I didn't finish Tropical Freeze on WiiU, I'm kind of wanting it on Switch now but I gotta wait for that price point to drop.

King Hippo would be cool. I don’t see how the Doom character would fit in any way.
353  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 11 July 2018, 16:03:56
I mean am I wrong?  The ways the eyes are set up in the NES sprites make it look like a white lower case W for enemies and some bosses.

I tried. I tried really hard. I tried really hard to see what you see. I tried really hard to see what you see and I couldn't see it.
354  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 11 July 2018, 16:00:36
The only other character I want is King K. Rool, if only to get more DK representation.

I'm absolutely with that.

Anyways, what are your hopes for characters, stages, items, music, etc.

For other new characters... I keep seeing people say like Shovel Knight and other newer franchises that have indie cred, but I don't think that's a good idea at all. In fact I don't really love going overboard with 3rd party characters in the first place.

It's cool once in a while, like Pac-Man and Sonic fit in well enough, but a part of the appeal for Smash was always the celebration of Nintendo's fantastic IP's/history. That's why Mr. Game & Watch was such a great addition. I think if they're going to keep adding non-Nintendo characters they should all be certified CLASSICS, and a lot of this new stuff isn't there yet.

For a 3rd party character, I'm gonna stick with the one I say with every new Smash: I'm burning that candle for Dig Dug (aka Taizo Hori). Nintendo already worked with Namco to get Pac-Man in, and I think he could fit in gameplay-wise and aesthetically. Nitendo has also been the only company doing anything with the character for years, as they released Dig Dug games on DS and re-released Mr. Driller games (featuring Dig Dug's son) too. Mr. Driller (aka Susumu Hori) could be an alternate costume/echo fighter for Dig Dug as well. I wrote a probably way too long pitch for this when Nintendo had that thing for Smash 4 where you write in what new character you'd like to see. They actually had Pookas in Smash 4's single player, which gave me hope that he'd be unlockable.

For a 1st party character, Nintendo should probably at least consider Ribbon Girl or  Min Min from ARMS. Those two are probably most popular characters in the game (as far as I know) and you'd be adding a character with entirely unique gameplay compared to the other characters. I see 'em working somewhat like Dhalsim does in Street Fighter, and there isn't really an extendo-character like that in Smash as of yet. Plus, from what I hear, the user base of ARMS saw a significant drop off when Splatoon 2 was released. I think that would a smart way to refresh some public interest in the property before a possible full sequel.

They just kind of stop and then start the next tune.  I don't care for that in a medly.

Agreed. In fact it's the antithesis of a medley.
355  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 10 July 2018, 20:32:49
SMB2 = Super Mario Bros. 2, and I will accept no usurper.

The point was the DLC was on it's own cart.  If they did physical releases for it, DLC would be a lot more palatable.  Still bull#####, but at least easier to deal with.

OK... I don't know anything about Xenoblade, it was an honest question.

Regardless, I think expansions should only be physical if they actually stand alone. "DLC" by definition is digital, but I see your point either way. If it can't be played without the full game, then I would prefer something like the Octo Expansion be software that's just added-on to game, especially on a mobile console like this.
356  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 10 July 2018, 20:27:57
Capping it off with an emoticon of MM with his eyes closed is genius.
357  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 10 July 2018, 14:45:58
I'm not a big Majora's Mask fan at all, but I'm willing to turn around on it (I did the same with Zelda II, which I now think is deceptively awesome). Maybe I'll try the 3DS remake one day, but I'd easily rather it on Switch at this point.

Well, I mean... Splatoon is primarily an online game and the DLC has an effect online play. I'm not sure how you'd make that be a physical release, really. Unless it was like you had to slot in the regular game card, and then switch it for the expansion like with Brood War.

That's how they're doing the expansion for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, on it's own cartridge.  I wouldn't be opposed to more stuff like that, or even a disc/cart with all the final DLC on it.

Interesting. Is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 primarily an online PvP game like Splatoon? I ask because the Splatoon 2 DLC is essentially a beefed up skin pack you'd find in other MMO shooters.

