451  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: How many words per minute can you type? on: 11 February 2009, 00:45:14
"Your speed was: 89wpm.

Congratulations! You made no mistakes, practice does make perfect."

Touch-typing and NaNo for the win.

...really? I thought my average was around 60wpm usually, and 60wpm is much better than the average typist. Not only that, I'm on a LAPTOP. Something is afoot here.

EDIT: Aha! Found it! I don't think other typing tests use standardized word-units of five characters.
452  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Wii Address Codes/Friend codes on: 10 February 2009, 17:13:55
Perhaps I have just been too spoiled by wonderful games like Tribes and Half-Life and Quake and Unreal, but I find the prospect of buying a merely-okay shooter these days less than appetizing, which is why I'm disappointed by Far Cry 2 (definitely not worth your $50, even if I disagree with people who consider it one of the worst games of 2008)
453  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Wii Address Codes/Friend codes on: 10 February 2009, 16:47:15
Infinity Ward, the devs of the first Call of Duty game and a FANTASTIC group of game-makers, were in charge of cod2 and 4. Treyarch, a developer nobody's heard of before for good reason, were in charge of 3 and 5. The quality differences are gargantuan.

EDIT: cod4 is really good but I wouldn't call it 'perfection' by any criterion. There are individual games that do individual things much better than cod4 (for example, UT3 looks better and has better deathmatch, and Counter-Strike has a better bomb-defuse game mode). cod4's strength is pulling it all together and doing all of it pretty well.
454  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Wii Address Codes/Friend codes on: 10 February 2009, 16:39:04
It pales in comparison to other FPS games, unfortunately, especially cod4 which was actually amazing instead of merely okay.
455  MegaMan Matrix / The Creation Station / Re: AyEsArt - [2/9/09 - "Nathaniel" (A Short Story)] on: 10 February 2009, 01:58:41
BAHAHAHAHAH

I wish I'd thought of something like that, the only semi-original writing idea I had was a dialogue at an end-of-the-world party.

I hope this one's good, not stupid like that Fatso guy.

Punk isn't a genre that really lends itself to brass instruments, the brass sound is far too beautiful for such a vicious style.
458  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 7 February 2009, 07:12:35
They're coming to Vancouver, but the tickets to that show sold out in literally five seconds (I witnessed the plight of someone trying to secure a few tickets for themselves). How so many people managed to find scripts that type in a captcha for them defeats me.

The root of the problem of course is that there are 16,000 seats for a metropolitan area of 2,000,000 people. And we have lax anti-scalping laws.
459  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 7 February 2009, 06:22:27
There was talk on the forum of going Penguin-Eagle-Mammoth-Kuwanger-Chameleon-Mandrill-Armadillo-Penguin-Octopus-Armadillo-Fortress, but nobody ever tested it extensively and I'm not qualified to do so.
460  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 7 February 2009, 06:06:35
Well durr it's old news, the run was completed like two and a half years ago.

I am obviously not JC but I've cracked 44 minutes start to finish

EDIT: That'd be for the 100% run of course. Minimalist I've done a 36-minute run but probably couldn't do it again on demand.
461  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 7 February 2009, 06:01:35
Prepare to have all your dreams crushed.
462  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 7 February 2009, 04:54:31
You still need to knock at least dten minutes of that off for a decent 100% run.
463  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Favorite Megaman x boss on: 6 February 2009, 04:41:19
It's got to be like once a week for me, perhaps every two weeks. It helps that there's one right next to my workplace.
464  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The Interesting Image thread! (try to avoid memes) on: 5 February 2009, 05:24:02
The MM one is totally out of place, it would be better as an MMX picture what with the darker tone and bee enemies.
465  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Favorite Megaman x boss on: 4 February 2009, 05:41:17

Remove the 're' from that word and you get a pretty good idea of the fate I'd like to suggest for him

How do you pick the side of the record you slit your throat with? Must be some sort of ninja ability.

Unless you were planning to slit your throat with the SURFACE of the record :S
469  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Let's Play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on: 4 February 2009, 03:01:20
Spaces in filenaming are a relatively new phenomenon, we still have to get used to them.

I'll temporarily support #3 just to help substantiate the argument even though I disagree.
470  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: So. Guitar Hero. Seriously. on: 4 February 2009, 02:52:47
You know, when you say 'best ones', usually there's fewer 'best ones' than otherwise.
471  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Sonic is better on: 4 February 2009, 02:49:26

FINALLY in training to be a cook at the restaurant, figures that my second shift on line would be for the superbowl. Fortunately our restaurant's superbowl party is lame enough that I was anything but busy (in fact I probably spent more time restocking and cleaning than cooking #####), but unfortunately my shift was truncated as a result.
473  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Who created Zero??? on: 2 February 2009, 06:08:28
Then the whole universe as we know it could be turned upside down.

