Yeah, that'll happen. You get a full red ring if you don't plug the cords in all the way. It's the three bar red ring that you have to watch out for.
404  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 6 December 2008, 21:35:06
I never really considered Saw a horror film.
It seemed like more of a Psychological Thriller than anything else.
405  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Fable II on: 6 December 2008, 21:30:19
I hate to say this, but what you're describing are the early characteristics of the onset of a RROD.

I liked the first Saw. Everything after has been weak. Kind of like the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

ROFL
408  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 5 December 2008, 19:29:27
I'm mostly just skeptical because of the developer.

Bloodrayne sucked. Bloodrayne 2 sucked. Æon Flux sucked. Spy Hunter 3 sucked. The only things they've done well have been collections (Metal Slug, SNK, King of Fighters).

This is not terribly reassuring.
409  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 5 December 2008, 18:38:13
I love that Akroyd and Ramis wrote it, but so far that's the only thing I love.
410  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Chrono Trigger on the DS? on: 4 December 2008, 23:34:43
Having now played through both new dungeons, I can say they were... well...

The one thing that I thought the original Chrono Trigger did really well was it's side quests. They weren't necessary, but they bagged you some neat stuff, and it was always stuff that had been set up previously. The items felt like they had history, like some sort of ancient and powerful relic only spoken of in legend. That and the characters the side quests involved had already been established, so you had at least some reason to care. In short, the game did a really good job of creating a cohesive universe.

The new side quests don't possess those qualities. The first one that becomes available is a village of little interchangeable reptites (who are going to become extinct shortly anyway, so who cares?) that send you on various fetch quests across five different areas. You can get some decent items from it, but it ends up feeling like a total chore, and it smacks of lazy design.

The second area is unlocked once you beat the game, and is slightly better, but not by terribly much. It has better items (though once you've beaten the game, who really cares about those?), but the dungeon itself is just a rehash of areas you've already been, with the same enemies in the same locations. Every now and then you'll come across a new room, but that happens so infrequently that it hardly masks the "copy/paste" nature of the area. Once you get to the end, you're treated to a new final boss and a new ending.

The new boss and ending are the sole saving graces of the bonus dungeons, but the whole thing feels so tacked on that the game almost fares better without them.

Oh. And there's an arena where you can train monsters. That's about all the mention that feature warrants.

Nutshell: Chrono Trigger is a classic, and to this day remains on my list of "Best Games Ever". The new features barely justify the purchase if you already own a copy on the SNES or PSX, but if you don't own it or haven't played it, this is a fantastic way to do so without spending stupid amounts of money or resorting to illegal measures...

...just keep in mind that some elements where added in later. The original was golden; this remake is the same amount of gold, but with some ugly brass ornamentation.

Lunar eclipses are capable of lasting as long as the one on Heroes.

In theory, solar eclipses cap out at seven minutes and thirty one seconds.

I'm also curious where Nathan and Peter where supposed to be, since the eclipse was visible from there as well. I assume Haiti, given they were after the brother of "The Haitian". Does that mean we are to understand that a full solar eclipse had a visible range that spanned the continental United States and Haiti?

Heroes = Astronomical fail.

I'd also like to point out that Nathan flew way before the eclipse in season one.

Also,
why did Noah wait for Sylar and What's-her-name to finish having sex before he took the shot?... actually... nevermind. I don't want to know the answer to that.
C:\MIKERO.EXE -GOOBERS

Edit: for those of you whom that reference obviously predates, back in the days when you played games from your DOS prompt "C:\WOLF3D.EXE -GOOBERS" was how you activated Wolfenstein 3D's god mode.

The plural of ninja is ninja.

It's annoying when the English language feels the need to force it's rules on words that don't belong to it.

Also, that hat makes JC look like Dan Haggerty.

Okay, I thought Fiendlord was bad, but they've completely abandoned the term "Mystic" and replaced it with Fiend.

Calling them Mystics made them feel like a separate race. Calling them Fiends makes them seem like monsters.

I know I'm nitpicking, but I don't understand why they felt that was a change that needed to be made.

Doesn't this happen every year?

Just about. It's still terrible though.

Hell, I've been to concerts where people where pissed and punching anything that got near them, but they were still courteous enough to help you up if you fell.
421  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Man trampled to death at a Wal-Mart on Black Friday. on: 29 November 2008, 05:28:48
Comparing consumerism to a slut is poetic.

I worked today. It was hellish.

Within the first hour we where open, some woman comes flying up from the back of the store with her kid, rushing out. I barely heard her as she passed, but she mentioned something about "threw up". The floor toward the back of the store was covered with what appeared to be curdled milk that smelled of bile.
I made one of the part-time employees clean it up, but the entire store smelled like bad milk and puke for the rest of the day.

As for the dude who was trampled, it's hardly surprising. No one who gets to Wal-mart that early in the morning is thinking about anyone but themselves. Sure, they're shopping for gifts, but they're trying to save themselves money.

It's the same reason they're all more than happy to run you off the road if they think it means they'll get a better parking spot.
422  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Chrono Trigger on the DS? on: 29 November 2008, 05:22:02
So... they changed the translation. It's a lot of small things, but some of them are really bugging me.