I just finished the expansion on the weekend and it is indeed crazy. It's the best single-player storyline the franchise has had to date. I beat all the levels, even those ones I was complaining about, it just took some doing.

The story involved in the DLC is rich in the lore that the first game established only in the sunken scrolls (a collectible hidden in each stage). It was surprisingly cinematic, and the lore of the game's universe is for my money a very under-sung aspect of Splatoon.
360  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 5 July 2018, 18:23:11
But would you like it to return?

That's one of those enemies I find the least inventive, but I guess should be in. They're in every MM clone pretty much anyway.
361  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 5 July 2018, 14:47:17
What other stage enemies would you all like to see return?

Have to assume Sniper Joe will be back, so I put my votes in for Matasaburo/Fan Fiend, Batton, and MM2's Monking.

363  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 4 July 2018, 15:17:07
Guns are Cable's main thing though. When I was a kid, my three favorite Marvel characters were Cable, War Machine, and the Punisher. Why? Because they brought the big guns. Everything else was secondary.

Yeaaahh... It's not like I said he shouldn't have had guns. I just would have liked if they touched on the fact that he's mutant AT ALL. I can't even remember them mentioning it once. I understand that maybe him having telepathy would have been a problem for the narrative, but it's easily solved by just saying he can't read a mind as scrambled as Wade's.

I get what you're saying, and it definitely wasn't necessary to get into him being a mutant for this movie, but I think a mention of it would have been good. His powers were a central part of the Cable & Deadpool comics, and while I don't want them to pursue those storylines in film, I just can't see his powers as ancillary. Especially when his storyline in the movie has multiple ties to the Hope storyline from the comics, which was completely about the future of mutant-kind.
364  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 3 July 2018, 17:02:40
I saw Deadpool 2. I might never have seen it but an opportunity came up. I actually think I like it more than the first movie.

I didn't have high expectations going in. It somehow managed to come out more creative, at least in my view. The first Deadpool seemed to rest on Deadpool's novelty in terms of a movie audience. It worked, and everyone loved it, but I kind of came out thinking, well... I think I enjoyed the humour most of all, but the villain and like half of the plot was just uninteresting to me. The second Deadpool seemed to have a lot more of the stuff that works.

Agree 100%. I didn't really like the first Deadpool movie that much, probably because I was already familiar with the character and the movie was only there to introduce him. I felt like all the jokes were obvious from a mile away, and that he really didn't feel like Deadpool much (not helped by the fact he was barely in costume in the movie). In particular, the scene where he freaks out that girl was taken and starts yelling "get the guns, get all the guns!" felt very non-Deadpool to me.

I liked the second one so much more, his characterization was much better, the jokes weren't nearly as obvious, but more importantly it wasn't as gimmicky. I thought Domino was excellent, I couldn't care less about her race. She acted with the personality of the character from the comics just fine, and that's all I cared about. I thought Cable was really good too, though I wish they touched more on him actually being a mutant with powers and not just guns. I don't really consider 5' 11" as "short", but I guess I'm bias. Regardless, I've never read a Cable comic (and I've read a lot) where his height was even a topic, I think people are just making this a thing because hating on short people is still popular.
365  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 3 July 2018, 16:52:51
Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion is pretty fun. Though some of the stages cross the line into the unfair zone of challenge (and I'm good at the game).

One stage, in which you have to beat the clock, is impossible to finish if you have a FRACTION less ink than required, because you have to do everything down to the millisecond in it, no time to refill. I beat that level, but have had others feel even harder. I don't mind difficulty, but since the ability to use the things you earn in the main game are locked until you finish the Octo Expansion (even if you've received the items) it's a little annoying. Overall I feel like it'll be worth it in the end, it's just a bit over the top.

I get what y'all are saying but the proportions of Powered Up seem to fit the header size perfectly and provide the classic RMs (and I guess Oil Man...)

What if Abe takes the time to overhaul the site's look and then we all hate MM11? Doesn't seem prudent at this juncture.

372  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 20 June 2018, 13:52:44
This person stinks at Mega Man.

