I hope your expectations are set pretty low.

A real pair of night vision goggles cost anywhere from $500 to $5,000.
There's no way Activision loves you that much.

At best this will end up being a charge-coupled device with a couple infrared LEDs.
102  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The Interesting Stuff thread! on: 3 October 2009, 07:43:34
That theory would require there to be some sort of benefit to the tree, or it doesn't make sense. Trees aren't altruistic.
103  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 30 September 2009, 20:55:57
Pretty much. I eventually took to calling it Kingdom Hearts 179.

Surprisingly few people got it.
104  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 30 September 2009, 17:50:22
This console generation killed them.
105  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 30 September 2009, 16:29:46
Agreed.

We were supposed to push for preorders for it at one point, which was hard to do when you have no idea how to pronounce the games title.
106  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 30 September 2009, 16:27:39
Turning that on would rip the fabric of timespace.
107  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 30 September 2009, 16:06:43
I stand by what I said. Street Fighter has been doing this forever, and I've never considered each revision a whole new game. It was bull##### then and it's bull##### now.
108  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 30 September 2009, 02:36:51
I've been rocking Katamari Forever as well. I think of it more as a "best of" run for the series, which works out well for me, since I no longer have the originals.

Roboking is emo
109  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 29 September 2009, 16:38:35
Smells like bull##### to me.
110  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 29 September 2009, 16:33:14
I'm assuming Roomhates is a television show?
111  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: Show your Music! on: 29 September 2009, 16:30:51
The new Brother Ali album is up to par with his last two full length releases.

That said, I really wish folks from RhymeSayers would stop trying to sing.

I can't wait for "Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez" comes out.

Edit: The Katamari Forever soundtrack has some real gems in it. The strength of "Galactic S-O-U-L" alone was enough to send me off looking for the OST.
112  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 29 September 2009, 16:28:27
Right now it seems like Claire is going to get straight A's for the year.

Least favorite myth ever.
113  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 29 September 2009, 16:06:42
This ##### had better come out as DLC eventually, cause I'm NOT buying the same Street Fighter game multiple times.

This isn't the #####ing 90's
114  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 29 September 2009, 04:12:46
God damn it.
115  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Street Fighter IV on: 28 September 2009, 20:36:12
I wish they'd put DeeJay in. Not so much because I want to play as him, I'm just interested in seeing his SFIV makeover.
116  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 28 September 2009, 05:04:21
CAN YOU DIG IT?!
117  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The Interesting Stuff thread! on: 25 September 2009, 20:41:21
I love how happy that kid was that he had stabbed the dude in the chest with a samurai sword.
118  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 24 September 2009, 05:53:44
Book+Show > Show > Book

Update: *laughs* It's like Heroes and Carnivàle had a baby, and all the punnett squares resulted in the inheritance of Heroesretardation, to varying degrees.
119  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 24 September 2009, 03:56:05
There's only one talented musician in Tenacious D.

Hint: It isn't Jack Black.
120  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 23 September 2009, 22:25:53
The detached nature of the books is part of why I enjoy them. It reminds me of Bret Easton Ellis.

As far as who handles the franchise better, I really think they should work as a team. The first season was astonishing, and was largely an improvement upon the source material, particularly in the realms of timing and closure. I liked the story of the second book more than that of the second season, but longed for the polish that the television series could have brought to it. So on and so forth. Long story short, I feel as though the series is at its strongest when the teams collaborate.

I guess I didn't have so much of a problem with the supernatural element of the third book because the first two went to such lengths to anthropomorphize his 'Dark Passenger'. To me it simply felt as though the same tone that had been nuanced earlier in the series was just being more directly addressed.

The accidental proposal was an infinitely better set up, by the way.
121  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 23 September 2009, 19:41:56
Is it just me, or is Dexter significantly more human in the television series than in the books?
122  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 23 September 2009, 19:38:11
I find his general persona to be more irritating than amusing, and with his usually heavy handed delivery only compounds his sins.

He's like an intermediary step between Will Ferrel and Dane Cook; neither of whom I care for.

Also, Brutal Legend is only perpetuating the myth that Jack Black is metal.
123  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 21 September 2009, 21:48:02
I hate Jack Black with the fire of one thousand suns, but having played the demo, I'm willing to forgive his previous transgressions.
The skill of Tim Schafer overpowers the suck of just about anything else.
124  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 20 September 2009, 14:27:33
I actually have to agree with Sano on this (or at least part of this), and say that while I like both bands (Queen>Daft Punk in terms of craft. I don't blame the band for being overplayed.) the fusion of the two is gross.

I want to reiterate that I like Daft Punk but, that said, I can think of so many other DJs who I'd rather see doing this game.
125  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 18 September 2009, 06:46:01
I like Zelda II, but that really wasn't the case till I played it on the Gamecube. Dunno why.

Brutal Legend demo is available to those who pre-order from GameStop.

I am no longer worried about my money going to waste. I'm pumped for next month.
126  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Video share topic on: 16 September 2009, 19:29:14
A Snippet from the anime Colorful. I love this show. NSFW.

Not sure what to say...
127  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Upcoming Games Topic on: 16 September 2009, 19:19:31
And the sailing. Don't forget the sailing.

The art style would have been fine would it have been something other than a Zelda game.
128  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 10 September 2009, 01:50:26
I just finished Repo! The Genetic Opera.

It was obviously a labor of love.

It was also #####ing terrible.
129  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 10 September 2009, 01:39:19
I'm honestly more interested in watching that game being played than actually playing it myself.

