Title: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 12 April 2011, 23:26:09
New Humble Indie Bundle (http://www.humblebundle.com/) is out, this time with games from Frozenbyte. If you aren't familiar with the Humble Bundles, they're groups of DRM-free games for any price you name that are compatible with Linux, Mac, and Windows. The money you spend goes to charity and the developers, with you choosing how much to give each. You can even get codes to redeem the games in Steam, if you feel you must use it.

This bundle includes:
  • Trine
  • Shadowgrounds
  • Shadowgrounds: Survivor
  • Splot (It's not out yet, but once it's released it'll be available to download)
  • Jack Claw (A tech demo, essentially. Make of it what you will)

It'll be up for two more weeks.

Never heard of them, no interest, really. May grab them all for $10 though.

I got the last humble indie bundle, which contained great games like World of Goo and Penumbra (made by creators of Amnesia) for the price you wanted to pay for.

Never heard of any of the games in the New Humble Indie Bundle except Trine, I'll have to think about it.

I still haven't touched the games from the last Humble Bundle I got, which had Braid and... others.
They're just sitting uninstalled in my downloads folder.

Too bad I missed the Penumbra one. I only got the other one because Chaos facebook'd it and I heard good things about Braid.

You're talking about the second Humble Bundle as the one you own, yeah, Majikn?
Because, provided you still have the url, you should be able to download the first bundle as a bonus due to it being added onto the second as a reward for the second making so much money.

Wow, really? Thanks for telling me.
Checking email...

Got the URL. That's awesome. I completely missed the email explaining that to me.

I can vouch for that. Coop is great fun when you have someone over, though shame it isn't online. Its also a very pretty game.

Bumping this because a new Humble Bundle is out.
Humble Bundle #3.
As usual, you can name your price, DRM free, can be found here (http://www.humblebundle.com/), etc.

The games this time are:
  • Crayon Physics Deluxe
  • Cogs
  • VVVVVV
  • Hammerfight
  • And Yet It Moves

Yeah, of the above, I've honestly only heard of VVVVVV, which, in itself, is a great game worth nabbing the bundle for. The rest are a complete mystery to me, though, and, considering I already own VVVVVV, I may just skip this one.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Johncarllos on 26 July 2011, 23:16:19
Purchased!
I was above the windows average on payment.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Fatso on 27 July 2011, 02:18:08
VVVVVV is awesome and everyone should play it.

The other games looked good enough to warrant my purchase, so I did it.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Professor Hazard on 27 July 2011, 18:29:38
The choice was taken out of my hands! Someone at SHM bought it for me as a gift, after which I was pleased to find it comes with activation codes for Steam.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Johncarllos on 27 July 2011, 22:41:17
The activation on steam is what sold it for me. I like all my games in one place.

It irks me that EA is ditching Steam in favor of Origin.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Professor Hazard on 28 July 2011, 04:00:07
Couple that with the fact that EA bought PopCap, and you got a recipe for... crap!

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Majikn on 28 July 2011, 19:11:52
Really?

When the alternative is DRM free, I don't understand wanting required internet access just to play your games.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Professor Hazard on 28 July 2011, 19:17:35
It... really only matters to someone who isn't connected to the Internet, all day err day.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Majikn on 28 July 2011, 21:18:42
I still prefer the given alternative.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 28 July 2011, 22:54:41
I prefer not having DRM in my games either.
Not to say that I hate Steam, I think the service is fine enough, but provided there's an alternative, especially one that is DRM-Free, I'll typically not buy from/use Steam.

Anyway, what's somebody's opinion of And Yet It Moves?
I've been looking around and it seems pretty good.
Enough so that I may revise my previous stance on purchasing this bundle.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Johncarllos on 29 July 2011, 03:38:15
And Yet It Moves is a neat puzzle game. ultra indie.
I'll beat it and never go back to it.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: MOX on 29 July 2011, 06:37:11
At least with steam you just need internet to download the game and then after that you can play offline if you really want to. (even on multiple computers). Plus I like the automatic updates and the fact that I can download all my games conveniently from one source at pretty good speeds.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Johncarllos on 29 July 2011, 12:42:51
And I love the sales.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle

And Yet It Moves is a neat puzzle game. ultra indie.
I'll beat it and never go back to it.
That's what a lot of games in the bundle look like.
That said, I'll still probably end up nabbing this bundle once my bank issues are taken care of.

Oh, and if you buy now, you get to play Minecraft for free until August 14th.
Neat if you don't already own the game or were on the fence about buying it, I suppose.

