Got the new LEGO Star Wars and Godfall: Ultimate Edition to review. I played an hour of LEGO Star Wars on my lunch break and it's pretty cool. The game is HUGE.

I already really like the new job I'm in, but I feel like I could do this work all day. Curious how I would have felt if I was still working retail IT. Everything feels more manageable now instead of a huge spiral of despair, and it's not a constant focus of being a #####-up and self-hatred. I feel generally chill and I've noticed I've started eating less (a potential side effect of Zoloft).

So I got prescribed Zoloft by my doctor. I haven't told many people about it, but I finally decided to do something about my mental health instead of slapping on a band-aid of seeing a therapist every 8-10 years. My brain has finally shut up, and I've started waking up at 7 AM without an alarm AND I have energy. Is this what normal people feel like? I'll still be seeing a therapist in early April, but it feels good to have finally got the ball rolling.

Star Trek: Discovery S4 ended strong; I'm still not really a fan of the crew, but the plots have been interesting. Picard S2 has been great so far.

I watched the first 15 minutes of the new Halo show. The action was cool, but the humans talking felt like a fan-movie with a budget.

If a movie isn't good when baked, you know it's cooked.

Ehhhhhh there's some movies that are hilarious when I'm sober but dumb when I'm baked - usually comedies. Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle are two movies I've sat through baked as hell and didn't laugh once.

I got baked and watched Dungeons & Dragons for the first time. Holy hell that movie is bad. It's a fan film with theatrical distribution, although some parts were cool, there's a part about halfway through that you can tell they just cut out a ton of #####.

Since I recently got an iPhone 13 with waaaaaaay more space and a bigger screen size, I've returned to gaming on my phone when I'm really bored. Right now I'm focusing on Forza Street since the servers are slated to shut down on April 11th and I still have three achievements left.

Tbh the game is a decent time-waster, and now that I have a bigger screen I'm enjoying it more. Fingers crossed I can complete the game before the servers go off, but I think I should be good.

Oh man, I've been gone for a couple of weeks due to quitting my old job, having minor surgery, and starting my new job...these strips I've missed have been incredible!

Watched the 4K edition of RoboCop. Holy hell what a film.

I got my hands on an Xbox Series X through the "All Access" program, which gets me the console and two years of Game Pass Ultimate, by paying about $31/mo for two years. That was great up until I was playing the XB1 version of Hot Wheels Unleashed, when I discovered I could no longer do perfect starts because the system runs that version of the game a little too quickly. Thankfully I found confirmation through a Reddit post that achievements and save data are shared between the XB1 and XSX versions, so now I just need to get the game when it goes on sale again.

Two games I enjoy playing baked as of late is Alphaset by POWGI, which is a crossword puzzle-like game where you have to insert all 26 letters of the alphabet once per puzzle to complete all of the words. The other is The Gunk, a scifi 3D platformer where you have to suck up all of this...gunk...that is sucking the life out of an uncharted planet. It feels very Ghostbusters-like, and I like playing it because it's fairly relaxing until I get too baked to figure out where I am. Then I start it up the next day (baked again) and am like "...where the ##### did I get myself," progress further, only to eventually get lost again.

Nah, the Speed Racer is a glorious love letter to Speed Racer, cinema, and Hot Wheels cars. Visually stunning, got the feel of the adaptation right, and just a fun movie. I'm hoping that there's a clause in the contract for the new Matrix movie that funds Speed Racer 2 if the movie does well enough...the script was confirmed as done, it just has to get made.

Season 4 of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous came out and my oldest son has already binged it. I still have yet to watch season 3, so the stuff that he would random run into the kitchen to tell me doesn't make sense, but he's excited about the Spinosaurus and a saber-tooth tiger showing up.

I got the Batmobile last night! I have only one more "regular" car to get in Hot Wheels Unleashed, and everything else are Super Treasure Hunt cars, which take patience to get (I think there's a few that get unlocked via the "adventure" mode, the rest you just have to wait for them to pop up in the store.). So I'm stoked and just doing my objectives every day so I can get the rest of the DC Villains cars - only Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are left!

I've never read any of the Dune novels, and my only experience with it before the current movie is the one from 1984. I thought the old movie was okay, but I barely remember anything about it and the constant inner monologue was annoying. The new Dune movie I thought was really cool and made all of the political/economic stuff way more accessible to general audiences; my wife thought that alone was a huge feat in of itself.

Watched the first episode of Star Trek: Discovery's fourth season today. Once you get past the lame opening that reminds the viewers who all of the characters are, it was okayish. Not a bad episode, but definitely not one of the better ones.

Also checked out the first episode of Netflix's Cowboy Bebop. It's a tough sell because, well, it's Cowboy Bebop. It constantly teetered a line of feeling like an expensive fan-film vs a good adaptation, and especially at the beginning it felt like the showrunners are aware of reasons why Sin City and Speed Racer are beloved for their stylized adaptations of the material, but they don't have the understanding of what made them work. Dialogue that worked in the anime doesn't always feel right in the live-action version, and them trying to copy the dialogue and feel of the series feels like I'm watching someone's cribbed homework. I'll watch the rest of the series; I've already seen a minute clip of Edward and Spike together and I'm not looking forward to those moments.

Wonder if they ever tried using the Mach 5's saw blades to sculpt anything, like you see those chainsaw sculptors at county fairs and stuff.

Ehhhhh trust me, the single player is anything but half-assed. The variety of cars is great, and it's obvious they took a lot of care into creating the tracks. None of them feel the same or pull any of that "same track, but at night! Or mirrored!" crap. If anything, pick it up on sale.

The first racing season in Hot Wheels Unleashed has arrived; it's DC Super Villains themed, with I think 6 cars to add to your collection. Pretty much as long as you do the daily challenges, it seems like you should be fine. They automatically give you a Deathstroke van/truck and it sucks until you upgrade it to "rare," but the credits and gears are flowing very nicely 3 days into the season, so I've been upgrading a bunch of my cars.

Wait, it this a games as service/live service game?  I was thinking of picking it up, and if it is, I won't be.

So yes/no. It's a racing game that has 50+ Hot Wheels cars that you can race around I want to say 40+ tracks, and if you never want to go online, that's fine. There's DLC season passes that can be purchased for extra cars, tracks, and track pieces (if you want to build your own tracks), but it's not necessary. DLC thus far are cars from DC Comics, Street Fighter, Aston Martin (so they can have a James Bond car release around the time of NTTD without having to say it's a James Bond car) and other Hot Wheels cars. They've confirmed that other car manufacturers and He-Man cars will also be coming at some point.

As for the racing seasons, this is a separate purchase from the season passes ($5 I think?). The seasons will last about 60 days, and there are three objectives you need to complete each day to keep earning XP to move up tiers that are purely rewards. If you want to compete in online races to do the objectives you can, but it's really not necessary and you can do everything in single player. Again, not necessary to purchase any of the DLC if you don't want to, although I will say that the credits (used to purchase cars) and gears (used to upgrade cars) are flowing very nicely during this racing season - I was wondering if they were going to do something like this, because otherwise the game is a tad grindy when upgrading/purchasing cars.

That being said, this game was a strong contender for my GOTY on my friend's podcast, and it still is. Even if they hadn't introduced the racing season (which again, you don't have to do unless you want to), it's a really well-made game that has a lot of love and care put into it.
