Some of that is more or less what I expected you to say, and they're things that I agree with you on. The lack of backstory stuff though, that's especially frustrating. I don't see why they would actively avoid it. That is the exact kind of world building that the early series games were so great for. It also lends more horror to the game, as manipulating the player on a psychological level is so much richer than just the scares of fighting a licker in a hallway.

I think that's the same with Claire and Leon interacting. Without that the player isn't forced to think about what ELSE is going on in the city.

In the few gameplay videos I've seen I did notice the extra darkness. I don't know if I'm a fan of that or not but I had been worried that newfangled control schemes would make the game less scary so when I saw that I was at least pleased that they tried to get around that. But I've always loved the tank controls  and fixed camera angles of the old games because--going back to manipulating the player's emotions--it took a sense of power away from the player and added some scary.

In the videos I watched, I also noticed the zombies essentially being bullet sponges. I didn't the rest of what you mentioned, so that's crazy. Location should absolutely matter, everyone I've seen play the game goes for the head and some people miss a lot, so they're basically just wasting precious ammo. That's very silly.

It's the little things that matter.

The original RE2 is my favourite in the series. I haven't played the remake but from what I've seen it looks great, though it's a totally different experience. What are the things you thought were missing for the remake? Is it more, like, the mechanics of the original?
203  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 12 February 2019, 14:35:10
Yooooo! I hope that goes well. Can I ask what your early signs were? I do a lot of power lifting and have hurt my back a few times, I know how debilitating that can be. My back pain always goes away after a while but it can come back if I'm not careful (just aggravated it a bit this weekend). I've actually wondered if the first time I hurt it I caused a bulging disc, or if it's just muscular. I get some pain in other areas that sounds similar, especially sciatica which I get sometimes while driving.

Really, health care is comparatively cheap here so I just get it looked at but it'd be interesting to hear your story.
204  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 12 February 2019, 14:28:10
Seriously! :D

Honestly I feel I owe part of that to MMM, this was a place I really enjoyed posting art and learning back when I started getting serious about it.

i've always wanted to make cartoons, mostly because i have tons of ideas and i feel like animation is the only way to get them quite right and it just seems so fun judging by the creativity shown by some cartoons right now, and from the boring unimaginative slop calling themselves shows, i get the feeling no one involved is enjoying making it

It's a balance but you should definitely try it! If you have questions let me know anytime.
205  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 8 February 2019, 14:47:10
I would love to work at Disney land tbh, but I actually work on television cartoons; 90% of my work has been Disney TV shows for the past 8.5 years.
206  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 7 February 2019, 16:34:28
Disney pays my bills so I can't grow out of the nostalgia but I've never really been able to get into Kingdom Hearts. I thought the first game was alright but I can't understand what makes people feverish over the series. That said, I can't understand the appeal around Final Fantasy (after FF6), so I know it's just all not-for-me.

Personally I think it would actually be stronger as a series if it was less about Square and more Disney, which I'm sure is a hot take.
207  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 7 February 2019, 16:31:18
They're only over because Capcom decided to end it.  They could make new Mega Man games.

You misunderstand, I said the halcyon days are over. They could make easily new Mega Man games, but not necessarily good ones, or even ones that are remotely interesting. The golden era is long gone. Every new classic game (and by extension future X games) is just a lacklustre re-hash. MM9 and MM11 were ok but still don't capture anyone like Mega Man 1-7.

It's not even a case where the industry has moved on or there is lack of interest. These types of games still have a market, albeit much smaller, as evidenced by the indie game world and the amount of money that individuals will pour into a Kistarter project for a WORSE LOOKING side-scroller action platformer. It's just a complete fumble on Capcom's part.

Would it be wrong to say that the reason why Mega Man had fizzled out was because of over saturation of games (Battle Network/Zero/ZX/Star Force/)  I think people were betting burned out with Mega Man.

You're half-right. Megaman didn't fizzle out because of the amount of different series, but it WAS that they shelled out so many games with such low quality. BN and MMZ were arguably very successful in their beginnings, but dropped off as the games became samey and cheaply produced (BN4 being an incredibly example of how lazily made a game can be). Star Force and ZX were just extensions of that trend, which is why they weren't nearly as popular. And that's all after or around the same time that the X series pooped the bed.

You could argue that maybe if they had less series altogether they could focus on more quality games in each, but I think it's obvious that Capcom was mainly focused on shovelling out as much MM as possible back then, since they did not take their time AT ALL with any series regardless. From 2000 to 2005, SEVEN non-remake/re-release Megaman X games were released... And the best of them was #####ing Megaman Xtreme. If you don't count those GBC games then I guess the best was X5? That is ultimately pathetic.
208  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 5 February 2019, 18:41:12
True true true true.

I think for me I just want them to stop messing around with the beloved series of the past. I wouldn't mind something totally new instead of mediocre iterations that only remind me the halcyon days of Mega Man are over.
209  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 5 February 2019, 18:39:23
Honestly I loved Falcon Armor in X5.
X6 eats dix.

