MegaMan Matrix / The Creation Station / Re: PREVENTERS! -The BEST comic jam
|
on: 15 July 2008, 23:24:52

I had an idea for a possible direction for the story, but didn't have the room to mention it.
Since the Preventers were down to three, the ADMINs weren't going to fight them, because of course ANY Super Sentai team needs five members, and anything else is unacceptable.
I would have made myself and Jake Preventers, but other than PreventerClean and PreventerDelicious, I couldn't think up good powers; so that's kind of a no go.
And the whole Rez thing is because he's an admin, and it makes for lol plot twist!!! [/Shyamalan]
I WONDER WHAT WING WILL DO?
And Mike. Didn't see his huge post before I wrote this. But it sounds OK to me.

If it's on more than one platform, it won't be a good game. If it's Final Fantasy, it won't be a good game.
FFXIII has both of these qualities. It is not a good game.
When you make a game that's transferable between the Windows and UNIX operating environments (XBox and PS3 respectively), a lot of shortcuts have to be made on one system or the other. Neither version can use the platform's potential properly.
That's not so bad for the 360, because it's already at its potential limit. The PS3, on the other hand, is part super-computer. Like every Sony console to date, it will take quite some time before it's used properly.
But it will never happen if people continue to release games multi-platform. It's laziness, and shouldn't be acceptable.
I won't even get myself started on Square hatred.

I have a this vendetta against the XBox.
To me, it represents everything that is wrong with the games industry these days. I also hate Microsoft to no end (to the point that I'm about to switch to Linux completely and just run Wine to play my games and crap).
They steal everything, they never come up with their own ideas, they steal developers and exclusive games, and they just generally try to monopolize the industry.
You don't want that to happen because creativity will be dead and you'll be playing games on the #####tiest console this generation.

MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Which Megaman Series Had The Best Character Designs?
|
on: 15 July 2008, 15:26:21

Classic has the best combination of simplicity of form and raw style.
X is the second best but there's always a bit too much going on, especially with newer reploids. Not everyone needs 800 little doodads, it only helps them get more and more Gundam-y.
Legends is OK but is pretty much the Taco Bell of designs; Everything is made from the same six ingredients. Almost everyone who isn't a huge character looks like the same person.
Zero and ZX is gross. It's like the homo erotic pedophiles' wet dream version of Heavy Metal.
Battle Network and Starforce is cookie cutter Capcom anime style. It's not bad for what it is but it's not really anything new or even different.
Why did I never see this? Anyway, Mikero's post expresses my opinion exactly. Classic has Wily. Wily is the coolest looking mother#####er in the entirety of Megaman.

If they could make X9 look like the old games, play like X4, allow you to duck, AND not force you to play as Axl, then it would be OK with me.
It's too much wishful thinking, though.

The Day After Tomorrow was that apocalyptic snowstorm movie, right? I liked it, but then I like ice and snow.
I make it a point not to watch any movie with "Movie" in the title.
The first thing that happened in that trailer? Iron man being squashed by a car cow? ... what was that about? That doesn't even make enough sense to be funny, unless you're a five-year-old.
The rest of it is just more of the same poorly coordinated slapstick "comedy" with very, very poor acting.

I know we should be more concerned about Mega Man, but Metroid II was a good game, and it needs more love.
Sorry, but this game has my attention at the moment.
Apparently the same guy is doing both or something. That one does actually look better. I've come to like the Super sprites more than the Zero Mission sprites. This is in part due to Super Justin Bailey, but I'll not go into that.

There's never a point to anything unless you make one yourself. But people do pointless things all the time, so it's no biggie. I mean... ... I guess my point is that at some point the points of life are pointedly pointing toward pointlessness, but it's not the end of the world.

I just now came back from watching Hellboy II. I liked it. Mind you I've read very, very little of the comics, but the movie itself holds up solidly.
The romance scenes are a little overdone at points, but so much awesome crap happens later because of it that you can't complain. They tie in things and keep the movie's plot pretty solid and devoid of loose ends (well, mostly).
This sort of thing is important when you're marketing to more than a niche audience. I'd say it's a good compromise, but I'm curious to know what Lunche thinks (probably hates it).