On that note, I'm really enjoying Muramasa.
130  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: Show your Music! on: 5 September 2009, 00:06:12
Aceyalone's been groovin me out lately

I love the stuff he did with Haiku D'Etat. I just wish there was more of it.
131  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 3 September 2009, 00:57:22
But enough talk! HAVE AT YOU!
132  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 31 August 2009, 20:01:41
Burton-esque is far less offensive than Angsty Pretension, which is the term I would have used.

There are certainly visual and thematic correlations between all aforementioned films (to varying degrees) and it's silly to say otherwise.
133  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: Matricians: What are you watching? on: 26 August 2009, 19:45:52
That sounds like a show worth watching!
*rolls eyes*
134  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 26 August 2009, 03:59:27
##### yeah! I forgot to pick that up myself. When my financial aid surplus comes in a few weeks, I'll snag it and relive all that wonderful Prime goodness.
135  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 26 August 2009, 02:15:31
More than minor spoilers:
What I really thought was impressive was the way the movie handled all the facets of death. Much like in real life, people who die are quickly absolved of their sins, particularly when those survived by them have some sense of guilt regarding the circumstance. I've always been mystified by that kind of #####, and I felt it was well handled here.

The weight of what he's done so clearly hangs around his neck like some sort of leaden albatross that everything he does almost feels slowed. The fact that he must suffer alone adds to the bitterness, and the risk of exposure never seems entirely out of view.

The irony of the sons death benefiting not just his father but everyone else was delicious. Would the father not have done what he did, his son's life would have remained inconsequential, save for any major personality shifts. This is made that much more Pyrrhic by the fact that his one friendship was a fantastic example of how little something like that really matters so long as you're true to yourself, which ends up being the movies ultimate moral. The symbolic baptism/rebirth scene at the end was pretty poetic as well.

It seriously blows my mind that this was written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait. I never would have thought he had it in him.
136  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 25 August 2009, 23:59:48
I just got finished watching World's Greatest Dad.

While it wasn't as funny as I was hoping/expecting, it was still an excellent movie.
There was an incredibly sharp yet understated social critique at the heart of the film, and the symbolism it used was fantastic.

I'm afraid, however, that it's going to be one of those movies that never receives the kind of recognition it has coming to it.

Interestingly enough, the trailer for it isn't a fair representation of what the movie is about.

ROFL
138  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 24 August 2009, 16:33:34
Mark Hamill is dead-on through the whole thing.

It wasn't a terribly long game, but it was still quite enjoyable.

I'm a bit sad that we didn't get more of The Riddler than we did, but at this point that just seems like nitpicking.
139  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 24 August 2009, 04:06:46
Arkham Asylum is the first good Batman game.

It has it's shortcomings, but overall it's a damn fun game.
140  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: PS3 Slim and Price cut. on: 20 August 2009, 02:36:57
It's unfair to judge the console iterations of Ratchet and Clank based on their PSP incarnations.

And yes, Disgaea is an acquired taste. Leveling becomes significantly easier when you learn how to correctly utilize the systems in the game, and even easier still once you break the level 1,000 barrier. The primary reason I enjoy them so much is because there is just an insane amount of content and nifty little easter eggs to discover.
141  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: PS3 Slim and Price cut. on: 19 August 2009, 21:45:56
I enjoyed Little Big Planet quite a bit.
There's plenty of trash to sort through on the user created levels, but once you learn how to find the good ones, there's some pretty impressively designed levels out there.

Just about anything Pixel Junk has put out has been made of win

Infamous was a blast. It was significantly more fun to be evil, since being good meant actively avoiding shooting pedestrians caught in the middle of erupting battles.

Disgaea 3 was pure micromanaging bliss. I've loved every Disgaea game so far, and this one has had the most content by far.

Fat Princess is really fun. Headsets are a must, but when everyone has one the game is a complete riot.

Anything by That Game Company is awesome to just zone out to.

MGS4 is everything that the final chapter of that tale should have been.

Valkyria Chronicles was a complete sleeper hit. I don't really care for RTS's but I still throughly enjoyed it.

Siren: Blood Curse is the only proper survival horror game I've played this generation.

Ratchet and Clank Future is 3-D adventure platforming at it's best, and is the standard by which I judge other games of the genre.

None of this is including games that are slated to come out that I'm looking forward to, since I can't have an opinion about something I haven't played. That said, I can think of at least eight more titles that I suspect I'll be adding to that list in the next six months.
142  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: PS3 Slim and Price cut. on: 19 August 2009, 06:09:25
When people say that the PS3 doesn't have any strong exclusives outside of MGS4, all they're really doing is showing off how little they know.
143  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Golden Sun DS on: 10 August 2009, 04:48:14
It was also a time of higher standards.

They were certainly good games, but

.Isaac can totally kick megaman and sonic's asses.

is just flagrantly untrue.
145  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 8 August 2009, 08:27:09
I dug Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars, but I completely skipped over Lego Indy.
Indy just didn't have as many cool characters.

I don't think anything will ever touch Star Wars though. The idea of being able to manipulate multiple objects at once with your mind alone is a premise that lends itself incredibly well to Legos.
It's just not as neat when your guy bends over and throws the pieces.
146  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 7 August 2009, 18:08:54
I couldn't tell if it was going to be mindless-action-awesome or downright trash.

Those are usually synonyms.

As for Moon, I suspect it will end up being the same story as Brick. I want to see it, but it likely won't end up happening till it comes out on DVD. Oh well, I'm a patient man.
147  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 7 August 2009, 13:16:24
Moon was no longer showing at the theatre I was near.

I'm having an awfully hard time finding anywhere that's playing it.

KoFXII is painfully pared down when compared to its progenitors.

Though the clock tower stage in World 5 could give any Castlevania clock tower stage a run for it's money.

Those are some bold words.