The X8 ultimate armor is definitely bad but I don't even think the large front plate/collar is the main issue (though it's not ideal). The whole design methodology behind it is just... it's something that would fit in Battle Network than X. But by then we knew the design bible was going out the window with MMZ.
210  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 5 February 2019, 18:33:58
I don't see how Mega Man 11 having strong sales automatically equals Megaman X9 being made rather than MM12 or nothing at all.

Regardless, I don't think the prospect of X9 is at all cause for celebration and I really couldn't give a ##### less how much money Capcom or any corporation makes. Make good games, end of story. I don't know how you find a way to get hyped over Capcom's sales figures, Xero, but bless you. Your positivity knows no bounds.

They may be but the idea that most people have grandkids by 50 though...

It happens, but 50 isn't THAT old haha

No, limited runs don't help, and make a bad precedent.  It just pushes prices up unnecessarily and encourages scalpers.  I will say of Limited Run Games specifiically, they're going the right direction with doing open preorders not specific number runs for their Switch stuff.  But ideally it would all be normal retail with numbers that make scalping unprofitable.

TOTALLY agree.
213  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 29 January 2019, 15:42:58
Hyper Light Drifter actually got a retail release, I know because I have it.

Not on Switch. Regardless, extremely limited runs don't help.
214  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 24 January 2019, 13:29:53
For me it's not about the price, if there's a game I really want that is digital-only like Hyper Light Drifter or Floor Kids, then that's it. I'll take physical over digital every time but I rarely just miss out completely on what I want just because of that.

If I'm being honest it's a small percentage of my physical games that I would actually boot up again years down the road, but it's still nice to have.
215  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 18 January 2019, 13:59:18
It's definitely inevitable as much as I hate it.

Or someone comes along and makes a normal console and sells you the physical games.  There will ALWAYS be a market for that.  If that means it doesn't have the "big name" games, so be it.

Obviously. But that's really neither here nor there since we weren't talking about the smaller markets in the first place.
216  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 17 January 2019, 17:52:46
I'll start this with saying I don't particularly like the digital for games. With movies and television I don't mind at all, but for games it's a totally different ballpark. I buy 99% of my games as physical releases.

However, most analysts can see pretty clearly that we are moving towards a Netflix-style streaming service for gaming. So that's not just the lack of owning a physical copy, it's also not even owning the DIGITAL copy. And it's exactly what Microsoft is already working on. In countries with better internet (aka not North America) it's already perfectly viable to stream games; We saw it with RE7 (a relatively unpopular game in Asia) being released as a streaming game to Switch in Japan.

This is also a logical evolution path of things like Games With Gold, PSPlus, etc., where you have games ONLY on the condition that you are a member of a monthly service. For now though, those games do have to actually be downloaded to a drive--Moving forward that may not even be an issue.

What you will begin to see is the "XBox [iteration]" and "PlayStation [iteration]" being released, but basically they will simply be specialized PCs that run games better and better each year off of a proprietary streaming architecture (ex: "The PS store"). It's like upgrading your TV, once you get one that's 4k you can WATCH in 4k, without actually having to change your Netflix service. Similarly, if I went out and bought a PS4 Pro the games I already own would be enhanced.

I don't like it, but as console releases get increasingly iterative and streaming becomes simpler simpler I have no doubt we will hit a singularity and the concept of truly owning a game will be gone for good.

That is... until some new unpredictable technology comes in and shifts the paradigm so far this theory becomes outdated.

Oh yeah I loved the comic, and I don't care that it was different. Was just saying it leaves it more open this way. What I DON'T like is people who clearly never read the comics saying the movie was "pretty close" to them with some authority they don't have, but that might just be my workplace.
I think in this universe Doc Ock is meant to be more of a multi-hyphenate all around science-person, so she's into all avenues, and just gets hired by The Kingpin to do research for his selfish plan.
218  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 9 January 2019, 14:18:48
Those two (and Miles) are my favourite Spideys for sure. I loved the comic Spider-Verse storyline but it wouldn't work well as a movie at all really, though I think you could adapt some of it for the sequel like the entire hunt thing.

I think this version of Miles is different enough from the comics one you could even have the comic version show up as a cameo, since it's the Spider-VERSE after all.
219  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 8 January 2019, 16:57:33
I have some friends that worked on it, pretty proud of them. I've been a Miles Morales fan for years now, and I was pretty happy with the film. The conceit that it's all about multiple universes is great because you don't have to have that "well in the books THIS was different" thing.
220  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: NEW Mega Man cartoon coming in 2017 on: 30 December 2018, 05:17:23
Nothing the show does is worth caring about, they have Wily as Mega Man’s childhood friend. Who knows, maybe Mega Man will turn him around and as a good guy he’ll be “Proto Man”. I expected him to look more like Bass than that, maybe once this one is tamed Namagem 2.0 will actually be Bass.

Cute idea of him being named “Megaman” backwards though.
221  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 20 December 2018, 13:59:18
Enchancing X before that fight sort of proves my point that they want you to come with a strong spirit for some of the stages no matter what.

I don't have X as a spirit yet unfortunately, but I was able to get through Jeff's spirit battle somehow (I'm sure a Franklin Badge was involved). I need to play a lot more.