Example: It's not Magus' army anymore. He is still Magus, but when humans refer to him, he's the Fiendlord.
Lame.

On the plus side, once you get used to the new menu navigation, it's pretty streamlined.

I haven't gotten to the new content yet, but I'll report back on it once I have.

I used to date a chick who was an A-cup; she was a total demon in bed.

Some of them know they're compensating, and have mastered far more desirable traits.
424  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 26 November 2008, 06:46:09
Sylar has been ruined. If he killing isn't the price of his power, he's boring.

I'm glad they went somewhere with the Speedsters past. I was tired of the constant "We could have you returned to your former life". They seriously beat you over the head with that one.

I will always love Noah.

It's not that it's a bad game, it's just shallower than advertised.

Still, I played all the way through it, and cared enough to get all of it's achievements.

I'm also pretty starved for decent RPGs lately, since any of the ones worth owning are on the 360.

LOST is another show I haven't seen anything of and know very little about.

I'm told I'd like it, but I'm afraid to watch it because I somehow suspect people don't know what the ##### they're talking about.

I also get bored when plots don't go anywhere.
432  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 18 November 2008, 20:42:05
Why do I keep watching Heroes?

I seriously want to know the answer to this.

Also, how is that Terminator show? I was scared away from the IP when the third movie left me wondering what I had just done with two hours of my life.

But I saw that preview at the beginning of The Dark Knight, and I'm starting to wonder if it isn't dead after all.

Just finished BioShock. I was late to the party because I won't buy a 360.
Great game, but that's old news.
I'm pretty interested in seeing where they take the sequel though.

Call it "Legendary" syndrome.

I feel so bad for those guys. You could really tell in interviews that they don't think their game sucks as badly as it does.
439  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 13 November 2008, 05:07:36
And Halo rips off Half-Life, and Half-Life rips off Doom, and Doom rips off Duke Nukem, and Duke Nukem Rips off Bruce Campbell.

Transitive property, then, says Metroid Prime ripped off Bruce Campbell
440  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Chrono Trigger on the DS? on: 13 November 2008, 00:52:08
Agreed. Maybe the expected scope of games these days is what does it. When you have to fit so much stuff into a game, you have to break everything down into teams. Sure, that's how it was done in the past two, but it wasn't so... compartmentalized?
Smaller groups tend to have better chemistry and a stronger unified vision.

Too many cooks pissing in the soup, or however that colloquialism goes.
441  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 13 November 2008, 00:49:46
I still have my GC versions of the first two Metroid Prime games, but will happily forsake them if this box set ever makes it to the US.

Metroid Prime + Wiimote = Win

The second one gets a bad rap. Sure, it's the weakest of the three, but it's still a relatively good game. Especially considering all the other ##### out there these days.
442  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 12 November 2008, 04:58:51
Cool. I may check out the pilot just to get it's flavour.

Never heard of it. Any good?

Please keep in mind that my television viewing habits consists of word of mouth suggestions procured "after broadcast" let's say. I don't know what's on these days if people don't tell me.
444  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 12 November 2008, 02:29:27
*has no idea what you're talking about*

Start with the first Season, if you watch any of it.
They took almost all of the best elements of the book and improved upon the writing and ending.

Newer seasons lack a lot of the character strength that the first had, and don't have plot-lines that could even begin contend with the Ice-Truck killer and the tapystry of themes at play in season one.

They really ought to bring in Jeff Lindsay as a writers consultant. The books aren't as well done as the show, but the show doesn't have it's vision without the books.
445  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 12 November 2008, 02:23:25
Completely understandable.

It sucks to be the guy who has to tell people that we don't have it yet as well. I don't know why the release date isn't the day it's available in stores. What's the point in announcing it's shipping?
446  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 12 November 2008, 00:57:30
They shipped it to stores just today, so unless you live in the middle of nowhere; yes.

Also, I'm extremely fortunate in my pre-releases. My store managers score free ##### for different systems, and I'm the only one there who actually owns a PS3 (irony).

I'm sure it isn't very common in most stores, but I'm also sure our building manager is sucking the CEO's dick.
447  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia on: 12 November 2008, 00:55:51
And that giant centaur ain't #####, he's so easy and so predictable. Using the scythe weapon along with the death ring takes off loads of damage.

Every time he stood up after I broke the things on his back legs, he hit me and I died.

Well, almost. Eventually I managed to perfect run him.

It also took me forever to figure out how to kill Dracula. I tried the thee Dominus combo one time early on in my string of attempts, but I did it just a little too early and it didn't take, so I just assumed it wasn't what I was supposed to use.
448  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 12 November 2008, 00:50:02
I've been watching the third season of Dexter, regardless of the fact that the first episode introduced a plot line that feel obvious and tacked on.

I'm glad I did. While said plot-line is rubbish, the rest of the writing is gold.

It's pretty obvious who the killer is, but this season is much better than season 2.
449  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 11 November 2008, 18:56:58

Mirrors Edge was pretty good. Short, and occasionally frustrating, but it does a pretty good job of conveying the rush that must be associated with parkour.
