It's kind of sad, but I'm almost more comfortable drawing on tegaki than in Painter or on paper now. The myriad limitations just make it more interesting... Firstly, I have drawn more boats, skies, and oceans for the Drow Love RP than I have for anything else ever. Also, does anyone else here listen to Tori Amos? Specifically her Strange Little Girls album. Been doing posts based on some of the tracks she covered in it. I'm Not in LoveStrange Little GirlHappiness is a Warm Gun'97 Bonnie and ClydeHeart of Gold ( devart) Real Men ( devart) Raining BloodI think that leaves New Age, Rattlesnakes, Time, Enjoy the Silence, and I Don't Like Mondays. Kind of stumped on what to do for those at the moment...

This is the elephant shrew, or jumping shrew, from Africa. Needless to say, I want one. "Elephant shrews vary in size from about 100 mm to almost 300 mm, from just under 50 g to over 500 g. All are quadrupedal with mouse-like tails, and rather long legs for their size, and although the size of the trunk varies from one species to another, all are able to twist it about in search of food." "Although mostly diurnal and very active, they are difficult to trap and very seldom seen: elephant shrews are wary, well camouflaged, and adept at dashing away from threats. Several species make a series of cleared pathways through the undergrowth and spend their day patrolling them for insect life: if disturbed, the pathway provides an obstacle-free escape route."

What happens is a program detects LJs that have recently updated, checks if the account has an AIM in their profile, and then connects two people together in a conversation. Neither see the other person's real screenname, just something like PercolatedSalmon. It always begins with some pre-set message that can be topical or funny or spooky or stupid. It's confusing and unsettling at first, and you don't have to talk to the other person, but it's kinda neat if you just roll with it and talk. I'm not sure if the program blocks you from being able to send your real screenname or LJ username, or a link to themissinghat community.

I just got salmon'd! It's the fourth time this has happened. The first couple of times I just got rude comments back (understandable), but I think I managed a friendly conversation this time, which is kind of neat. It helped that I knew what the heck was happening and filled the other person in so they didn't think I was crazy. Was too tired and woozy to keep the IM going though.

I'm leery of posting death news online. Especially if it means some family member has to trawl through all the boards I go to to post them. If nothing else, so many assfaces fake deaths online for attention that that sort of behavior is suspicious now.
If I did assign someone to inform people I'm gone, it'd likely just be on my livejournal, with instructions to link to or scan my obituary (or, if it was a car crash or some accident that made the news, a link to the article). It's sad that that kind of proof is needed, but there you go.

Here we have a conflict.
Now me, personally, I'm not very afraid of death. I would like to live more, and if there's some kind of afterlife, that'd be neat, but if there isn't and my spirit or identity or soul just vanishes, well, I'm not going to be there to be pissed about it. So to me, you could say it doesn't have spiritual consequence, even though I don't worship anything.
But to say my death wouldn't have any consequence to anyone would be pretty idiotic.

I wouldn't care about house centipedes if they stayed in the dark and behind the cupboard! It's when they come scuttling across the floor or decide to come into the bathroom for a drink of water WHILE I'M SITTING ON THE TOILET that I find I have some objection.

Weiss hunting vampiresOkay, this has some background. Every time I read a comic (or story, or whatever) that has a vampiric creature kidnapping and mind-controlling people, usually beautiful women... the vampire acts like a jerk and smacks them around. It bugs me. I like charm and honor in my villains, is all. Even kidnapping ones. RealismI didn't finish the left eye. Oh well. Sin City styleFrom an IM convo: "Of course, if Drow Love was drawn in Sin City style, Autem and Arinae and Pyras would get drawn as hookers." "That would not be bad ass." Lucine the EverbrightLyrics from Hybrid's If I Survive. TiradeHoly##### actual megaman themed art in a megaman forum I KNOW HOW WEIRD. Drawn because there's a Megaman X themed RP that a couple others and I are starting, also on Tegaki, so I need to make a character that isn't really really old and cheeseball. Link is here.

Behold. Hydnora africana in full bloom. AAAARGGHH Is anyone else singing the Vagina Dentata song?I don't know too much about this flower, aside from that it's a root parasite of the Euphorbia caput-medusae. It doesn't seem to harm the host plant much, aside from making it look like a FREAKING TENTACLE BEAST. Oh, and the flower smells like crap, and is pollinated by dung beetles. GRRRR

If one of those pops up in my backyard I'm moving. I think in the Caribbean, they mark all these trees with big red X's and signs all over, so don't worry. I want to send a basket of the fruit to people I don't like, with a message that goes, "Hi, I'm sorry for past misunderstandings. Can we be friends? Here are some exotic apples. They're delicious."

Do you really want me to be rude? Because so far I've been pretty civil. I haven't even threatened to dismember you and plant your spine in a flowerpot for the cat to piss on. I'm just saying.
I don't approve of posting traced/copied pictures, without even linking back to the original. And I do think they were traced, because too many of the lines match up for it to have just been referenced. I also do not believe you are at a skill level where you can look at a picture and render it perfectly. I'm suspicious of the Ichigo Rukia pictures as well, because of the style difference.
I don't doubt there is a market for copied paintings, but I do not consider it art.
On your actual drawings? Okay. I think you rely on the three-quarter view of the head too much, and you draw hands and feet far too small. (An open hand should be big enough, fingers and all, to cover your face, and a foot is about as long as your forearm.) There doesn't seem to be definition where the arm ends and the wrist/hand begins. You also very much need to learn how to draw fingers, because even when you just draw them balled into fists, it's really obvious.

Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson? I'm flattered. Do I get to call someone sugartits and fly off in a spaceship now? Believe you me, I could easily be a lot nastier and more abrasive. I don't have many hot buttons, but this sort of thing is one of 'em. But screeching and throwing poop at things isn't civilized. I can't fathom why. Hokay, you want real advice? Here it is. Draw from observation. Photographs, things on your desk, things around you, people on the train, tangible things. If I could start over, I would have done that. Even if you want to draw anime, because (and this has been hammered at me over and over, from bloody everywhere until I was sick of hearing it, but) you need to know what a person actually looks like before you distort it into a cartoon. Check this tutorial out, as well as Tigrin's Drawing with Sincerity. I wouldn't try and read all of the first one at once, just refer to it every now and then, but definitely read through Sincerity.

Hokay kids, it's time for more weird nature. Innocent looking? It's part of a manchineel tree. Also known as manzanilla de la muerte, little apple of death. Hails from the Caribbean. Eat the fruit, your throat swells up, and you can die. The only animal immune to the poison is the blue land crab. Eat the crab after it's been nomnoming the fruit, and you get ulcers. Stand under the tree in the rain, and water trickling off the leaves will burn you with toxic latex. Cut the tree down? Sap squirts out, you get caustic burns. Burn the tree to get rid of it? The sap goes airborne. Burning lungs and blindness. You can probably handle the dry wood with your bare hands. Try not to rub your eyes, though. Anyone want an apple?

I never thought I'd ever take Sano's side in anything, but... I'm really not impressed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/yubishines/misc/yotsuba.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/yubishines/misc/amikurimoto.jpgIt took a little Google-digging, but there you go. I could find others, but... Hon, there's no shame in needing to copy to learn, but you can't call it your own or post it as if you made it. The first step is making your own stuff. The difference between copying artwork and using a photograph for reference is photorealistic artwork takes a lot of skill. Or, if you do like I do, and look for pose references, you don't eyeball the photograph and copy every strand of hair, but you use it to figure out where things go in relation to each other, the way the back curves, so on and so forth. I'm just a little disappointed that this sort of thing is happening in Matrix.