A lot of them are fun but there a few that are just aggravating or designed really poorly, even after having really good spirits, though it might be just be me since I'm not too great at Smash...

Nah, I totally agree. Some of them are really fun and then they through you ones that are broken under the guise of "challenging". The thing is that something challenging is a lot of fun if you're only losing because of skill (like a Dark Souls game) instead of just cheapness. I like this game mode but there are some stages that are just bad.
222  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 19 December 2018, 20:58:56
And that's the thing too, everyone takes their own path through the map so certain fights are more challenging to different people. The one I'm having trouble with right now is the poison floor timed stamina battle with Zero suit Samus (who gains defence once at medium health). It has about 6000 more power than my max spirits. But just because of the path I took, I was able to power through those ones Teelio mentioned. I don't think I have a lifeheal spirit yet, I should take a look!
223  MegaMan Series / Zero Series / Re: MMZ opinion war on: 19 December 2018, 19:24:34
It would be pretty fun to try and draw Zero's more common design with that art style.

... maybe after the holidays.
224  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 19 December 2018, 19:23:00
Yeah... That would only stand to reason in levels with normal parameters or even just a single buffed enemy, but overall you're missing (or skipping) the point of what I'm saying. There are some fights where you have 4 buffed opponents that are on a team and you can't even really damage them unless your spirits are strong enough, and obviously that's what I'm talking about.

I've always been very good at this series, and have been able to power through every challenge in this game mode through trial and error but the game is clearly designed to have you return to those stages when you're stronger. That's just a fact.
225  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 18 December 2018, 13:32:45
To be honest I basically play most of them until I win, but that's not really how you're meant to do it. It's clear that if you're fighting something with a power of 13000 and you can only muster up 8000 that you should really come back later.
226  MegaMan Series / Zero Series / Re: MMZ opinion war on: 17 December 2018, 20:28:02
Generic anime has harder lines and sharper points. I don't actually think the art style is bad in general, just the actual DESIGNS they used for established characters. You can use MMZ art style with Zero's original design pretty easily and make a good looking game.

Hm, maybe. You wouldn't want to say that around a Fallout purist. New Vegas has the better wasteland, but the city itself is very far from what Fallout is typically like. The Bethesda games never really captured the charm of the originals, plus the Creation Engine is just as crummy as Gamebryo, since it was based on it.

Nah.

What do you think of it? Does it feel dated at all being an 8 year-old game? I guess it's not like Fallout 4 really changed much of the formula from New Vegas though.
232  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 11 December 2018, 14:43:06
I don't find any of the 1v1 fights that troubling. I like to think I'm a pretty good Smash Bros. player but some of the World of Light fights are insane. Sometimes the challenge equates to a ton of fun but there's a few where they're just cheaping you out. Overall I'm really liking things, though I'm nowhere near unlocking all the characters yet (been having an issue transferring from one microSD card to another so I haven't been playing much Switch)

I've been playing LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, which is okay. The levels are just long enough to start feeling tedious.

I found that one very disappointing. I liked the free roam aspect but in the end most of the characters ended up useless and boring. In general I think the Lego games fell off when they added in voice acting. If you look at the earlier games like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, for example:

The gameplay was more simplistic but overall more enjoyable because it didn't drag on. The cutscenes were genuinely funny because they found ways to tell these beloved stories in a kid-friendly way without any dialogue and you needed to have seen the original movie to understand it.

Unfortunately I think the last one I truly enjoyed was Lego Batman 1, even though I keep buying these games. I used to love going back through the levels to collect everything with my custom character, but the new ones don't make that fun to do at all.
233  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: NEW Mega Man cartoon coming in 2017 on: 11 December 2018, 14:35:24
I think I wasted 30 seconds of my life reading a wall of text.

I get what you're saying, but it's best to keep it close to the game source material.  Maybe even adapt the Megamix/Gigamix arcs.

Give the kid a break, he's trying when a lot of people aren't. At the very least it's closer to the source material than the current show XD

And as Majikn said, it's not like directly copying the games' plot, which is so thin it's nearly transparent, is a simple task. Unless you want a bland show with no character development, but I don't.

I ignored it until now, just watched the first four episodes.

Honestly, I tried to have an open mind after the comments but the first one did NOT do it for me. I think I'd feel the same even if it wasn't "Mega Man". It's just kinda generic to me, whereas I think they could have taken their vision of the schoolboy-robot to more unique and interesting places. To some extent, I think an adaptation of the ZX series concepts would fair better at the "kid going to school but is also Mega Man" balance.

But it did eventually start to show promise, it's overall better than I expected.

However... Mega-Mini feels totally unnecessary. As dies "Bert Wily". Also I wish they actually used sprites in a style that's at least vaguely similar to the original games, but for whatever reason they went with something a little more akin to "budget 2018 indie game" instead.

I wonder if I know anyone who worked on it, the DHX Studios are up here so I know some people that have gone to work there before. I believe the parent company DHX Media has had some financial trouble recently, so we'll see if it impacts MMFC ("MMFC" sounds like a rad soccer team).

I do agree with Rez though, them knowing better kinda makes things worse. It's just... weird. It's a weird adaptation in every way.
