I haven't watched Friends pretty much since it first aired, so I can't totally comment on it, but when you talk about how they expected you to remember certain bits of information, I can't help but wonder if that was because EVERYONE was watching the show at the time. If you remember, Friends and Seinfeld were ratings powerhouses, with the cast of Friends getting $1 million an episode, and the cast of Seinfeld would have been paid a stupid amount of money had they done another season. Would they have had to rely on recapping otherwise?

I watched CHiPS. Went in with low expectations because it was universally hated, but I really dug it. Not great, but there were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments for me, and it was fun. I'd be down for a sequel, but the disastrous box office ensures there won't be.

TLJ was pretty great, but I'm going to need to see it again to absorb everything. Disappointed I never got around to seeing it in IMAX 3D, but it has hit the cheap seats, so maybe I can see it multiple times?
My wife and I saw Justice League, and while it wasn't great, it was a lot of fun. It throws a lot of stuff at you with only a couple of chances to breathe once things start moving, but that's possibly because Warner Brothers was adamant to keeping the film under two hours. There were only a couple of scenes that felt like they were Joss Whedon's touch, so I'm curious what all he added or reshot. It still wasn't the most coherent movie, but it was a fun ride. I'm a little disappointed that we don't have an extended or director's cut, but of course that may come a few years down the road. Not sure IMAX or 3D would've added anything. I'm stoked for the rest of the DCEU movies.
Watched an Australian drama called John Doe: Vigilante, which was like Anonymous (the group back when they were SJWs), Boondock Saints, and Jigsaw from Saw mashed together. It was interesting enough, with the main character breaking the fourth wall a few times during the end. What I find really odd is that the movie's website is long gone, but the Facebook page for it is still updating. They haven't discussed the movie since 2014, but it regularly updates with social justice stories in a "You need to get pissed about this and do something!" kind of way. I'm really curious who's running the page.

My wife and I don't watch a lot of TV, mainly because we are cord-cutters. There isn't a lot I'm into because it always feels like they cancel everything I get hooked on. Anyway, this fall we decided to make "The Orville" our show that we'd absolutely watch together, and despite a shaky pilot, the show is great fun and definitely found its footing before the end of the first season. It isn't as simple as "Seth MacFarlene doing TNG cosplay" as some people want to write it off; the characters definitely feel more human and average joes on a spaceship who occasionally ##### up.
We also got into "The Marvelous Mrs Maisel" on Amazon, which is by the creator/writer of The Gilmore Girls. It's about a housewife in 1950s NYC who discovers that she is a pretty good comedian, but she has to keep it under wraps from her family while navigating a crappy divorce. I highly recommend it; the dialogue is sharp and it's a good introduction to 1950s comedy if you've never had a chance to check it out.
This fall we are looking forward to Black Lightning and 9-1-1.

I totally forgot to talk about one aspect of me finally getting an Xbox One. Wife told me to see what stuff in the basement I'd be willing to sell to get the Xbox One. Put together a bunch of limited/collector's editions that I didn't really care about anymore and the Virtual Boy headset that I'd found in the trash when my old neighbors moved out. Took everything to the local independent video game store, and all said and done, the offered me $120 for what they were willing to buy, a bulk of it coming from the Virtual Boy headset (they'd use it for parts). Honestly, I expected to get $50, tops, and that's if they were generous. Plus a friend of mine from elementary school offered to buy some of the other CE/LE stuff for another $50. So we didn't even have to dip into the anniversary money, the Xbox One was paid for just on me selling video game ##### that I didn't want anymore!

So after Christmas, Target had a crazy-ass deal on 500 GB Xbox Ones - after all of the discounts it came to $160. I've been trying to get one for a while, and my wife told me that she'd be willing to put some of our anniversary money towards getting one because my copy of Mass Effect: Andromeda has been sitting there since it arrived and I got super excited about Mega Man 11. Like, tears in my eyes excited because my son will be old enough to try the game with me when it arrives later this year.
ANYWAY, I went with the Minecraft one because that's all that they had left. I've already filled up the harddrive with my games that I've received through the Games with Gold program, plus a couple of other things. Right now I've been mostly playing Mass Effect: Andromeda, but I also dabbled in Disney Infinity because my buddy and I scored a ton of this ##### for dirt cheap right as it was being announced that the game was going under.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is pretty fun, but you can tell where development just grinded to a halt with the game. The dialogue is fairly crappy at points and occasionally the animation sucks, but I'm enjoying it.
Disney Infinity 3.0 isn't that bad (I like the sculpt for the Han Solo figurine btw), but with the online servers being off there isn't a lot to do. Thankfully I got my hands on some of the Star Wars packs, but the Battle of Hoth section is killing me so far.

CoD is ALWAYS an "avoid". You don't need to tell us that. But we appreciate it none the less.
This was about five years ago, but I took a marketing survey about how I played Call of Duty, and one of the situations they asked about was about releasing the single-player campaign as a standalone download for $20. I was really enthusiastic about it, because I couldn't give a ##### about multiplayer, but they never bothered doing it. Disappointed by that, really.

