Okay, am I the only one who's getting the vibe that this might be that idea Inafune teased about a while back, talking about making a MegaMan fighting game that puts all the different incarnations of MegaMan in an arena together?

Because I can't bring myself to believe that MegaMan is a good platform to make an MMORPG out of.

And that fighting game idea sounded awesome.

Mega Man Universe. It's your favorites side-scrolling Mega Man you used to love, until Wily attacks Light's Lab and vows to take over the universe. Now it's up to Mega Man to find the 120 Power Fragments that Wily has scattered across the universe, and defeat Wily once again!

If this is a Mega Man X9, this is how I feel:

NO THANK YOU.

They've already screwed up storyline-wise from MMX5, by screwing it up further in X6 and then just going nuts with X7 and X8. Yeah, X8 was fairly decent, but the story... It made no sense and... for goodness sakes you battled on the MOON.

If it's however, something original, I may like it.

A MMO set in the Mega Man X universe, where you can create your own character, make him either a civilian, a maverick, or a maverick hunter, and do pretty much anything you want?

That's why.

Title: Re: MegaMan Universe

A MMO

I'm out at this point.

Title: Re: MegaMan Universe
Post by: TheRedPriest on 12 May 2010, 22:27:58
I really just don't get the appeal of MMORPGs.  I don't want to play Feces Gorilla and run around tossing turd bombs at everyone.  I want to play X.  Or Zero.  In 2D.  Nice challenging platforming.

This is why we can't have nice things.  Though I think of all the Mega Man franchises that would work well as one, X or Battle Network would be best.  X offers more options than Classic and Battle Network is MUCH less restricted than Star Force by virtue of the nature of Net Navies vs FMians or whatever the hell they're called.  You could do Legends, but it's just doesn't offer as many options or potential as X or BN.

Though I really have no practical interest in it at all, just academic.

Edit - And yes, like Abe, I'm out at this point if it is indeed a MMO game.

Title: Re: MegaMan Universe

So, this game turned out to be RockMan Online.

http://www.themmnetwork.com/2010/06/03/new-details-and-images-on-rockman-online/

Surprisingly... it's not an MMO, but rather a side-scrolling Action RPG, in the same style X8 was done.

A Co-Op MegaMan game? Sounds interesting.

... It's still a MMORPG.  I have no idea how they intend to make it work in a 2.5D "Action RPG" style though.  This whole thing sounds like an awful, AWFUL train wreck.  The kind you could only get away with doing in Korea.

Way to shoot at least half of their possible target audience in the foot.  It looks like MHX and MMPU all over again.

And where does that trailer confirm it's a 2D game?  I don't recall that.  I don't recall ANY #####ing info about what kind of game it is in it.

After that trailer we have exactly the same amount of info on the type of game it is as we did before, NONE.

Title: Re: MegaMan Universe
Post by: ASR on 18 July 2010, 03:49:07
Rez, it was clarified to be a 2D game in at least one article from earlier that I definitely remember reading.

And we actually have quite a bit more info: there's a lot of hints of Capcom crossovers happening, leading me to think you'll get to do a lot of character customization from not only your own imagination but from other Capcom series as well. Honestly, I think this has the potential to be very cool.

But Rez hates everything.

Yes, you get to go for the rest of your life.

It's a lot shorter than it sounds.

Back to the topic at hand:
: CAPCOM
“This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they’ll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true.”

Challenge the conventional wisdom?  Wasn't that what they tried, I dunno, like six times already?

Yeah, I was coming here just to post it too.

I know it's not Bass.exe, but why did they have to give him a cape like he is? I can just hear someone joining and going all "omg bass.exe is in it". I'm assuming at the least, that X and Classic will be connected somehow, like a time warp or something that isn't canon. Like how Tatsunoko vs Capcom has no effect on the X series with Zero's story.

Title: Re: MegaMan Universe

Nova: It HAS that vibe to it, but it still looks to me like it's just both of them merged into one. It looks more like a crossover than a "between".

I guess they took the fans literally?

The artwork is a little wonky, too.

Title: Re: MegaMan Universe
Post by: TheRedPriest on 27 August 2010, 17:35:11
The number of continuity errors in that trailer are absurd.  I've not seen where it was stated by anyone official that this is suppose to be a bridge game.  The afore mentioned continuity errors would seem to back up that it is not a bridge game.  We've also still seen NOTHING of the actual gameplay, but as it's an MMORPG it's going to be ##### anyway.

That being said, I loved the animation itself.  I think it'd work better as an OVA or something.  It's obviously far too good for what it's being used for.

Then again, that doesn't make sense anymore. We have 2 trailers, and one shows (what I think is) the Mega Man 10 commercial kid. If it was a Korea only game, he wouldn't be in it.

I honestly don't care what topic we talk about either in. I'm still confused.

Okay, looked over the topic. This whole thread is just one huge identity confusion. The majority of this thread has mainly been about Rockman/MegaMan Online though.

I suggest changing the thread name to that, and I'll make a topic for Mega Man Universe.

I posted something that matched the thread title :-P

Really though, when this thread was created, there was no identification as to what MegaMan Universe is. Other than a few small details, we got a poster that Xero posted of X for what we know now is Mega Man Online. John posted a trailer to Mega Man Universe, but since everything is so VAGUE, there's barely anything we can tell about these games.

In short: STOP POINTING FINGERS AT EACH OTHER LIKE YOU'RE RIGHT AND EVERYONE IS WRONG. It's just silly.

