Post by: Jakey on 5 December 2007, 02:36:51
We have every kind of "Matricians: Show" thread, as well as a sort of blog thread.

Time for one about bread.

This is banana bread. It is my favorite kind of bread, and therefore it is the best bread ever.

It combines delicious bread with delicious bananas, which is really kinda clever in my opinion. Sometimes some people put nuts in their banana nut bread.
I don't really mind the nuts so much but I think the people should be shot.
With rabid weasels.
On fire.

I'm not so sure if the banana bread in the picture is plain banana or banana nut, but it does look pretty good and I want some.

Too bad there isn't any.

At Great Harvest, they make two breads that I adore.

The first is a basil/pesto/Parmesan bread. It's heavenly, and wonderful for breakfast.

The second is a "Kids" bread that's made using applesauce, and really soft-yet-firm, and nice when toasted.

Fat and weak, what a disgrace.
Guess the champ got too lazy.
Ain't gonna fly now, he's just takin' up space.
Sold his gloves, threw his eggs down the drain.

But he’s no bum, he works down the street
He bought the neighborhood deli.
Back on his feet, now he's choppin' up meat.
Come inside, maybe you'll hear him say,

Try the rye or the kaiser,
They're our special tonight.
If you want, you can have an appetizer
You might like our salami and the liver’s alright
And they'd really go well with the rye or the kaiser

Never eats while on the job,
He heard it’s good to stay hungry
But he makes a pretty mean shish kebab
Have a taste, they were made fresh today

Try the rye or the kaiser
Or the wheat or the white
Maybe I can suggest an appetizer
Stay away from the tuna, it smells funny tonight
But you just can’t go wrong with the rye or the kaiser

So today, his deli comes first
Still he dreams of his past days of glory
Goes in the back and beats up on the liverwurst
All the while you can still hear him say,

It’s the rye or the kaiser
It’s the thrill of one bite
Let me please be your catering advisor.
If you want substitutions,
I won't put up a fight.
You can have your roast beef on the rye or the kaiser.

The rye or the kaiser…..

Diet Dr. Pepper isn't so foul.
Then again, Dr. Pepper is so awesome that even the diet incarnation can't be bad.

Certain types of processed white flour are bad for you, but junk like pasta flour (semolina), whole wheat... all good.

Which is fine by me, since I think white breads taste foul, especially the sliced loaf kind that come in packages next to the good bread.

WHOLE GRAIN FOR LIFE.

Winning "worlds best fruicake" is like being the world's tallest midget.

But the proper term would be "Little Person" or "Dwarf(which I never understood why 'dwarf' is less offensive than midget)."

Title: Re: The Bread Thread
Post by: Orange Devil on 9 December 2007, 02:01:13

I'm Jewish, I know Jewish food. I hate most of it.

Gefulte fish is yucky.
Matzah tastes like nothing.
Matzah ball soup is actually pretty decent, but there are much better offerings.
Latkes are bland potatoe pancakes.
...and, well, hamantashen are actually pretty good, I'll take back my earlier statement.

Title: Re: The Bread Thread
Post by: Orange Devil on 11 December 2007, 04:32:31
Does monkey bread count? I don't think it does. If it does then cinna-bons count as bread. Those are pretty much cake.

Title: Re: The Bread Thread
Post by: Chron on 11 December 2007, 04:48:12
Are you stupid?
Of course monkey bread and cinnamon rolls count.
They're closer to bread than cake anyway, even though cake is bread.

Title: Re: The Bread Thread
Post by: Orange Devil on 11 December 2007, 04:49:10
Except they are almost ALL sugar, like cake. I don't even think that they have similar ingredients to bread.

Also, CAKE IS NOT BREAD.

Title: Re: The Bread Thread
Post by: ASR on 11 December 2007, 04:49:44
That monkey bread is the same as Cinnamon Melts from McDonalds which I enjoy lots.

Title: Re: The Bread Thread
Post by: Chron on 11 December 2007, 04:50:17
BREAD:

EGGS
MILK
FLOUR

CAKE:

EGGS
MILK
FLOUR
SUGAR

Cake is therefore a subset of the set bread.

Howcome toast is the only food that is created by re-cooking another food?

You can't re-bake a cake into something better, or fry a scrambled egg, or anything like that...!

I LOVE TOAST.

Mashed potatos into potato pancakes.

Howcome toast is the only food that is created by re-cooking another food?

Fried rice is made with leftover cooked rice.

Leftover surprise.

There are a number of ways of re-cooking leftover food, which definitely counts as cooking cooked food.

Mmm, when I to motorcycle rallies with my dad, breakfast the next day is always the leftover meat from the previous night mixed with beans in a pot.
And anything else.
So many different kinds of slop.

Fried rice is made with leftover cooked rice.

Or new rice... Like with toast, you have RE-cook the bread. You don't HAVE to recook rice to chicken fry it, really. 'Cause it's like two steps in the same meal. Yes, you technically cook it, and then fry it, but it's a little different than baking a loaf of bread and then later toasting a slice of it.

Same kind of thing for chili. You technically cook the meat, and then put it in the chili and cook THAT, but it's not really the same as cooking the same ingredient twice.

Since bread is the ENTIRE meal in toast, it's interesting that it's actually cooked twice. Chili, chicken fried rice, meat sauce (for pasta), and the like are more just taking ingredients and putting them together. Like adding chicken to soup, or something.

See?  Mike gets it.  Same with potato pancakes, whatever the hell they're supposed to be.

And making anything with "leftover rice" is how to get food poisoning.

Good ones require are little extra liquid and onions, though.

Toast is decent stuff, but I won't eat it without jam or something on it.
Unless it's beer bread toast.

Actually, making anything with beer bread is awesome. I hate beer, but it makes a nice bread.
And bread pudding.
And awesome French toast.

It depends on what kind of wheat bread.

This reminds me of Peep Show when Mark has a brown piece of toast and a white piece and thinks;

'Brown for first course, white for pudding, brown's savoury, white's the treat.
...Of course I'm the one whose laughing as I actually love brown toast.'

YES WHEAT BREAD.

We have this place called "Big G's" a few miles from where I live.
They have massive sandwiches.
The following are pictures of a quarter and a half of one of their sandwiches.
The sandwich is Ham, American Cheese, Pastrami, Pepperoni, Bacon, pickle, mustard, tomato and onion. On wheat bread.

yeah.

I'm very picky about how I can eat bacon.

By itself? Yes. With eggs? Yes. With a salad? Yes. Baked potato? Yes. BLT? Hells yes.

With something else that's already greasy (like cheese or a cheeseburger or a hamburger)? No.

I just can't handle the grease levels.
