Amazing. My favourite part, from an engineering perspective anyway, is the unorthodox pitch-bend approach (although as far as the rest of the features go, most of them can admittedly be approached rather closely by any modern keyboard)

I don't think the challenge is the big thing with most people here. I know I love extremely difficult games for the most part, but couldn't stand mmz mostly due to the stupid metroidvania-esque map layout and the anorexic art style. And the music was less than inspiring as well. Most of the real problems are due to it not really being a mega man series to begin with.

Did some touch-up work on the Ocean Depths MIDI and gave it new life in the form of SoundFonts and a "proper" title. Submerged City with a Side of FriesPosted on: February 25, 2010, 11:46:53 PM
Herp derp de derp updates. A goal of mine over the summer is to learn how to take full advantage of the Yamaha XG MIDI softsynth I have on my computer. Here's the first fruit of that labour: Mega Man X - Fortress Stage 1: MP3 | MIDI (balanced for S-YXG50, will sound okay but not great on MSGS) Also, nintendo file: Zero Wing - Stage 2: MP3 | NSFAnd an original I composed for a sample-pack contest (you're given sounds and told to make music with them): HIS POWER IS MAXIMUMPlaced 27th out of 40, certainly higher than I expected (although of course not BROLY TIER).

Not really.
Then again, maybe something's wrong with both of us.
Ended up just streaming it anyway. There was a lot of cringe fuel but not as much as I was expecting, and in general it was very well done. Still trying to wrestle the temporary file onto my computer to get a more permanent version (can't copy/rename it while the browser is open, but it deletes itself when I close the tab)
EDIT: I thought vimeo would have moved to a newer container than AVI by now. Oh well, the file is safe and sound now.

Like I said, the leading roles were the worst-acted. Other than that, the acting was decent, and the guy who did the subway ghost (#####, he's been in tons of movies but I can't remember his name to save my life) should have gotten an Oscar. I think Goldberg got a supporting-actress nomination, at least, which was also well-deserved. Still, there's no real reason for it to be on my top 30 or 40 movies OF ALL TIME, yet there it is somehow. Maybe it's one of those odd pieces that surpasses the sum of its parts. EDIT: Now I know why, this is clearly the greatest moment in cinematic history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcS6gXEChbI

The age of the movie has nothing to do with it, trust me.
Ghost is one of those mostly-terrible movies that I absolutely love for no reason I could tell you (except that one guy on the subway, his performance and lines were the best in the whole film).
It was fun watching Swayze and Moore try to outdo each other's impressions of boards, though.

Seeing you guys praise the new Pokemon games nonstop for a week was enough to bring me around, so I'm now the proud owner of Heart Gold plus yet another thing to carry around in my pocket (as if I didn't already have enough of those). Going to try it out later tonight.
As is my usual practice at electronics stores, as soon as I'd secured the primary purchase I immediately tore the place apart treasure-hunting. I wasn't disappointed - found what appeared to be the store's final copy of Raiden Fighters Aces, which is a major score for a shooter fan like me.

Perfect Dark rerelease hit Live today. I've already spent like four hours on it.
The port is pretty good, although I wonder why they wouldn't add little things like configurable controls in (I've always been balls at aiming with my right thumb and was hoping to get a chance to remap the controls to Turok-style).

If you already have a PC, don't most 360 exclusives end up on the PC via Games for Windows or whatever? There are though a few 360 games I wish I could play like Nuts and Bolts and maybe Fable.
There were quite a few reasons to buy one (which is pretty lol because I remember saying there was no combination of games that could possibly interest me in a 360, but a staggering number of positive entries changed my mind gradually), but the last straw was when I heard about the Perfect Dark rerelease.

So after a few months of deliberation, I decided to pick up a 360.

I'm not about to pay for access to basic things like netplay that they should be providing for free, so I'll be staying Silver, but I'm on trial and if anyone else happens to have Raiden IV and wants to go on a quick romp I'm more than game.

More Time Attacking fun stuff: fourth on the Pump Man board with a 1:43:76 I barely tried at. I literally copied the third-place run move for move, #####ed up a couple of times and said "oh well, I'll submit anyway". Without the bad boss fight I might have actually beaten the run I was copying.

Anybody else tried some single-stage Time Attacking yet? I pounded away at Sheep Man's stage for about three hours and produced a 2:23 before taking a look at the scoreboard and finding I was fully thirteen seconds slower than andrewg (aka #####ING FAST AT MEGAMAN, he has a couple of Classic series runs on SDA last I checked). A look at his replay convinced me that I could pull off what he'd done, though, since most of the time was saved with clever use of Blade.

I didn't do much music making in the month of November, due to nanowrimo again, though I did decide to start work on a mock game soundtrack in Famitracker and have two tracks done (they're nothing like final, though, so I won't bother encoding MP3s or uploading the NSF yet) with god knows how many to go. But tonight I was struck by inspiration and decided to pay my respects to the soundtrack of a little vertical scrolling shooter called Battle Garegga. Battle Garegga - Title ScreenIt's short, but it was freaking hard to do, because there is no way to isolate any one output of the YM2151 sound chip through any means I know. Posted on: December 01, 2009, 02:50:40 AM
'FOR GREAT JUSTICE' FOR GREAT JUSTICE. Zero Wing isn't anything like the best shooter ever, but it's fine, and so is the soundtrack. A sample, recently sequenced to NSF format: Stage 5 - Submarine Tunnel MP3 (180 BPM) | NSF (180 BPM) | NSF (150 BPM)I rendered it in both 150 and 180 BPM because neither of them is correct (the actual tempo is closer to 165 BPM). Unfortunately, that's the closest I could get while retaining the integrity of the sixteenths (because practically every 16th would come between frames and thus have to be displaced). The MP3 is recorded from the 180BPM version because that was my preference and I wasn't about to record both versions. Progress on the mock soundtrack isn't anything like spectacular. I only wrote one more piece so far, a generic-sounding fanfare for STAGE COMPLETE. Posted on: February 02, 2010, 05:02:45 PM
New file host and two more game music covers. Raiden II Stage 1: MP3Yoshi's Island Final Boss: MP3I'm not quite satisfied with the Yoshi's Island one (mostly disappointed in the guitar, but I haven't been able to find any better guitar soundfonts for the job), but it's acceptable, I suppose.

It doesn't really look like 3D, but more like "3D sprites" so far. Kinda like what Donkey Kong Country had.
But I really can't tell yet. It's just a trailer.
Pre-rendering doesn't have much use any more now that home computers can render reasonably high-poly models in real time without too much difficulty. I'd say it's much more likely that they're just using full 3D models (less work).

Achron is up for preorder; preorders allow access to regularly updated alpha builds of the game. I don't have a credit card and I just finished using my dad's a ton, so I'll be waiting a little bit, but god I can't wait for this game.

Consider Jethro Tull and/or King Crimson? I don't like King Crimson all that much, but they do a lot of harder-edged stuff you might like, and In the Court of the Crimson King is a classic. As for Tull, they're simply legendary.

In the process of realizing why people often pay money to have their PCs put together for them. Doing the wiring was a major hassle, especially since there are like five fans to steer clear of in my case. It STILL looks like a disaster, even though I did manage to get the job done.

Really? I just did another search and all I can see is the usual VPN workarounds (which is not what I'm looking for) and that stupid Youtube video with the low-grav and infinite grenades (which isn't a dedicated server, just developer console enabled again)

I'll continue to specifically avoid playing MW2 until I see evidence of a strong underground dedicated server movement. Activision won't see a cent of my money until I can play the game my way.