And I love the sales.
Pretty much the main and only reason I buy from Steam beyond Valve and (some) indie games.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Majikn on 30 July 2011, 04:46:42
Why do I feel like we've had this exact conversation before?

At least with steam you just need internet to download the game and then after that you can play offline if you really want to. (even on multiple computers).

I double click "Portal 2" and it literally asks me to sign in to play.

But yeah my whole point was that with the Humble Bundle you get this setup file that you can use anywhere without internet access, and there already IS a sale. And you can use it even if Steam just happens to be down for whatever reason.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Johncarllos on 1 August 2011, 02:53:19
I donno about you Maj, but I NEVER have to sign into Steam. I just open it on my computer and it's 100% ready to rock.
Maybe it's a Canada thing, or that you used the PS3 code for the PC version.

Also, all my Steam games still work seamlessly without internet access, I just launch them in offline mode.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 1 August 2011, 08:58:42
Well, I nabbed the bundle. Pretty neat games overall.

Crayon Physics Deluxe is a fairly fun puzzle game with some really nice music. The game's soundtrack is one of its high-points. It seems like the game wants you to just have fun with it, as well, as opposed to being the best. Unfortunately, the Linux version of the game requires so much effort on the user's end to get it working that I'd almost say it's completely unacceptable for a commercial product to be released in this state. Not that, I assume, most of you here will have to worry about that.

Cogs is an alright puzzle game. Nothing too great. Seems like it could be fun to mess around with, but I don't see myself playing it that much.

VVVVVV is still great and every one of you should play it.

Hammerfight seems like some pretty decent fun. I'll have to get use to the controls, though. I found myself being hit by my own hammer more than the enemy's.

And Yet It Moves is pretty much exactly like John said. It's alright, but I don't see myself playing it again after I complete it.

Also, all my Steam games still work seamlessly without internet access, I just launch them in offline mode.
Steam does "phone home," so to speak, every month or so you don't sign in, though, forcing you to do so at that time. So, really, offline-mode should be more accurately described as "temporary offline-mode."

Or, at least, that's how it use to be.
From my understanding, though, it hasn't changed anytime recently.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 4 August 2011, 09:34:35
For those of you who bought the bundle prior to today, you now have the second Humble Indie Bundle added on to the third as a bonus. For those of you who haven't bought the bundle yet, you have to donate at least more than the average to get the second Humble Bundle added on.

Neat stuff, although, I already own the second bundle.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Fatso on 5 August 2011, 08:24:46

Atom Zombie Smasher.
They really are pulling out all of the stops for this one.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Yubi Shines on 14 August 2011, 08:12:45
I mostly got the Bundle because VVVVVV's music is so good. SO GOOD.

...Overall, though, I prefer the games in the second Bundle to this one. Osmos is weirdly satisfying, as is Revenge of the Titans, although I have to be careful when playing tower defense games since they're the worst offender when it comes to me going, "Oh, I'm just going to load this up for fifteen minutes, I don't think I'm going to enjoy this that much WAIT, WHERE DID THE SUN GO? WHY IS MY ROOM DARK? WHY AM I SO HUNGRY?"

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Johncarllos on 14 August 2011, 14:12:38
I can really only see myself beating And Yet It Moves, VVVVVV, and Osmos. I already beat Braid to pieces, but didn't get all of the secret stars, but screw that, another 5 hours is a no-go for me.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: ASR on 17 August 2011, 04:01:17
Osmos crashes my computer, but I ended up playing it on my iPhone and it was pretty fun. Not as great as everyone was making it out to be.

Revival for another Humble...er...Game.

The Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle. (http://www.humblebundle.com)
Which, really, isn't a bundle at all.
No.

Essentially, Frozen Synapse is a turn-based strategy game and...That's really all I know about it. I've heard good things. Most reviews of it tend to be in the 8-10/10 range, so it seems to be well liked. The "Bundle" comes with the game and its soundtrack, together normally running ~$31 or so. This "Bundle" is also the only way to get the game natively for Linux.

Same rules as before apply:
  • DRM-Free
  • Cross Platform
  • Name your price
  • etc

On top of that, if you happen to pay more than the average, you get the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle (first bundle advertised in this thread) as a bonus, which is worth getting for Trine alone (provided you don't, y'know, own it already).

This deal is going to last for about two more weeks.

New game has been added.
Trauma - A neat little adventure game.
Played it for a while and died.
Could be alright.

Oh, and the bundle actually comes with three albums all made by the co-founder of Mode 7 (the guys who made Frozen Synapse).