So as you guys may know, I do reviews for video games for my friend's podcast, The SML Podcast. Each episode is long as hell, but it's pretty fun. Anyway, occasionally he is given a movie to review - last one they did was Need For Speed, if that gives you an idea. I was given this independent look at the Call of Duty franchise called CODumentary, which got a physical media release as well as Steam, iTunes, and I think Amazon.
It's just not very good. It's one-sided, a lot of talking heads, you don't really learn anything unless you know absolutely nothing about the series, and the last thirty minutes is about how COD is God's gift to eSports and focuses on a bunch of players who we aren't given reasons to give a ##### about them. It's just plain bad, and worse there were three storylines that they could've followed that would've been infinitely more interesting (even if it meant we got three short documentaries!), but drop them as side notes. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Killed five people at once in a helicopter mission. I beat the game. The airplane mission after the game is done is more fun than most of the game. I don't see any reason to return to this unless a friend wants to do co-op. Is there a co-op mode? Back into the box this goes.

I watched the trailer yesterday and I wasn't impressed. As you said, Marvel movies are all becoming the same to the point where Captain America: Civil War was boring (which makes me sad because it should've knocked it out of the park). I liked Doctor Strange but trippy visuals aside, it felt like Iron Man. The only deviation that seems to be allowed is GotG.

I really enjoyed Batman v Superman. I thought it was a lot of fun, although if you go in there hoping for Batman and Superman to be duking it out for most of the movie, you'll be disappointed. Only other film I've completed lately is Trainwreck with Amy Schumer. I thought it was okay, but it fell into the generic rom-com crap at the end. Worth a watch and I'm glad I got it for free, but I don't know if I'll ever feel the need to watch it again. Posted on: April 09, 2016, 09:07:38 PM
So I've been watching a lot of documentaries as of late because my younger son gets really upset over people raising their voices angrily or shouting, so pretty much all action, drama, and comedy films are right out the window. We are currently watching The September Issue, which is about the American office of Vogue magazine trying to get their fall fashion issue ready, as it's the biggest #####ing thing in the fashion industry. It's really well done, and as all good documentaries do, it teaches you quite a bit about the subject.

Started playing COD4: MW because I never actually finished the game after first starting it back in 2008. 9 years later, earned an achievement. Not really a fan of the game, so I'm pretty sure I'll be trading it in at some point.

Playing the anniversary edition of Halo is bizarre, as I have to keep switching between the original and new graphics because I keep getting lost. Once I find my way, I switch back to the new graphics.
I also have Game Dev Tycoon and Catan Stories to review for my friend's podcast.

Over the summer before my son was born, my wife and I watched all of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I really enjoyed the show; it was far more mature than I was expecting. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed, but it was a great show and I'm looking forward to watching the sequel show eventually.

My wife and I have made "The Orville" the show that we watch together. It's still trying to find its groove, but I appreciate that MacFarlane is willing to have endings that Star Trek (except maybe DS9) wouldn't have tried, and it shows the crew being average people. I love the hell out of it, and I feel like I'm 11 years old again, watching Voyager as it aired. If they had a toy version of the Orville, I'd be playing with it during commercial breaks like I played with my Star Trek toys while watching DS9 and Voyager.
She's made me start watching Stranger Things. I saw the first episode of the first season; it definitely caught my attention.
I've also seen the first episode of Inhumans. I dug it, although I expect it to be canceled by May.

I'm with Rez on this one. I'm surprised the Mega Man comics' sales weren't that great. I used to work at a comic book store, and we easily sold out of every issue as soon as they came out (plenty of people with it on their pull lists, plus 20-30 issues extra). It stayed that way until the end of the series.

The only thing that Fox learned is that audiences will go see an R-rated film based on a comic book. Everything else is ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
I just saw Gods of Egypt, which was not a particularly good film, but highly entertaining. The concept itself is ridiculous and it took me about half of the film to buy into it, but once you do, it was a very fun ride. The acting is mostly terrible, with Gerard Butler pretty much carrying the film by himself. The 3D was gorgeous. I'd be up for watching it again.

Oh, definitely. While the all-CGI thing was an interesting experiment, it did royally screw the movies. Meanwhile, the new movie just looked fantastic and real. Posted on: December 28, 2015, 08:49:37 PM
I saw Spectre and Deadpool. Spectre was a good Bond movie, but they completely wasted the character of Mr. Hinx, and John Logan needs to drop the father/son issues in his writing. The dude literally can't write a movie without parental issues in it. Not every #####ing movie is going to be a Greek tragedy. Deadpool was excellent. Well done and funny as hell.

I got to play Star Wars: Battlefront at my friend's house. Fun, but there's no way in hell I'm paying more than $30 for this thing (and I'm talking the complete version with all DLC) brand-new.
Deadpool was fun. Got through the first chapter or two.
Rocket Narwhal is a #####load of fun if you've got 3 other people playing with you. Fast, frantic action that is very simple and easy to pick up. Definitely recommend it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a lot of fun and a good movie. The first 10-15 minutes of the film felt very disjointed, almost like Disney stepped in and was like "JJ, you're directing a Star Wars film, not one of your Star Trek reboots. Calm your tits." Rest of it was great. Probably going to see it again for my anniversary.