No they are not! One is Korianized and the other is Capcomized. XD

But any who, there's news about the other one but don't wanna double post and can't edit since am so limited on a phone.

Different games.

Megaman Universe is going to be released on XBLA and PSN and maybe other stuff and is made my Capcom.

Megaman Online is a North Korean exclusive and is made by a 3rd party.

Ha ha, ASR.

In short: STOP POINTING FINGERS AT EACH OTHER LIKE YOU'RE RIGHT AND EVERYONE IS WRONG. It's just silly.

I was really just making a point of saying. Xero segued the thread when he said "I HOPE THIS IS IT" he didn't actually say "this is it" but regardless I'm wrong anyway because I guess we were discussing what Xero was talking about at the time and not the actual original topic, so both Jon and Vinch were right with respect to what they were doing.

I was pretty sure the games were different, though, regardless of the confusion. It was only until that recent trailer was posted that I was like "Wait, so I guess MMU is the English name for it." Because the animated thing really looked like exactly what MMU was supposed to be, with the different series intertwined.

It's okay (I wasn't pointing any fingers), I just don't get why there's a discussion going about "who knew" like it really matters.

Also: Ha to ASR, John, and TheOnly. ASR for the funny.

There's really not much to discuss, and I just wasn't applying a filter to everything I think to type.

It's just small talk.

Hey, JC.  Here's a fun game that has the possibility of giving you alcohol poisoning and making you shut up about your post-adolescence "hey look at me i can drink" and possibly put you out of my misery.

Play the first Mega Man.
Every time you see a bullet fired from an enemy, take a drink.

I have a better idea. John, try this out. Try playing Mega Man X7.

Every time you feel annoyed, take a drink.

... to be honest, I can't tell if you if that's a drinking game I made up, or just method of coping.

Looks cool I guess.

There seems to be a downward curve pattern between X and Zero. Still, it's a different look for Zero that I don't absolutely hate so that's something.
Duo I just don't know.

Actually I'm looking at Zero right now and thinking new age power ranger.

But what am I thinking I don't care! So liberating not to care. The worst thing ever could happen to your beloved characters and weeeeeeee

Oh. God. 0:20. Two Zero's. Two. That's a friggin' bad sign. Otherwise that looks solid (besides the weird new armors), it looks like a MM game I've been waiting for..

AND NOVA YOU ASSFACE THAT SECOND LINK IS BROKED.

Title: Re: MegaMan/RockMan Online
Post by: TheRedPriest on 18 November 2010, 16:20:18
I thought Axl was the bad sign myself.  And X getting beat down by any Robot Master OTHER than Air Man would have been a joke, but as we all know, you can't beat Air Man, so it's cool.

I can't say the gameplay blew me away.  Looked pretty MHXish, which isn't bad I guess, but that psudo 2.5D is never as tight or sharp as real 2D.  I don't see how the "multiplayer" bit really even fits with the game to be honest.

All in all, it's a neat novelty, but I really have no interest in the plot, the gameplay or look.  I'd say we're not missing anything.

Yeah, it looks better than I thought it would and I'm certainly willing to give it a try... but it also just looks very simple. Nothing too innovative aside from the multiplayer, which doesn't seem to change much aside from making things easier.

I personally can't wait for this game to come out! It looks fun as hell for an MMO, and the new armor designs are INSANE  ;D. They're already seriously considering a Japan release, so it's not impossible for us to see it make its way to the states! Axl is like... Silver the Hedgehog of Mega Man X.

Funny that I like Silver too.

I love #####ing with you people. It tickles me how you guys can hate something that is soooo good. It's like how kids hate Dark Chocolate. Childish and totally irrational.

Oh well, I guess it'll shock you all to say I also like X7 and don't use X in X7 or X8. I even deem X inferior to Axl in X8. X's usefulness is zilch when I have Axl or Zero. I can even solo the game on its hardest with Axl alone.

Yep.

That's called obsession, and it belongs in Ryships.

Also, I thought Axl was pretty cool to use in X8... he's ##### in X7 pretty much all around, but he's better than Zero in 8.

I'll just take up a contrary position on the usefulness of X, however, because I think he just makes everything easy.

I AM surprised that you like Axl, and I don't understand it, but it's not like I'm fuming with rage here.

But please, continue to be condescending.

I've argued that I like him as a character in X8, but I dislike what he brings to the gameplay. You know how X7 and X8 have the whole switch-out thing? I didn't care for it that much, but if they were to do it right, I think it would feel better with just X and Zero.

Wait no... I did.

Again with the srs bsns. 8D It feels so good, it's like rolling in chocolate... which probably isn't as good as it sounds.

Anyway, I did enjoy the switch out system, given I like to mix it up a bit. Having more than one gameplay type at my disposal is an interesting notion, but I think it would've been more... interesting if they had four characters instead of just three. But on that notion, I can't think of another style that would be fitting enough. Or a character for that matter.

Dark chocolate is beast.

Agreed.

Anyway, I'm not really interested in anything Mega Man until I see Mega Man 11, Mega Man X9 (which I would still be skeptical of), or perhaps Legends 3.

I don't think this Rockman Online business interests me any further than some of its concept art.

I still think they had all sorts of potential with Dynamo.  He's chaotic enough that it would have been no small stretch to fabricate a reason for him to be playable.

Although I still prefer the one character at a time thing because it adds to replay value.  Being able to switch at any time (even the way X5 did it) is a detriment to that even if it doesn't ruin it.