One of them is the soundtrack itself.
Another is an album he did.
And the last is a chiptune album he made under a different name.

Pretty neat little bonus.
I actually like his chiptune and other album better than the soundtrack.

New game.
SpaceChem.
No clue what it's about.

And I love the sales.

That's what got me into Steam. I'm still not big on DRM or even digital downloads (with or without an account system) but Steam's sales free-to-play stuff definitely give it a good edge over some other services.

It's just generosity and goodwill for themselves, I'd think. Appearing so benevolent only makes people want to donate more.

MOST.
DEF.

Another new bundle is out. (http://www.humblebundle.com/)

This time it comes with:
  • Jamestown
  • Bit.Trip Runner
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Shank
  • NightSky HD

And, if you pay more than the average price you get:
  • Gratuitous Space Battles
  • Cave Story+

I threw down $10 for Cave Story+ and Super Meat Boy alone.
Haven't really heard of the other games, but they all seem pretty decent.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Fatso on 13 December 2011, 22:04:57
Jamestown is a cool vertizontal shmup in the vein of Giga Wing and Mars Matrix - probably the best of its kind to come from this side of the Pacific in years. I've had hours of fun at it, between improving my scores and bumping up the difficulty ever higher (disclaimer: I'm a bit of a shmup enthusiast) (other disclaimer: you'll have the most fun with this game if you have a good arcade stick).

Going in for the same two you mentioned, though.

HUMBLE INDIE BUNDLE 5 IS OUT, BITCHES.  (http://www.humblebundle.com/)

Four games, DRM-free, for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

The main bundle includes:

  • Amnesia: The Dark Decent
  • LIMBO
  • Pyschonauts
  • Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

And, if you pay more than the average, you get Bastion, as well.

I've already purchased.
The bundle is worth it for Psychonauts and LIMBO alone.
Bastion and Amnesia are pretty good, too, from what I've heard.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle

Worth the extra money.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Majikn on 5 June 2012, 03:26:26
I attempted to lower the average for everyone else instead of getting Bastion, because when I got it I wasn't sure what to think of the game. I realized that might have done absolutely nothing if the average was the median or the mode instead of the mean, but oh well.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 7 June 2012, 22:26:57
The Bundle now has new games for those who've paid above the average:
  • Lone Survivor - Some retro-esque adventure game about surviving zombies or something.
  • Braid - Puzzle platformer that has been in prior bundles.
  • Super Meat Boy - Another game from prior bundles.

I've spent almost 30 dollars so far.
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
Fallout 3 GOTY
Trine 2
Cave Story+

Yup. Apparently I have been converted to digital media. At least, Steam-wise.

If anyone wants to multiplay Trine 2, let me know.

Now I need the time to play everything...

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: Speed Racer on 22 July 2012, 15:32:59
I just bought the Star Wars: Jedi Knight pack, Cyan Worlds (Myst and the like), the Streets of Rage trilogy, and Virtua Fighter 2.

I'm a little pissed with Virtua Fighter 2 because I didn't know it would be the Sega Genesis version, as I had it for PC years ago. Suddenly it makes sense why there aren't any other Saturn titles on Steam...

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 18 September 2012, 19:53:00
You know what time it is, mother#####ers!
It's Humble Indie Bundle time!

Humble Bundle 6 (http://www.humblebundle.com/)

Contains:

  • Rochard (A puzzle action-platformer)
  • Shatter (Some brick breaking game that could be decent)
  • S.P.A.Z. (Don't know what this is like. Full title is Space Pirates And Zombies. I thought it looked kind of RTS like, but some people are equating it to a top-down shooter. Looks alright.)
  • Torchlight (Action RPG in the same vein as Diablo)
  • Vessel (A neat looking puzzle platformer about liquids)

And, if you manage to pay more than the average, you also get:

  • Dustforce (A 2D action platformer about...Uh...Janitors? Janitorial staff? Saving the world? I don't know.)

This bundle seemed a bit underwhelming to me when I first looked at the selection of games, especially considering I already own Torchlight. Although, after seeing a few videos of some of the games, reading reviews, getting opinions, etc., I was sold. Vessel, Rochard, and S.P.A.Z. alone got me to get this. Plus, a DRM free copy of Torchlight for Linux is always nice.

Anyway, same stuff as before.
No DRM, on all major computer OS's, Steam keys if you pay more than a dollar, supporting charity, etc.
This bundle is definitely worth getting if you don't already have Torchlight in some form.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: ASR on 20 September 2012, 08:45:17
Dustforce is the BEE'S KNEES. Vessel is pretty cool and I've heard good things about SPAZ but it ain't my bag. Get this one for Dustforce alone (you need a gamepad, though, trust me.)

