It was something I considered, but I'm honestly not sure how much I would enjoy myself.
I don't really feel a connection to the modern gaming subculture, since almost no one knows what the ##### they're talking about half the time; Like games didn't exist before the original X-Box.

Also, that song is awesome.
303  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 15 June 2009, 06:54:29
Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies are two totally different shows.

Dead Like Me was trying to appeal to the snarky late-teenager demographic, while Pushing Daisies is going for a more earnest family appeal. Both were morbid shows, but they both delivered their thanatos in completely different packaging.
304  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 15 June 2009, 06:50:55
I said it was the weakest that we had seen.

We skipped A Bugs Life, Cars, and Ratatouille.
305  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 14 June 2009, 19:21:59
Finished Prototype earlier today.
Very fun game, but not the type of game you pick up if you like downtime between missions. This game can be relentless.
Between Prototype and inFamous, I still prefer inFamous, though I really wish it had Prototype's speed.
306  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 14 June 2009, 19:16:53
Exactly! You just don't hear enough physics jokes these days, and Futurama is the place to get them.

First episode of Weeds' 5th season was pretty good. I'm really glad they're making sure you (and Nancy) understand just how #####ed Nancy really is.
The weight of the situation is fully apparent, and I was afraid it wasn't going to be.
That said, I miss when the show was more light-hearted.
307  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 14 June 2009, 19:11:50
I went and saw Up on Friday night for Emili's birthday. She and I both agree that, while it wasn't a BAD movie, it was easily the weakest Pixar film that we'd ever seen. The villain was rather gray, all the funniest moments were in the preview, and the idea of this guys dead wife is hanging over his head the whole time (symbolically that's exactly what the house was) was gave the whole movie a melancholy tone that tinged even its funnier moments.

I had to watch Airplane! afterword to remind myself that REAL comedy once existed.
308  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 8 June 2009, 16:34:42
Season premier of Weeds airs this evening.

I'm not sure I care about that show anymore, but I'll likely watch the first few episodes to make sure.

I'll never understand why they burnt down Agrestic. It was practically the secondary character.

Where are the abusive men that justify an irrational hatred of the entire sex?

Or the psychotic woman that wants to steal your baby and has been secretly replacing your breast milk with her own?

My cell phone has a camera on it, but I still only ever use my digital camera.
My cell phone plays MP3s, but I still only ever use my Zune for that.
My cell phone can work as a web browser, but I never take advantage of it.

If I don't use those features on an item I have on my person at almost all times, I have a hard time imaging using them on the DSi.

I'll stick to my DS lite until they can give me a legitimate reason to upgrade, and not just useless add-ons.

WTF?
314  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 6 June 2009, 08:19:08
If I didn't do drugs, I'd agree with you.

On topic, having now soaked up pretty much everything E3 had to show us, and not wanting to sound like a fanboy, I think Sony really mopped the floor this year. Of the three press conferences, their line-up was easily the strongest. Everything anyone else had to show, they trumped. That glowing dildo motion controller bitchslapped Wii Motion + AND 360's camera at the same time, and their game lineup was second to none.

Pure insanity.
315  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 5 June 2009, 18:01:14
Cool video. I like The Beatles pretty well, particularly their drugged out stuff.

That said, I don't care for Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
More power to those of you who do though.

It would be nice if the game actually featured tripped out visuals like that, but I'd almost think they'd be distracting, so I'd doubt it.

320  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 4 June 2009, 18:32:20
Finished inFamous a few days ago. I was skeptical when I first saw it, but playing the demo changed my mind.

The game itself was pretty good. Not genre defining in any way, but the climbing mechanic was solid, and the game itself was pretty damn fun. Hitting someone with a sticky electrical grenade and watching them run and flail wildly before exploding was amusing EVERY time. The good vs. evil decisions were as black and white as they ever are, and didn't change the story too terribly much, but made a pretty big difference in the way the game played. Good actions gave you moves that focused on accuracy and restoring your health, while evil actions gave you attacks that cause massive amounts of collateral damage, while not necessarily sacrificing accuracy.  Even more amazing was that neither path felt advantageous over the other. It was amazingly balanced, even if being evil was more fun in the long run.