Something I've been thinking about the sound design in this game that's kinda cool; The approach to the SFX and music parallels the visual approach of the game. It's reminiscent of classic Mega Man tunes but it's undeniably polished in a very modern way, just like how the game has this effect-heavy 2.5D look. I don't know if any of the music really grabs me yet but it's clear they are really trying in all aspects of the game to make sure they don't ##### this one up.

Still not sold the bosses talking during the fight, but cheesy lines like "prepare to diode" don't help.

Hearing the other people playing in the background is funny. One guy seems to be getting his clock cleaned by this game.

I like how you can see what is going to happen if you pay attention to the level layout.  Games need to do this more often rather than having to go through blindly like the Zero series.

I have just diagnosed you with sequelitis.

Definitely warming up to the look overall, especially since they're clearly tweaking and tightening the animations as they go. That run cycle is still a bit off though.

I see what you mean about the climbing, Xero. I kinda like it and kind of don't. It's just a bit... It seems like there's less frames there than for everything else, but I kind of like that it's a little stuttery.

That mini-boss thing was really well animated with a good character design. Actually I think I really like everything's animation outside of MM himself, gotta hope they keep tinkering.

Love: The design of green wheeler dude.
Don't love: Mega Man screaming when he dies.

Oh and that stage started to look a bit reminiscent of the MMX opening stage at one point, that was nice. Stage backgrounds are real nice looking.
377  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: E3 2018 on: 12 June 2018, 20:23:59
I really hope for more classic gaming characters rather than the Square-ification of Smash Bros. or the "every tough dark edgelord character". There's already Kingdom Hearts, I don't need every FF character showing up in every crossover game and the more "realistically" proportioned characters appear the less the classic ones fit in. I'm all for more characters than less, but I want to keep the fun balance of Smash Bros. For example, I think Ryu is the maximum amount of Street Fighter characters we need.

Sony bookended very well with Last Of Us Part 2 at the start and Spider-Man at the end. I never played The Last Of Us, I'm sick of zombie stuff, but Part 2 looks incredible enough I might try. I'm eagerly anticipating Spider-Man.

I think people just really want to hate on Anthem for reasons outside of what that game is. Basically everything with the combination of EA and Bioware is now "political".

To add, Fallout 76 does look like fun. Didn't they try to make a Fallout MMO years ago that got canned? Maybe this is their successor.... Or what have you.

Yep
378  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: E3 2018 on: 12 June 2018, 19:12:38
The community needs to trash this notion that you can "win" an expo. It's silly, toxic, and it's what leads to everything having to be more style than substance. Frankly, even though I watch I have a ton of distaste for E3 these days. In the live chats that's all you see "<blank> won E3!"

I'm tired of everything having to be a #####ing rock show for the sake of "winning" a damn business conference.

All the tweaks they did are great. Honestly I'm super hyped, especially with everyone being back. Even worthless ass Pichu is back and that makes me happy.

Also, I did enjoy the Wii U version as well.

Haha I actually loved Pichu. His strength came at a price, it was like playing Pikachu at a higher level.

I have all the Splatoon Amiibo so I likely won't be grabbing the "new" Inkling girl, but man I'm hoping for that Ice Climbers amiibo.

Anyone have hopes for certain new characters? Frankly I'm still burning a candle for Dig Dug.
379  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: E3 2018 on: 12 June 2018, 18:20:27
I've always said "why not just have everyone back". Personally I never minded "clone" characters and they were all different enough (also Wolf was never a clone so I'm glad he's back). Bringing back all the stages is huge too, I'm really excited for that because I missed a lot of those.

This is a controversial opinion for a Smash-head like me, but I thought the WiiU game was the best one yet, and now it looks like they're on pace to put that steadily in the rearview. Amazing.
380  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: E3 2018 on: 12 June 2018, 17:42:45

I see a lot of praise for the XBox press conference but it wasn't that special to me. Pretty much what Nova said, lot of cross platform. I don't know if I like them buying up a bunch of studios either. Only exclusive I've wanted from them is Cuphead on Switch which isn't happening (at least until a second full Cuphead game) so whatever.

