I don't actually own enough MegaMan games to bother making a list right now.

My collection used to be a lot bigger, but like John, I sold most of mine.

I still have the original NES carts for MM2 and MM3, my favorite two MM games, even though I've never owned an NES.

The best part of Rez's collection is that you can see where he gave up on certain series'.

Like he gave MMZ2 a chance, and then gave up on the rest.
MMBN4 sucked, so he never got another one.
MMZX didn't meet his standards, so he didn't bother with ZXA.

I played a few hours into ZXA, but I don't own it.  But yeah.  I gave MMZ and ZX a fair shot.  Both series are #####.  I only have X7 because no one knew it would be THAT bad and X8 because I wanted to believe it wouldn't be as bad as X7.  Which it wasn't, but it was still bad.

Title: Re: The Mega Man Collection Topic
Post by: ChaosVortex on 9 August 2008, 04:02:41
ZX was fair to me. Not great, but I put it higher than MMZ.

But I don't know if I'm willing to buy another one though. So far there's been little to no improvement.

I copied the game file to a CD, burned the CD, made a cover sticker for it, put it in a CD case, made packaging for the CD case and put it on my shelf.

I OWN THE GAME.

Oh, I can DO it.  Mind you it won't play unless I move the game data from the CD to my computer, then back to the SD card then onto the Wii, but I can DO it.

... Maybe I will too.  Just need to get some better art of the heads pic.

I would/will definitely do that, because there's really no way I'm "buying a game" and not backing it up. I want to get Ocarina Of Time and Mario RPG anyway.

I've been playing Mario RPG off and on all summer... I didn't think other people really thought much of it. I guess I'm just at the right age to truly have enjoyed such games when they first came out and remember them.

As for a Megaman collection... I so far have all of the X series, original (minus 9) and Zero (even though it's not Megaman technically) and Battle Network games.

I would/will definitely do that, because there's really no way I'm "buying a game" and not backing it up. I want to get Ocarina Of Time and Mario RPG anyway.

I own the cartridge of Mario RPG.  One of the best games ever made.  OoT, not so much.

I really can't find the cartridges of them, and I can't find my N64 anyway. I like OoT enough to "own" or own it. I do have Mario RPG's cart somewhere. Not that I own it, but I borrowed it in the ninth grade from a guy I do not plan on talking to ever again.

We got lucky because that blockbuster closed and we didn't have to return the games (and we had a lot)

MM1 (GB)

I LOVE that one. It's the one with Enker, right? I have it lying around the house somewhere.

I really need to get to finding a copy of X3.

I actually have two copies of X3, which I got around 8 or so years ago at the cheap price of $39.99. Still need it? ;o

X1 isn't as rare as X3, and especially X2. Don't you miss those days where you could just walk into Blockbuster or any video rental store and see shelves of all those NES / SNES games?

Sigh.

Right up until I moved out of my old hometown in 2004 the local video store still had a (small, admittedly, but still substantial) shelf full of SNES games.

THEY EVEN HAD MEGA MAN X AND YOSHI'S ISLAND

The only time I'd justify keeping something from Blockbuster is if their store shuts down.

As a kid, I'd always had this master plan that if the Blockbuster near us closed, I'd rent as many videogames as I could the day before it closed.

Turns out it actually DID go out of business while I was away at military school and I never knew until years later.

A video game store around my old elementary school shut down, before they did everything they had there was cut down to dollar store prices, I remember there being Yu-Gi-Oh! booster packs for like 2 dollars or something, games were all 5 dollars or something.

I wish I could have snagged a couple things before it shut down, I was in High School by that time and wasn't in that loop anymore.

It's actually...

besides fighting ghost Navis, it's surprisingly easy. I knew Nova said it was, but I didn't think it would be THIS easy. I fought Dive Man without even looking at his HP and I beat him in 3 turns.

It's actually kinda fun, but only kinda. Crosses are better, but still inferior to styles, and it's still packed with dumb uninteresting BN4-BN5 errands. But still, there's like, no challenge in the game. It's easier than Star Force so far...