The story was pretty decent. There wasn't anything terribly revolutionary about it, but that makes sense, as it almost seemed like an homage to the comic books that inspired its style. I'd say the pacing seemed wanting, but that was entirely my own fault as I'm easily distracted by side missions, especially when they help you power up. The ending wasn't terribly shocking (pun intended) but it left me wanting the sequel that will obviously be coming.
321  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 4 June 2009, 18:15:33
Brutal Legend breaks my heart.
I was looking very forward to it when it was first announced.
Then they announced that Jack Black would be doing the voice acting, because as we all know, there's NOTHING more metal than Jack Black *rolls eyes*
But I figured, that's okay, I'll just turn off the voices and turn on the subtitles.
Then I saw the character design...
How am I supposed to ignore that it's Jack Black now?
I would have bought it, but now I can't imagine doing so.

If I didn't have a PSP, I'd get a PSP Go, assuming it's just as mod-able as the previous generations.

I'm disappointed that Assassin's Creed 2 is rehashing the same time period. Feudal Japan would have been a better setting, as I can't help but feel as though I've already done this all before.

Heavy Rain is looking good. Here's hoping it doesn't have the same issues as Indigo Prophecy.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 makes me happy. Now all they have to do is port Tales of Vesperia (in the US) and I will have officially lost any interest in getting a 360.

Ratchet & Clank Future also makes me happy. It's good to know that game designers out there are still using more than two or three colors at a time.

Uncharted 2 LOOKS good, but seems as generic as the first.

Is it possible for Pixel Junk to put out a bad game? "Shooter" is a stupid name though; Never let your consumer base decide anything.

I'm curious to see how Dante's Inferno will work out. I'd love to see a visual representation of all the circles of hell, especially if they stay as true to the imagery as they're claiming. That being said, the literature they're building off of had no conflict, it was pretty much just a poet walking through hell describing what he saw. I've seen their design for Dante, and I can't help but feel like, no matter how close they stick to the poem visually, they'll piss all over it in the long run.

YAY for another Team ICO game! Took #####ing long enough.

I'm anxiously looking forward to devouring the latest Metroid installment, though I'm not sure I understand how they're going to mix first person and side scrolling. Most games that try to tackle multiple perspectives fail at it.

I'm apprehensive and yet hopeful about Bioshock 2. I loved the first, I just really hope this obvious attempt at creating a franchise to milk doesn't sully the name of the original.

God of War III. Yup. It'd be hard to mess that one up, just stick to what works and finish the story. This game was the whole reason I bought a PS3 in the first place.

A resounding "meh" goes to the majority of the rest of what I've seen come out of E3 though.

That said, it isn't over yet. More opinionated rambling to come, I'm sure.
322  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Peta strikes again! on: 29 March 2009, 19:45:40
I think they should go and try this argument in any country where they're happy to have ANY food.

If you're fortunate enough to be able to chose your meals, you should probably just shut the ##### up.
323  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Peta strikes again! on: 29 March 2009, 16:30:29
Trying to do big, altruistic things globally. By and large we really don't know enough about the environment to really know WHAT is going on; like global warming.

Also, PETA are idiots. Just because someone chooses to anthropomorphize an animal does not make them morally superior. If I evolved to eat nothing but nuts and berries, my teeth would reflect that. Fortunately for me, I have lots of teeth designed specifically for tearing into flesh, so as far as I'm concerned my dietary choices are justified.

If you chose not to eat meat or be a vegan or whatever floats your boat, that's fine. I don't judge people for choices like that. I DO judge people when they feel the need to ##### with MY meal though.
324  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 26 March 2009, 05:04:48
I just finished doing everything there possibly is to do in Resident Evil 5. I certainly don't think the game was revolutionary in any way, and there was a part of me that felt weird about being a white guy in nice, clean clothes running through a village of mud huts while I shot angry black men in grass skirts who's faces where half rotted off, but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be either. Sure the inventory is horrible, and Sheva is about as worthless as they come (especially on Professional difficulty; she's dead weight.) but the game was still fun to play. There's just something really satisfying when you pop a "zombies" head, or putting a bullet square between a lickers frontal lobes.

That being said, having unlocked everything and gotten all trophies, I probably won't be putting this in again for a long while, if ever. I'm not the least bit interested in the DLC multiplayer for this game. All in all, I enjoyed the 60ish hours this lasted.

I'll start paying attention when there's actually some scientific merit to the claim, as opposed to religious nuts claiming the end of days, or some asshat choosing some arbitrary year.

