Hood is where it's at for Egg Nog, and they have the best whole milk even though it sucks compared to organic. It's not going to be some #####ty animu faces and what have you any more! It's still in the working process but I want to develop an art style thats completely custom. Which means I have to take a look at real life structures and #####. It won't take much time, I find this new art style fun to use and learn.
I'll be making something special for MMM. Soon enough. It isn't the group shot for ASR's special surprise either, I haven't even touched that for weeks. ; ) But for now heres some samples, the most perfect head. I might change the eyes. Best way to come up with your own style is to draw as realistically as possible, and then keep making it simpler until you have something iconic. Yeah, thanks guys. I really should work on the eyes, I've tried different styles but I just can't seem to get a simple yet good shape for them. I think in the WIND face it has to do with the size of the eyes as well, but thats also because my characters face is always un proportioned as #####, if you haven't noticed, I have no nose. I think I'm going to take a bit of ASR's advice and watch some Dex's lab and Johnny Bravo to get some ideas (and because I haven't watched Dex's lab in AGES!) And so far I've drawn some of JC, a Nova that needs work, and a Mikero who's head is perfect but the body needs work. Since it looks a lot like Nova's body. Yeah, also taking a look at some Western comics would be a good idea. See how they turn facial features into icons... ... you might try drawing more detail in the eyes, or at least closing them all around with lines. I started out drawing anime-style-ish. I was young, though, and Pokemon and DBZ were both hip, so it was acceptable. But still. I eventually made a conscious effort to switch out of that artistic pit and range myself. The biggest step for me? Drawing noses. A lot of my cartoons still don't have noses. In fact, Alan Simple, my own little green spaceman, doesn't have a nose. But other characters in his same little world do, and as cheesy as it sounds, starting to draw the nose is a big mental step in a transition from an anime-style to a more Western-style. Noses are more than tiny deformed triangle freckles, you know. And yeah, I'm not saying you don't draw noses, I mean, that JC clearly has one. But you get the picture. It's kind of weird. I used to love anime/manga style artwork and such, but all of a sudden I grew out of it and I started to really prefer a more Western style of cartooning. I never really did anything realistic, and more recently I have been dabbling in that category, too. Most recently with those sharpie drawings. I've realized that it helps with cartooning, too. When you draw very realistically, I mean. Because you realize that after doing that for a while, and then going back to outlandish cartoons, your cartoons look more grounded and realistic without looking any less outlandish. Packages sound stupid. A lot of great fonts are band or TV show or whatever fonts, you can search it all anyway.

[spoiler] ----- A vector trace is a process by which a raster (or raw) image is converted into a series of colored polygons via mathematical means. In some cases, the trace is done by hand, but it can be efficiently automatized given a structured algorithm. Usually this algorithm is in the form of: 1. Find areas of like color. 2. Bound areas in polygons formed by vectors (line segments, basically... hence the name). 3. Set the polygon's color to the "mean" color for that area. 4. Repeat until all areas in the image are bound by polygons. A threshold value is usually set to determine how great a difference in hue/contrast/intensity should trigger different areas. Conversion to the vector formula can sometimes result in smaller sizes, but in the case of extremely complex shapes the process winds up taking a substantial amount of memory to store (although usually not as bad as a raw bitmap would be). -----[/spoiler] I'm not sure exactly what Wind did here in terms of technique, but he did it well. Where raster graphics (your jpegs, bitmaps, and the rest) are based on pixels and degrade when zoomed, vector graphics never lose quality when scaled (like in Flash). So, when you save a vector image file it stores the data as a formula, allowing for the best quality possible at any time given the screen resolution and such (therefore, the only quality limitation is the output/monitor/printer/yougetit itself, and not the image). Vector graphics are better than raster graphics in a LOT of ways, but not all. Don't ask me when to use raster and when to use vector because I really don't know how to balance them the most efficiently, though vector tends to print ridiculously sharper. I never work in vector for art because it takes me longer because I have less practice with it, but really I should since the process for me is almost exactly the same as what I do now but with different tools. What you guys failed to understand on the last page and probably on this one, is that green is for plants. Plants. SOMETIMES the "Earth" power in whatever entails growing and manipulating plants, and sometimes it doesn't. I'm pretty sure JC's doesn't, and only works for like rocks and dirt and stuff. Rocks and dirt and stuff kind of "Earth" powers are never represented sanely by green. They are brown or like a slate. There isn't really a green Preventer, really, unless there's someone which plant powers (and being a plant doesn't count, Snare) that we didn't know about. Wind is like yellow or orange or some kind of light teal. In Captain Planet however, Kwame (Earth) had an affinity for plant life, and his ring was green. Gi (Water) had blue. Wheeler (Fire) had red. Ma-Ti (Heart) had like orange or brown or some stupid thing and LINKA (WIND) had purple or a darker blue for some reason. Dark green doesn't suit wind, I agree, a darker orange/yellow for earth also, to represent the ground and sand and #####. Purple has no business in the Preventers. Sano can be purple. So I guess my point is that Wind has been using the exact colors I would have, and so I never thought twice about his choices. I do anatomy studies all the time and her arm is not in a natural pose. Have you even tried to do it yourself?
Her elbow is at a 3/4 view at the same time as her hand is at 3/4, which makes it looks like her radius and ulna are attached oppositelyIknowthat'snotaword unless she's double jointed. Not to mention that she seems to be putting weight on it which is entirely different than doing it in the air with a lifted arm. This is where I try the pose out myself. Don't picture it just go along with the ride. OK. So. To get even slightly close to that, I actually have to bend my arm so I can see my own scapula. So my shoulder is way out in front of me and my clavicle is at a weird angle I can press on my face. It also #####s with my muscles and the interossei (dorsal) in my thumb hurts like a son of a bitch. Trying the pose another time, so does one of my forearm muscles that I can't identify off the top of my head (there's a lot). I can't physically turn my hand exactly to that without dislocating something, but I can get close enough so I guess the pose is somewhat possible, unfortunately it #####ing hurts and no one would ever do it. But whatever, I was just trying to help your anatomy (the most complicated and important part). I'm not trying to sound condescending or anything and I've done my fair share of similars, but when anatomy is weird like that it sticks out HARD and I've done a #####ing LOT of studies in muscles and bone structure and how it all works together just for this exact kind of thing. There's some other little anatomy things but seeing where this is already going I'm not going to go there.