Figuratively speaking, of course.

479  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 27 January 2009, 16:35:49
Finally got Tribes 2 working. Simultaneously wowed by how awesome this game has always been and how effing hard it is to relearn how to aim the weapons.
480  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 26 January 2009, 23:58:35
I should have done my homework before I started on this. Windows 98 doesn't like my crappy integrated Intel graphics card chipset, and vice versa.

Windows 2000, on the other hand, is supported. I'm going to try that next. In fact I'll probably switch my D: partition to win2k when I'm done with win7.
481  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 26 January 2009, 20:00:47
I've probably spent about three hours of my time actively trying to get Tribes 2 to work again. Between all the possible compatibility modes and creating a virtual machine with Windows 98 I've exhausted basically any idea I could possibly have. #####ing unhandled exception c0000005
482  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: MegaMan Robot Master Test on: 24 January 2009, 21:11:49
I like 7 fine for everything except for the play control, which was clunky by comparison to the NES games. In fact, a lot of the soundtrack is pure brilliance.
483  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 24 January 2009, 21:00:09
Most of my high-school friends are girls, so unfortunately when we all decided to go see a movie it was "Bride Wars".

Suffice it to say that I was not there because I expected the movie to be brilliant.

EDIT: On the other hand, it was not a COMPLETE waste of my time, there were a few good gags.
484  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The Interesting Image thread! (try to avoid memes) on: 22 January 2009, 03:00:26
That was the point.
485  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 21 January 2009, 23:39:54
I've seen this in stores and was SOOO close to buying it on the spot. If I get another DS cart any time soon it will be this one.
486  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Papercuts on: 20 January 2009, 05:11:14
Err, no.

This is absolutely fantastic.

Now that my laptop can finally achieve playable framerates in C&C3, I've been playing through the GDI campaign and enjoying every minute of it. I've always loved the series' over-the-top FMV cutscenes and ridiculous storylines.
488  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 17 January 2009, 19:30:48
Verdict so far: great. Boots faster, runs leaner, has actually made some games which were unplayable on my machine under Vista playable (C&C 3, I'm looking at you).

I was lucky enough to have a preexisting partition on my hard drive, didn't have to do any formatting or whatnot.
489  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 17 January 2009, 07:11:21
Just grabbed myself a Windows 7 beta. So far it looks a lot like Vista, and though I've heard it runs much leaner and faster I haven't really been able to put it to the test yet. In fact, I don't think Intel even has Windows 7 drivers out for my POS integrated graphics card yet :S
490  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: MegaMan Robot Master Test on: 15 January 2009, 23:07:29

I wasted the entire last 30 seconds trying to remember Search Man's exact name...

I refuse to care unless it turns out to be a GOOD series when the details are released.

FILM IT WHEN IT HAPPENS.

There was a forty-five minute lineup just to get into the university bookstore yesterday, and I went at 9:30 AM.

Like, when the store OPENED.

But I did get in and I spent $500 and for that I got enough books for it to FEEL like I spent $500, which surprised me.
495  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 6 January 2009, 23:11:59
Monday my university cancelled all classes due to excessive snow and being on a big #####ing hill and such, so today was the first day back at school for me, which was nice because Tuesday is my easiest day - merely a two-hour Fundamentals of Music lecture.

What is strange about this Fundamentals of Music class is the fact that I might actually learn something I didn't already know. I was already well aware of my lack of music theory (which is why I didn't simply apply for a course waiver in the first place), but did not think the course would extend very much past what I do know. But in fact I will likely spend the entire last third of the course actually learning.

It's okay, nobody's looking.
497  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: Show your Avatars! on: 4 January 2009, 17:11:17
The SNES version get's on my nerves way easily. I have no idea how you can actually prefer the SNES version. Maybe you're just messing with me. :o

I'm not. The GBA's sound capabilities are far inferior to the SNES. I'll take a sampled bass over a sawtooth wave any day, and sampled synth leads over a square wave.
498  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 4 January 2009, 17:06:50
It's a TERRIBLE movie, but it's so great because it's Wing Commander and the subject material was uber-campy anyway.
499  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Star Wars Battlefront III surfaces on: 4 January 2009, 17:04:48
Was only really two movies. The third is optional viewing.