I suspect that future generations will be making fun of us for constantly thinking the world was going to end.

Madworld is pretty good. It reminds me a bit of Wild 9 on the PSone, just due to the variety of ways to kill your foes. That said, it's a better game.

I like the artistic direction, and I've been looking for a good beat-em-up lately. John DiMaggio and Greg Proops are freaking perfect as announcers, and give the game a lot of charm.

If you liked No More Heroes, you should check this one out too.

Yeah, I get what the argument is, but there are varying degrees of taboo. I know it's different for everyone, but I think we can agree that genitals and nipples aren't at the same level.
335  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 9 March 2009, 21:53:14
When compared to what the majority of Americans are used to in their films, yes it was.

I didn't care, but I did find it annoying when some of the women I know got on a "it's about time" kick where they complained about the way breasts are so common in movies, so it was nice to see some wang. That's not the same though. In our culture there really isn't a male equivalent to breasts. Showing some guys doodle is analogous to showing a woman's vertical smile, not her chest.

How does that elude some people?

I don't like it.

As a countdown to Halloween one year, Fuu released a series of stylized robot masters with accompanying fan fiction in various forms (like comic segments, or writing.) It wasn't the artwork itself that sold me on it, it was the amount of work that went into creating the style he was going for.

The whole series of drawings and writing had well crafted overlying themes, which is why they remain some of my favorite fan renditions to this day.

341  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 8 March 2009, 20:13:40
My favorite line in the entire movie was when what's-her-name asked who's-his-face if something was wrong, while he was standing naked in the basement/sewer in the middle of the night and staring at his old costume.

Does anything about that scenario NOT seem wrong?

Also, Blue Dude gets my respect NOT because he has crazy blue dude powers, but because his junk is immune to shrinkage, even at arctic temperatures.

343  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 8 March 2009, 07:44:20
I just got back from Watchmen. It's completely possible that this is due to the fact that I'm not familiar with the source material (I'm not really the comic type) but I was totally underwhelmed. The blue guy and Mr. Inkblot where pretty much the only characters that I found even remotely interesting (maybe the comedian, if he would have gotten more character development time) and for the most part it just felt like they where trying to do too much at once.

I have to imagine that the comic does a much better job with the material, because I don't think the paint-by-numbers film a just saw deserves the cult following the franchise seems to have.

On a related note: Does anyone else find it annoying when movies like this come out and people who you KNOW didn't even know the comic existed try to front like they're OG?
"OMG! I love The Watchman! I read those when I was a kid"
"... the word 'the' isn't in the title, and no you didn't. You read Spiderman. Only Spiderman."
I remember a similar experience when Sin City came out; It's no less irritating now.

349  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 18 December 2008, 16:14:32
Then I'll try my hand on Emerald and Ruby WEAPONS but I doubt I can even manage to scratch them. x_x

Emerald Weapon: Knights of the Round + Quadra Magic + Mime

Ruby Weapon: Kill two of your comrades before entering the battle, that way he doesn't do that damn whirlsand move. Once his hands are in the sand, cast phoenix to bring them back. Now you have a full party, which helps a lot. Next you'll want to w-summon Hades and Knights of the Round, then mime the hell out of those. Also, equipping items like ribbons, mystiles, and Minerva bands will help nurf any attacks Ruby manages to use.

My opinion on it all?

FF1-FF6: EPIC!

FF7-FF?: EPIC FAIL!

I can't help but wonder what qualifiers lead you to group them in such a fashion.

I would give it another shot but I'm worried even having FF7 anywhere near my house will alert rabid fans to come press up on my windows like civil zombies. And there's enough people already here doing that just 'cause I'm home, I don't need any more.
...

350  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 18 December 2008, 03:02:51
I think Final Fantasy, like many other things, was ruined by an explosion of fans.

Before Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy fans where just general RPG loving folk.
When Final Fantasy VII hit, there was a massive influx of fans.
It remained that way for awhile.
Suddenly people started to realize that lots of people liked FFVII, and decided that they no longer did.

I actually know someone who dislikes it purely because so many people like it.

That's easily one of the most retarded reasons to dislike something that I can think of.

I still really enjoy FFVII. I don't give a damn who does or who doesn't. It certainly isn't the end-all-be-all of RPGs, but it's still pretty damn good.
