I'm saddened by the removal of all the fun sequence breaks and speed tricks but will probably get it when I get a 3DS.

On the subject of 'resolution': There's a point for any given lens size beyond which further CCD 'resolution' is mostly worthless (I say 'mostly' because obviously the pixels don't line up perfectly with the angular 'units' of resolution). Angular resolution increases linearly with lens size. [/telescopegeek]

Ever try running to the front left while sprinting into a dive-to-prone and throwing a grenade?
WASD ties up too many fingers, and I'm used to it but it's frustrating while you run out of fingers.
Honestly it's not that hard. People have been playing games PROFESSIONALLY on mouse and keyboard for ten to twelve years (I don't exactly know when the first professional Quake tournaments popped up). Mind you a lot of those players use EDSF rather than WSAD (it's less intuitive but gives you more keys around the movement group)

Replayability is always a huge factor of the 'length' equation for me. Mega Man X is about 40 minutes "long" (1-3 hours the first time through), but I've spent more than a thousand hours (probably closer to 2 by now) on it over the 17 years since release, and I still love to bring it out every now and again. And I don't even want to know how much time I've dumped into the Tribes franchise (which is still the best multiplayer capture-the-flag series of all time).

Got the chance to try someone's 3DS yesterday. Very impressed. Might end up getting it sooner than I originally predicted.

Gonna wait on this one until I have some money again and one (or both) of:
1) the game library is a little more fleshed out 2) Nintendo make another, marginally improved one and the price of the original model drops to something more reasonable
That said, Nintendo seem to own my soul so the purchase is definitely inevitable

About six months ago I went out and tracked down some early Genesis albums, bought them more or less blind (I knew something of what they might be like based on the other bands they were compared to, but I hadn't heard any early 70s Genesis ever) and was pleasantly surprised. They've since become one of my favourite bands, much to the displeasure of my coworkers *wickedest smile ever goes here* Then just today I found this. It's a piano/vocal arrangement of the entire Lamb Lies Down on Broadway double album, and it is FANTASTIC. And the album's story is absolutely absurd.

X has an amazing rocking OST that came together absolutely beautifully and just works so well. X2 has a lot of really cool time/rhythm experimentation and gets extra marks for that even though it's not as amazing as X. X3 has a handful of really good tracks and a bunch of okay ones with a couple of stinkers. X4 is a good soundtrack overall but I can't think of any real standouts. X5 and X6 have a few amazing tracks each and a bunch of okay others.
Never heard X7-8, Command Mission is okay though.

SEMESTER UPDATE I haven't been doing much composition (pfft when have I ever done much composition) but last semester I joined a jazz band and a choir at my university (at least giving me a musical excuse). Choir performance video is still in the works, but once it's finished I'll probably share it. ANYWAY: Another Sample Pack Contest, another entry. A much better one (by my estimation) but it placed worse (35th of 51). Meh. The entries were pretty damned good, by and large, so I'm not totally disappointed. Seven Proxies: MP3

Man, the new Kid Icarus game absolutely reeks of Sin & Punishment from the screenshots. Which is not a bad thing, because I don't mind rail shooters at all.
Also, your links are horrifically broken. Like, beyond belief

I know, I know
MSGS is trash but it's universal so I tend to use it for contests (which usually stipulate GM1 only anyway because lots of people don't have an xg or other GM2-type synth hanging around), not to mention I get to spend all the time I'd normally use fiddling around with brightness/chorus/reverb settings on the actual composition.
The other sequence was started like a year and a half ago before I even installed xg so I finished it in gs. No real excuses there, just too lazy to rebalance/select new patches.

Hmm it's been forever, I guess I should fix that Entered a composition contest for the month of August, the stipulation of which was that entries must be in 7 time of some kind, so I did a thing. Didn't work on it as much as I would have liked to, and the first 45 seconds or so are far from inspiring, but it picks up as it goes so bear with me HIGH-TECH EXPERIMENTAL FIGHTER: MIDI | MP3 (MSGS optimized, so probably grab the MIDI and you should be good) AND SOMETHING ELSE: I really enjoy the soundtrack to Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt so I sequenced one of the more awesome and recognizable stage themes Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt: Attic/Science Lab/Icebox: MIDI (again MSGS so most people will be good with this)

Not surprised. Microsoft can't stop being Microsoft, never will.
Continuing to not pay for services I should really be getting for only the price of my internet access.

I should probably have tried to be more helpful.
How old is the computer? If it's more than a couple years old (or if you're otherwise not planning on doing anything too graphics-intensive) you should probably grab an old card for cheap, but if it's new you can get a midrange (say $150-200) card that will last you for years to come.