Drawn sprites allow for a slighter higher resolution and fluidity of movement that allows a high-end graphical system to make the most out of a 2D system. Imagine Mega Man X on the SNES.
Now imagine what could be done if the sprites were at HD resolution. Obviously, just spriting them by MSPaint isn't going to work out so well. Drawing them does.
I also think it lends more to the style of the game.
It makes the animation more fluid and everything flows nicer, from what I've seen in the trailers.
That might be true except that what I said about how if it's done well in either medium, it's done well. You can say that HD MMX would be better, but that's just obvious since they didn't even have to possibility to make sprites that way back then. I think in this day and age they could probably sprite something much more complicated than back then that would have great resolution.
And the fluidity of the animation is based more on how well they animate, and not the medium. I've seen incredible animations with paint. I've seen great animations with MS Paint. The fact I've seen better animations more often in the traditional pencil medium isn't important, that craft is just older and more refined.
So again what I mean is, if it's done well in either medium, it will be great. An apple is an apple, red or green or yellow.
You can't make many fluid animations when you only have so much space for sprite data. Technical limitations force the artists hand. But you're the animator, so I'll let you have this one. I concede. This game looks amazing. It's exactly what I think is needed to revive 2D gaming.

See, I realize there's a destinct difference between what they were doing, and tabletop RPing.
The thing is, the people that I know who play D&D do the same type of ##### while the dungeon master tells them that they've been hit with a poison arrow and must make a saving throw.
I also realize that not everyone does that.
It is they way I see RPers though; Like Giant 5 year olds playing pretend.

Can he beat up the original green ranger when the original green ranger was evil and had that original green ranger green candle burning to give him, the original green ranger, power or whatever it did to the original green ranger?
The Aestevalis is an advanced piece of machinery capable of more fluid movements than any of the power Zords available to the Green Ranger at any time. It has it's own distortion force field and a progressive knife like weapon. Beyond the range of the main ship's power transfer, it has a limited battery, but the machine is easily powerful enough to destroy the thing in such a short time. On the other hand, Kamina's Gurren Lagann runs on Spiral Energy (or so I read, I've only watched four episodes, the show is OK). Spiral Energy is the virulent life force existent in all evolving beings that causes them to advance and evolve, and after a certain point of evolution can be used to induce advancement in non-liking things as well. It's a dangerous power, but it can far outmatch the Aestevalis. THIS HAS BEEN GIANT ROBOT TIME WITH DR. CHRON

I had Blue, and then Gold, at which point I discovered the game was actually stupid now so I haven't touched Pokemans since. Blue was good fun. I know we should be more concerned about Mega Man, but Metroid II was a good game, and it needs more love. Remake looks nice, and the tech demo plays perfectly.

Ah, the alone for a week thing. Good times, good times. Practice running around naked and drink some of the alcohol. Don't do both at once. Trust me on that. Sounds rough, tell her the boys down at the local MegaMan forum give their salute.
anyway, today was annoying, my mother came over starting ##### with my father, which is basically just her yelling and being a drama lama. We ordered take out which I didn't eat much of, now shes sleeping over, in my bed. I really hope this doesn't happen when I start work or go to school.
I also checked my hard drive.. I have over 5 gb of Gurren Lagann junk..
You really have to try hard to have 4x more of ANYTHING than I have of Flash animations. I also salute.

D&D takes a hilariously long time to set up, but once you get it going it's a lot of fun. I can say that, and I was only guest-playing in a game as someone's cat (and role playing it quite well) in a very short campaign. You do come out of the experience with a lot of horrible inside jokes. "They glow when I get excited."
I've never been able to get enough of a group around to go for a decent campaign, but eh. I'd love to DM one at some point; I think I could get away with that and be happy as a grunt programmer the rest of my life, maybe. hell, if i make my own rule set, there's a slim chance i get a video game anyway
The biggest problem with the game is finding a group. My father's been lucky enough to have one that's been meeting for over 20 years now (although they play WoW now, which strikes me as odd).

No, no. She's absolutely right.
Involved character descriptions are only good where appropriate, which doesn't happen very often. Well, like that sort of gooshy mushy pretty princess stuff.
But when you get down to descriptions that read like... I dunno, "When Hellboy smiled, his face was like a dry, roasted peanut," it can be pretty decent.