Okay, I know it's not a game, but I'm a total braggart with this thread and I added the Mega Man 9 Press Kit to my list.

Posted on: 17 February 2009, 04:55:14

The How's Your Day Thread gets enough traffic so I'll post this here:

I had time to kill today and on the drive home, I saw a garage sale in my neighborhood so I checked it out. I saw a SNES complete with controllers and and about 20 games. Out of all the games, I grabbed Super Metroid and Mega Man X (which someone stole from me long ago). I got the whole thing for about $23, so it was a nice deal.

I just played MMX and beat it. Good memories.

Post by: ChaosVortex on 1 June 2009, 00:23:01
There's a lot of different kinds. I see them all the time at the flea market here.

The problem with them though: Some of the games aren't compatible with it for some reason, and some of the controllers flat out suck.

Title: Re: The Mega Man Collection Topic
Post by: ASR on 1 June 2009, 00:24:45
I've "been going to" get an NES and a bunch of games for a REALLY long time now.

SNES is second priority, since that's a slightly more expensive endeavor. All the best games are super rare and expensive on eBay and that's annoying. I'll barely play either system anyway.

You make it sound like it's unplayable. I've never bought it, and I don't plan on ever getting it... but it didn't seem THAT bad. MMAC was much worse.

Then again, I only played it for a whole 10 minutes, so I probably never noticed anything horrible in it.

But like I probably meant to say, it's only good enough if you CAN'T find the originals for the SNES/PSX. If you have the originals, stay away.

... oh, and how does one get fired from a 'canon'?

Yeah, replaying it you can feel the changes, but it's still good. Only major thing I complain about is the difficulty with dash jumping off of walls. You have to time it JUST RIGHT and even then it's a pain and half of the jump looks awkward.

Anniversary Collection and X Collection are bad ports. Simple. But I don't actually hate them, mainly because they're all I've got and I can play them enough. Since I suck at them anyway I don't TOTALLY mind that things are off, though I'm sure I'd be better at the real deal.

I don't know how we got onto MHX, but I don't have a PSP because ___________, so I didn't play it.

When hodge podge programs written by random people for the computer play games better than a professional port, something is VERY wrong with the port.

This is the case with MMAC and MMXC.  And yes, button assignment (and the general button layout on the GC controler) DOES make it damn near UNPLAYABLE on the Gamecube.

Not if you're used to A being below and to the left of B from the 360 controller. The only problem I have with the controls is the layout if you have even the slightest intention of the Y is Mega buster thing in MM8.

I said it's only a problem in 8. It's the easiest, so you probably should be able to beat it anyways. The only parts I got a game over at were at Frostman's stage's snowboarding part, at Wily Stage 1's landboarding part, and the final stage when I was drawing a blank for what beat who.

... are you retarded or just pretending to be?  The Xbox and 360's buttons are laid out EXACTLY like the SNES and Playstation controler.  They're COMPLETELY DISSIMILAR to the Gamecube's horrible placement, and thus your statement sounds amazingly similiar to a chimp screeching.

Title: Re: The Mega Man Collection Topic
Post by: ASR on 30 July 2009, 18:44:23
I don't think I've ever memorized the letters or colors on the buttons for SNES or XBOX. I can't possibly see how that's ever mattered to anyone aside from sometimes when the game mentions them telling you how to do a move or something... and even then, it's just once and you check which button it is, and you know how it feels and remembers that.

I always call the button that the tip of my thumb is on "B" and the joint of thumb is on "A", regardless of what they really are.

Title: Re: The Mega Man Collection Topic

I always call the button that the tip of my thumb is on "B" and the joint of thumb is on "A", regardless of what they really are.

Same here, and that's because that's how it is on Nintendo consoles.

If an Xbox game tells me to press "B", I'm going to press "A", and vice versa.

It's just a small annoyance of mine, but since I don't play on an Xbox that often, I'll always get confused every time I play a game of something.

When they made MMXC for GCN, all I asked was for button config for every game, which was supplied.

It's obvious the Gamecube controllers are horrid. When I play MMXC, I use the L button to dash.