Jump Force is the kind of thing I loathe. At least Cyberpunk continues to look up my alley, but I'll get it elsewhere.
382  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 11 June 2018, 20:26:01
It seems odd that a different fire weapon somehow doesn't affect a boss weak to fire. Hopefully they have other weaknesses aside from their original ones.

Kind of a bummer, tbh.
383  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: Heartbreak High made by our own ASR! on: 8 June 2018, 15:50:48
It only takes like 30 minutes to complete, I don't think a save feature is really necessary. My second run was 11/13, so it's really just about something you can pick and play easily.
384  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 7 June 2018, 18:08:04
If we are only allotted to 9 weapons, why have Fire Wave & Rising Fire as 2 choices for those only 9.

He did it specifically for that battle, probably would not be something you'd want to do when seriously playing instead of making a video. Looks like bosses are only weak to their original weaknesses and not new ones, since Rising Fire knocked Frost Walrus on his ass but barely fazed Chill Penguin (and vice-versa for Flare Wave).

It would be more fun if it had some mix-and-match to it, fans have postulated over that possibility since the these games were actually current.
385  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 7 June 2018, 17:57:37
Sprites. Personally, hand-drawn is still not the same the tightness, it only works well (in my opinion) when the whole game is designed around it like Cuphead. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero did a really good job converting to hand-drawn from the sprites though (but I still prefer the animation of Shantae And The Pirate's Curse more).

If you're going to try to emulate Mega Man's 2D movements 1:1 in 3D, you have to be cool with dropping frames (I mean "frames" in terms of animation, not framerate). So far, this was best done in Smash Bros., since they animated pose-to-pose very quickly.

Anyway, Capcom clearly thinks "Megaman doesn't do well in Europe historically" but doesn't realize that's 100% due to their own #####erage with the European market.
386  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 5 June 2018, 19:25:34
We'll agree to disagree.  Vehemently.

Maybe you will.
387  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 4 June 2018, 14:12:06
If there's any creedence to these, the most simplistic names are the most likely ones. Megaman doesn't get complicated with this stuff.

I highly doubt "Glue Man". I highly doubt fan guesses in general, but there's nothing about that design that is evocative of "glue". Of the guesses there, Acid Man is likely the closest. Everything about his design speaks to toxicity; Green fluid with bubbles accented by purple with a sharp point on the head, it's the common colour scheme and shapes for this type of character. If he's something other than acid/radioactivity/toxic then it's a waste of the design.

As for "Gas Man", well he's clearly got a fluid in those tubes rather than a gas. If they're thinking of "gas" as fuel.. then it's typically illustrated more yellow-ish than green, and we've already had the controversial Oil Man, but I could see them bending it that way.

The whole gimmick is "Theme" Man.  They're all male.  It's a significant difference to me and I don't like it.

They're all robots. Actually more important they're all drawings of robots. I really don't see the difference between "Theme" Man and "Theme" Woman. If it changed anything about the established universe or gameplay I could see the problem. Making some of them "female" only opens up the art direction, instead of stifling it which is clearly happening at this point since we seem to have Astro Man Jr. and Edgelord Form Gemini Man coming in MM11.
388  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 31 May 2018, 13:16:52
if we never get another female robot master I can die a little less bitter.

I don't see the problem with female robot masters.
389  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 30 May 2018, 18:14:21
This looks so much better now than before. Gameplay actually looks tight enough and I surprising am into the voice acting for the most part. Double Gear looks a bit like an easy mode but whatever.

They definitely wanted to modernize stuff, for better or worse. Not a fan of 2.5D but I can deal with it.

Is it confirmed you need to preorder to get the amiibo? I had to import my Megaman one from Japan so I never took it out of the packaging (it looks so nice), it would be nice to have a usable one... I just detest preordering.

Think any of these new RMs are female? Splash Woman was fantastic.

Edit: Took a closer look, I don't like that run cycle or his animations in general but I'm willing to look past it.

Especially new blood with new ideas.

