Title: Megaman 9
Post by: Jwhude on 31 October 2008, 01:25:22
If you guys could tell me what you would rate the game out of ten that would be cool. I am thinking of getting it.

Don't think twice man, this game is a definite 10/10 for me. It uses everything great about the classic series.

9/10, not only for appropriateness to the title but because it was VERY good but not perfect.

Only part that ticked me off was the no Bass part. Everything else I saw as gold.

The fortress tunes were very weak. Mega Man fortress themes are not ALLOWED to be weak.

Rate Mega Man 9...?

Out of the other nine classic games...?

...

I'd put it as my second favorite. It doesn't beat Mega Man 2, but I'd say it comes pretty close.

EDIT: NVM. Third favorite. Forgot Powered Up.

We're the robots was anything BUT weak. I thought it was near perfect, one of the best tunes of MM9. And thankfully, the Arrange didn't mess that one up too much. Strange world was also kickin', very wicked, Flash in the dark was slightly above average.

But alas, the Arrange royally messed a LOT of this ##### up.

"We're the Robots" is a four-star for me, as well as "Flash in the Dark", but the third tune (for which I don't have the name because I'm too lazy to boot up my ZEN) is borderline atrocious and the fourth (again, don't have the name) another four-star but only BARELY.

In contrast, MM1-7 have five-star fortress tunes STRAIGHT ACROSS THE BOARD, and most of MM8's fortress themes were better than its RM themes. MM&B I haven't played enough to remember and I don't have any rips to rate anyway.

Of course, opinions, blah blah blah.

Third one is Strange World. Well, I really liked them, really had a punch to it.

I thought Wily Stage 4 was ##### and Wily Stage 3 was pretty good. The weakest themes in the game are actually the ones they took from MM2 (Menu/Weapon Get/rehashing the Dr. Wily castle map theme/Game Start/Stage Clear, etc.)

I love Wily Stage 1 and 2 though.  And all the Robot Master stage themes are good too.

It is lame how they swiped ##### from MM2, but it definitely stuck. They made a great option screen theme. And I don't think anything else could do much better.

MM9 is as awesome as MM2 and MM3

I wouldn't go THAT far.  I liked 4 AND 7 a lot more than 9.  But I definately like 9.

And I HATE MM2's password screen/weapon get music.  The rest of the game's music is classic, but those two are among the series worst.

Don't you mean MM9's password screen/weapon get music?

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: TheRedPriest on 31 October 2008, 19:53:09
No, I mean 2's, as it's what they used in 9.  And I didn't like them in 2 either.

No.

Anyway, they're excellent tunes.

MM9's only standout tune is TornadoMan.

MM9's soundtrack was one of the best ever.  Rivaling that of MM2.

Ok I just downloaded it on my 360, thanks.

Uh, no.  But it wasn't bad at all.

Honestly, I sorta liked 2.

Because 2's is great.

Because 2's is great.

Sorry I actually meant 3.

There's no NES Mega Man soundtrack that I don't like.

In fact, the only NES Mega Man soundtrack with any songs I actually DISLIKED was MM5.

Dude... I beat Fake Man!
Cheap bastard didn't even give me a weapon!

CAPCOM IS SHOWING US THAT NOTHING GOOD COMES FROM DISOBEYING AUTHORITY!

He's FAKE Man, you ape! He's not a real Robot Master and only real Robot Masters give you real weapons. Really.

At best, you get to PRETEND you're using his weapon. And then, maybe, it'll be real? Like food in Neverland?

I still haven't even downloaded the Special Stage yet.

His weapon is a buster. Therefore you've had his weapon ever since Mega Man 1.

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: ChaosVortex on 9 November 2008, 19:22:49
No. That's a fake buster. You have a Mega Buster/Arm cannon.

Just downloaded and am starting this game now. :-)

Title: Re: Megaman 9

It annoys me that MM's gun is called a Mega Buster when it doesn't charge.

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: Fatso on 10 November 2008, 18:56:19
I've never been sure how to interpret that sentence in MM4's intro anyway. It could just be a new Mega Buster, or it could be THE new Mega Buster. Doesn't help that it was only shown as "P" before then.

Post by: Abominator on 10 November 2008, 18:59:16
Yeah, all of that is annoying.

No forethought!

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: NovaMan XP on 10 November 2008, 21:13:50
If I remember right...

In Japan, it was the Rock Buster, then in MM4 it was called the Hyper Rock Buster.

However, in the west it was known as the Arm Cannon, and then when MM4 came around it was called the Mega Buster.

But still, Fatso makes a good point.

Eh, a buster is a buster to me, as long as I can kill things.

Really? I loved that one. The Proto Man's fortress stage music is pretty cool.

I liked the wily stages myself.

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: Fatso on 29 December 2008, 05:44:18
I love MOST of the songs, particularly the fortress stages and Crystal Man, but Gyro Man and Wave Man simply do not sound good at all.

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: Shawn on 29 December 2008, 05:51:20
Another one I liked was the stage selection music.

But the Complete Works soundtrack is FAR superior to the original.

No.

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: Shawn on 29 December 2008, 05:56:10
OBJECTION!

How could it possibly not be better? The melodies are clearer, they sound better, and more lively. What's not to like?

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: Fatso on 29 December 2008, 06:00:52
'Better' perhaps in a technical sense because of the differing technology in use. However, by no means were the arrangements themselves better. Most of them were in fact TERRIBLE.

Title: Re: Megaman 9
Post by: Shawn on 29 December 2008, 06:02:00
Really? Which ones? I didn't find any of them awful. They all sound lovely imo.

Title: Re: Megaman 9

Complete Work remixes are a mixed bag.  Some are pretty good, some are awful.  None are better than the originals.

The original Plant Man theme is a lot better than the Complete Works one, I'll give ya that.