Other than that, I don't see the screw ups they did with the collection, except for what they did to X6 and such, but that's kinda Inafune's fault though. MMAC is obviously badly done. My first time playing the games on MMAC felt really off, even if I hadn't played them before.

There's a BIG difference in quality alone when you pop in MMAC on your Wii to play MM1, then play a downloaded VC version of MM1.

And yes, button assignment (and the general button layout on the GC controler) DOES make it damn near UNPLAYABLE on the Gamecube.
Not if you're used to A being below and to the left of B from the 360 controller. The only problem I have with the controls is the layout if you have even the slightest intention of the Y is Mega buster thing in MM8.

... are you retarded or just pretending to be?  The Xbox and 360's buttons are laid out EXACTLY like the SNES and Playstation controler.  They're COMPLETELY DISSIMILAR to the Gamecube's horrible placement, and thus your statement sounds amazingly similiar to a chimp screeching.
Have you considered the possibility that I don't HAVE a Super NES?

No because A) Rez is old, B) Most of us are probably old than you, and C) Not ever having an SNES is... You poor child.

I've never had trouble remember which button is what on which controller. Even the somewhat odd Wii remote and Nunchuck. I don't know what's wrong with you people but I'm disappointed , especially in Vinch since he's in the biz sort of in the future hopefully.

I always call the button that the tip of my thumb is on "B" and the joint of thumb is on "A", regardless of what they really are.

Same here, and that's because that's how it is on Nintendo consoles.

N64, Gamecube, and Wii are on A...

Who the hell has trouble remembering the layout of the buttons?  That has nothing to do with the fact the GC's controler has AWFUL button layout and was the main reason the games were unplayable.

You don't have to have had a #####ing SNES to understand my point as EVERY #####ing controler worth a damn made since it more or less copies it's button layout.  Ever heard of a "Playstation"?  Perhaps an "Xbox"?  These are consoles you may have seen friends play.  Guess what?  Their button placement is THE SAME.  And that's all you need to compare to the GC's layout.  I've even attatched a nice diagram below to illustrate how the optimal diamond layout for buttons looks vs the abortion that is the GC's akward as hell button layout.

And MMXC had several errors besides the intentional removing of X6's dialog.  The most glaring I recall is the title screen of X2, where there's a shrill sound effect that won't stop playing from the intro sequence.  I was also very unhappy they didn't include the SNES version of X3, as the PS1/Saturn port had ##### for music.  So no, MMXC isn't NEARLY as bad as MMAC, but it's still poorly done.

I could've sworn the SNES controller had purple As and Bs and very light purple Xs and Ys. I think mine do, at least. I guess I just never knew they had another controller with different coloured buttons.

Most annoying about MMXC is I'm pretty sure the none of the music tracks repeat... it just fades and then comes back. Maybe the ones from the Playstation games do, I'm not sure.

Maj is right about the SNES, at least the controller that was packaged with the second model.

I like the Gamecube controller as much as I like the 360 controller.
I can't bring myself to sell my Wavebird for any less that 30 bucks because it's worth that much to me. I got used to the weird placement of the GCN button anyways so it wasn't that big of a deal.

THEY DID IT FOR A FRIGGIN PSP GAME? WHO BUYS PSP GAMES ANYMORE?
I was about to make the argument that even if it was a crappy black and white menu with one option per game to start it followed by asking if you want to continue or start a new game, it would be fine if it had the original games. But the made them WORSE in the X collection!?!? HOW can it be going for $30 on ebay when the original collection is only 5?

I'm sorry but in this instance I have to say you're an idiot.

"What? They did it for a PSP game?" COMPLETELY implies that you're responding to someone talk about a PSP game. No one said anything about PSP at all recently, so what you said makes absolutely no sense to any of us. I am hoping english isn't your first language because while you spell all right enough and everything, the way you organize your thoughts and/or order your words leaves a lot to be desired.

With the post in question, I have no idea what you were talking about through any of it. And I'm usually quite adept and deciphering these types of things. Please work on it.