And that's how we got Mega Man Zero and Mega Man Fully Charged.  STILL THINK NEW BLOOD WITH NEW IDEAS IS THE WAY TO GO SMART NINJA?

We could at least use some new jokes. But really, I think those were invented by old minds who lost their ways. Lest we forget that Inafune specifically said MMZ was his vision of what Zero could/should be.

For Fully Charged I blame Cartoon Network, which has been coasting for more than a decade at this point. It's not even Crapcom's fault at this point, I work in animation so I don't want to get too into it publicly but I have a lot of thoughts on the process that clearly went through (or didn't).

All the old heads lost their grip a long time ago.

Heartbreak High: A Break-Up Simulator
https://steamcommunity.com/app/836350

I'm gonna be playing when I'm home tonight, but I just wanted pass this along since this is one of our own making stuff! Over years I've been pretty damn excited to see people from this community grow and create like this. Who know that coming here as snot-nosed kids to talk about games would lead to snot-nosed adults that actually MAKE games.

He's doing these all on his own, and I'm pretty proud of him, so kick him a dime if you can. And if you haven't played his Malcolm In The Middle game then you've already missed a couple laughs.

Maybe YOU are! I like this place as a tight knit community with only people that have pseudo-known each other for 15+ years and LCrazy11!

I haven't played any of these but the concept is appealing. I don't think that just because something is a fad that it's necessarily a bad thing.

One credit I will give specifically to Fortnite is that it's constant updates and the way the devs actually listen to players and give detailed patch notes, combined with recent outrage for different BS that companies have pulled (ex: EA with Battlefront), is helping to change the way companies are approaching yearly release games. I watched a few videos on this subject in particular but long story short companies are being forced to actually give a ##### about their consumer base for the first time in a while. Apparently the new CoD is evidence of this. Regardless of if the game is to your taste, it is something that's important for gaming as a whole.

Well it wouldn't be much of a legacy collection if it was a remake that changed things, even if it's for the better.

After a certain point in the game I was so overloaded with Royal weapons that had stat buffs I really can't figure out why you'd be stuck replacing them with bokoblin clubs, but that is the case for the beginning of the game which I think makes you focus your attention on survival and exploration rather than straight battle. I'm not attempting to justify it, I don't have to, but I never saw the problem others did. Especially since Lynel's scale up and respawn, but aren't really challenging to defeat.

the weapons never break, but you can get stronger versions from enemies & chests.

That is literally the way every other mainline Zelda works.

Except I don't want to play games on a #####ing PC.  For the same reason I haven't for decades.  I don't want to mess with at the #####ing setting/hardware versions/ram/video cards, etc, etc.  I just want to buy a game and know I can put it in and play it.

And that's not even getting into PCs "digital only" and "always online" horse #####.

PC and console markets are for completely different targets.

Agreed.

I perfer playing on consoles because that's what they are SPECIFICALLY Designed for.  Playing Games.  Alot of games take up space on the PC when it's used for more than just playing games (Unless you purchase a dedicated PC just for gaming).

What's even better, is the Swtich is portable so I can take games like Tropical Freeze & BoTW and play it on a long bus ride or at a relative's house so it's convenient.

PS4 is also cool (Got mine from a co-worker with 1TB at only $150.)  Play alot of games on it and stuff.

The Xbox....is just kinda there really.  I don't even see the appeal of the Xbox anyway.  I mean I guess it has Cuphead but that's about it really.

I understand that and I'm inclined to agree with you both for the most part (I don't mind PC gaming here or there but I certainly do not prefer it), but Microsoft's business model likely isn't catered specifically to users of a niche forum about a comatose series. It's just market analysis.

I too think the XBox One is a disaster, but Microsoft themselves are just fine because they set themselves up as such. Conversely the Playstation 4 is fantastic, but Sony themselves are in dire straights.

The name calls sounded... odd.  Like they weren't spoken right or with no effort.  The music also sounded like it was playing too fast.  The whole challenge mode thing looks like it was thrown together quick and cheaply to me.

Absolutely. It's like the announcer guy isn't as hyped as I am which is kind of a bummer, and the music really made me think of a DDR beat.
