastic j-rpg with anime on the cover sold like Islamic virgins.

... Too far with that simile? Yeah, OK. What about "disappeared from shelves like kids disappear in Uganda"? Yeah, no. Stick to Western pop culture. Got it.

My mind has officially been blown away with that.... Did anyone else think Dr. Wily was Nosferatu?