I could've sworn the SNES controller had purple As and Bs and very light purple Xs and Ys. I think mine do, at least. I guess I just never knew they had another controller with different coloured buttons.

They did. Some had purps, some had the other colours. I'm not sure what the distinction is, but it could be the rainbow ones were limited to certain parts of the world, though I doubt it because I'm pretty sure I've used them at friends' houses before as I remember remarking that they looked like those sour coated tart candies I loved that you could get at Bulk Barn.

Either way, all of mine were always the purplies. First and second models.

As far as I've been aware of, the coloured buttons were only available in Europe and Japan, whilst the purple buttons were in North America.

They changed the colours to match the redesign of the NA version of the system.

Title: Re: The Mega Man Collection Topic

About right. They did the same to the NES. While Japan got white and red, we got grey and black. I frequently forget that too, unless I'm playing Brawl or MKDS and I see different colors of R.O.B.s.

I like the colors we got though.

Also, about GMG, I think he was talking about my comment that I managed to relay. He just failed to quote or address it.

I liked it.

Although, it would have been BETTER had Inafune not stepped in.

No. I shouldn't be saying that. After all, it was for the best. I mean, look what we have now since he stopped all that extra remixes and bonus material?

*Laughs insanely while playing MHX2 on an invisible PSP*

THANKS INAFUNE

And then he read Rez's comment about X6 and pieced it together. The rest of it seems a little out there. I'm quite sure a single Mega Man game like that of the Classic and X series goes for more than five bucks.

Yes, I do mean X7 too.

Although, unless you're just wanting it for your collection, you'd have to be pretty stupid to purchase it.

So what, your trachea is closing up just by looking at them?

I'm pretty convinced whoever diagnosed me with severe allergies to peanuts is retarded because I've eaten things with traces of peanuts and maybe had a tiny itch in my throat.

I'd feel like it sucks not to be able to have peanut butter and stuff like that, but you naturally develop an aversion to stuff that allegedly can kill you. So to me, it tastes and smells bad I guess. And I hate how it stuck to the roof of my mouth the one time I had it before diagnosis.

I know that I'm actually allergic to dogs and peanuts, I nearly died when I was 6 months old and try small intakes of peanut butter to see if it's gone, small being less than a fingernail. It tastes so great, but I get sick for weeks afterwords.

The local game shop near me, Play N Trade, called to notify me that they're giving away $5 store credit to their good customers. I dropped by and saw Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge for $3, so I grabbed it.

So, pretty much, I got a free Mega Man game today.

And while I'm playing it/hanging out with Annie, the guy calls me again (by accident) to tell me I have $5 store credit. He felt a little embarrassed when I told him I was just there ten minutes ago, but I'd gladly take the $5.

Cut Man Stage > Cut Man
Fire Man Stage > Fire Man
Elec Man Stage > Elec Man
Ice Man Stage > Ice Man
Dr. Wily Stage 1 > Quick Man, Flash Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, and Enker
Dr. Wily Stage 2 > Dr. Wily (phase 1 and 2)

Yes. Fighting the four MM2 bosses in one stage caught me by surprise. Also, Flash Man is a jerk in this one.

But the problem is that in MMXC, there is an unlockable Classic Game, and it bugs me that it's under the X Series area, so I don't do it.

The point being that owning the NES cartridge of MM1 is a hell of a lot more "collectible" than saying "I own MM1.... on the MMAC".  You don't own MM1, you own MMAC, which has x number of games on them in an inferior version (port that behaves differently than the original).  It is disingenuous to say you have MM1 when in fact you have a cheap knock off.

Title: Re: The Mega Man Collection Topic
Post by: ChaosVortex on 13 May 2010, 03:20:53
I put it on my list with assumption that you're thinking: "I have this piece of crap imitation that really doesn't count as much but hey, I can at least play Mega Man 1 with it".

Same goes for Virtual Console games, except they have a bit more value since they're done much better, like how MMAC SHOULD have been.

I still strongly desire the original cartridges and such. I can't play any NES games but owning one would still be pretty awesome.
