Title: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 28 December 2008, 21:13:20
The highest score I've ever obtained was 9115283. But of course, I did it on the Anniversary Collection. The save feature really helped.

Top Ten:
-----------
1. Shawn: 9115283
2. TheRedPriest: OVER 9000
3. Mikero: Really Bad
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

Mine is: Really bad.

I suck at 8-bit MM, but I'm miraculously alright at MM9.

Added.

Ironic, seeing that's considered the hardest of all the 8-bit MM's.

It's miraculous, actually.

I've never played it, but it's what the reviews say, and a couple other friends I have. But, seeing they only played a couple of the 8-bit Mega Man's............

MM9 is not the hardest.  It's the most challenging but not the hardest.

I would say the difficulty in MM9 is absolutely perfect.

You want hard and cheap?  Play MM&B

But we were talking about the 8bit Mega Man games.

Although I do agree with MM&B being hard and cheap.

MM1 is MUCH harder than 9.  The shop system alone makes 9 one of the EASIEST.  Even if you choose not to buy a thing or pick up any E-tanks, it's still easier than 1.  1 had LEATHAL hit damage.  You can die in 3 hits from several bosses, and the stages themselves, while shorter than 9s, are generally built to have more challanges.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 1 January 2009, 23:05:16
I've never found MM1 to be hard. Ever. Even the lifts are easy to get use to.

And with the select button trick, it's even easier.

Post by: NovaMan XP on 2 January 2009, 01:05:53
Even though NOW I think MM1 is easy... it's a real pain if you don't know what you're doing.

Seriously. Yellow Devil and Elec Man define that.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread

MM1 is definitely the hardest.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread

I've never had much trouble with MM1. My first time through was a breeze.
I suck horribly at the other 8-bit Mega Man games, though.

I never found MM1 hard. MM2 was definitely easier, though.

Not it's fortress stages. Those are just ASS.

Really, why DOES Wily have to be such a dick?

You should Ask Dr. Wily.

I read that whole comic. I don't remember him saying anything about this. Then again, it was long, and I only read it once........

The only hard MM game is MM&B.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 3 January 2009, 01:53:42
And MM&B 2.

What about MM8? "Slide! Slide! Jump! Jump!"

nuff said.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Xero on 3 January 2009, 01:55:16
Not too difficult.  Astro Crush makes good hang time in Wily 1.

I maintain that MM&B is not hard.

What about the king tanks, or Perfect King?

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Mikero on 3 January 2009, 02:53:51
They're not harder than any boss. Learn the pattern, knock the #####wad out. Did you play as only one of them? If you go through the game with both you see how it's not really that difficult, they're just each suited for specific tasks.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 3 January 2009, 03:19:53
I never beat the game with both. I beat it with bass, then made it to the last King part of the second King stage as Mega Man, and that's it. I had an easier time playing Mega Man Zero.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Mikero on 3 January 2009, 03:27:24
Mega Man Zero is awful. It's not really hard, it's only hard to get the ranking all the time because rankings are moronic.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 3 January 2009, 03:29:39
That's the only problem I have with the game.

BTW, I like that series.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Mikero on 3 January 2009, 03:39:23
It's OK the like the series, I guess. I realize the story could be interesting, but I hate it for a lot of reasons other than ranking and how the plot assrapes the X series.

I would like it more if it was just a completely separate thing that didn't try to connect to X (and Legends!) or pretend to have the same characters in it. But that's an old rant and I've got better things to do plus I don't really want to scare you away since you seem like you could become a decent member even though I have to disagree with you a lot.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: preventerWIND on 3 January 2009, 03:48:17
I have mixed feelings about the rankings, I mean, it's a cool idea since Zero's the kind of person who is known for his "precision" or something. But it turned out ##### when people played the game, you could kill all the enemies in the stage and get a ##### rank for the enemy area..

But I don't worry, because I always get A's! Hahaaaa!

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 3 January 2009, 03:48:57
Well, I am easily amused with Mega Man related things. I even like Star Force.

But, for me, the only real problem I have with the Zero series is how they had to change the art style so drastically.

BTW, that's a pretty low score, Rez.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: NovaMan XP on 3 January 2009, 05:03:17
Actually, over 9000 could be any number from 9001 to infinity, so it could be a really high score actually.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 3 January 2009, 05:04:41
I better change it to number two then.

Who in their right mind considers MM9 the hardest of the 8-bit MegaMan's?

Clerks at a video game shop at the flea market I frequently visit not only said that, but that it was the hardest out of all of them.

Yeah.

Try Mega Man & Bass and the first Mega Man plzkthxbai.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 3 January 2009, 06:55:45
MM9 WAS hard. At first.

But after getting used to it and learning the stages and boss patterns its quite easy.

However, Protoman mode is one of the hardest things I've done.

I don't think I'll ever beat Wily as Protoman.

Also, MM&B is pretty easy. King with Bass is the only annoying thing, really.

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: Shawn on 3 January 2009, 06:57:23
Why? Is Protoman weak in MM9?

So suckish control?

Title: Re: The Mega Man 1 Score Thread
Post by: ChaosVortex on 3 January 2009, 07:03:02
Capcom trying to balance things out.

You get a charged shot, slide, and a crappy shield to block certain shots.

In exchange, you take double damage, and you only shoot 2 shots at a time instead of the normal 3.

By the way, Proto Man hates shopping. The slide is nearly useless since the game doesn't implement it all that much and certain bolts that were accessible from sliding are gone so woopdeedoo.

Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 3 January 2009, 07:20:33
He also slides farther when he gets hit.

Worst parts are in Hornet Man's stage (with the walking over the spikes and the scissors flying at you) and Wily Stage 3 (with the 1-Up Met while jumping on one-tiled blocks).

Hm, I thought it would be easier to play as him, seeing that he's apparently strong and all.

Anyway, anyone else have a score? Like, a REAL score? If not, go and play MM1 and get one. If you want to, that is.

I'm not gonna bother getting "score" in a game with such a broken system.

Just run off screen and kill the same enemy multiple times. Infinite score.

I once tracked a Game Rumplestiltskin through the North-Eastern regions of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, but it doubled back in it's own tracks or something 'cause I lost the scent somewhere outside the Bolan Pass in the Balochistan province.

Another time, I uncovered a gaggle of Game Griffons in American trainyards, but their powers only worked on board games I learned. the. #####ing. lesson. from that movie "Jumanji". And to a lesser extent "Zathura"...