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle
Post by: saldite on 20 September 2012, 18:41:27
I've heard a lot of good things about Dustforce. I haven't played it yet since I can't get the Linux version to work right. I'll probably give it a week and try again when the bugs are ironed out as I can't be arsed to install the Windows version in Wine. It looks like easily the best platformer of the the games presented, though.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle

I recently got HB6, The first impressions of Rochard, Shatter, and Dustforce are favorable. I'll have give Tourchlight and Vessel a second chance, later, but currently I'm disappointed by them. S.P.A.Z. is... so bad.  It made me think of Alien Swarm.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle

EEEHHH,

I finished Rochard...

if you like story driven games that don't gaybash half way through... Rochard might not be the game for you...

I actually found myself agreeing with the following review: http://www.crit-hit.net/rochard/

Still not a BAD game, but the controls are solid enough, but the story, humor, and the feeling of completion are utter fumbles.

There's a new humble bundle up.
Humble Indie Bundle 7 (https://www.humblebundle.com/).
Includes:
  • Snapshot (Pretty decent puzzle platformer)
  • The Binding Of Isaac + DLC (Already have this from another bundle, but it's good to have the DLC. Not a bad game. Pretty fun)
  • Closure (Another puzzle platformer. Never played it. Apparently pretty good.)
  • Shank 2 (The first one was pretty decent)
  • Indie Game: The Movie (Could be an alright concept if they actually picked less pretentious game creators to center the movie on)

Pay more than the average and you get:
  • Dungeon Defenders + DLC (Apparently a pretty good RPG/Tower Defence hybrid)
  • Legend Of Grimrock (A really good, old-school first-person RPG. I really like it at least)

Anyway, DRM free, charity, all major OS's, pay what you want, blahblahblahbuyit.

Humble Double Fine Bundle. (http://www.humblebundle.com/)

Includes:

  • Costume Quest
  • Psychonauts
  • Stacking
  • Brutal Legends (pay more than the average)
  • Broken Age (pay $35 or more; new adventure game that they're making from their Kickstarter)
  • T-Shirt (pay $70 or more)

I already own Costume Quest and Psychonauts, and I have no interest in the other games aside from Broken Age, which I'll get eventually anyway, so...

But, yeah, Psychonauts is a good reason to get this bundle if you don't own it.

Title: Re: New Humble Bundle

I already have and have beaten psychonauts, but Stacking looked like a fun little game, and I always get the urge to play Brutal Legend once in a while just for the music and atmosphere.

Not the boss fights though. Ugh.
I bought it yesterday as soon as I saw the email.

  • Awesomenauts (apparently good?)
  • Capsized (A platformer game I've had my eyes on for a while now)
  • Thomas Was Alone (never heard of it)
  • Dear Esther (Looks pretty)

Pay more than the average and you get:
  • Hotline Miami (Easily the best game in the bundle and more than worth getting)
  • Proteus

mac, windows, linux, charity, ##### it

I got it for Capsized, Dear Esther, and Proteus.

I've beaten Dear Esther 3 times now. good little 1 hour game. Lots of fun stuff to think about. It can change every time though.

On top of the new bundle, there's also another weekly sale.

https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly (https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly)

It's a Telltale sale.
Games include:
  • Back To The Future: The Game (not too bad if you're a fan of the movies)
  • Sam And Max: Devil's Playhouse (easily the best game in the series next to Hit The Road)
  • Poker Night At The Inventory (apparently pretty funny?)
  • Hector: Badge Of Carnage (port of iOS adventure game; they're okay)
  • Puzzle Agent 1 & 2 (I heard these were pretty fun)
  • Wallace And Gromit's Grand Adventure
  • BEAT THE AVERAGE: The Walking Dead (I own it, but have yet to play it)

All of these are for Steam on Windows and Mac only.
I'm probably not going to buy this because I already have all the games I'd want from it, but, still, not a bad deal if you like PnC adventure games at all.

EDIT: Apparently everything BUT The Walking Dead is available as a DRM-Free download on the Humble Page when you buy the games. Only The Walking Dead actually requires Steam at all.

Awesomenauts is pretty boring.
Little Inferno is made by the world of goo people. Don't have it, but want it.
Everything else of the HB8 is new to me. Probably not going to beat the average.

Going to get the telltale sale.  But the bttf game can suck my dick.

Little Inferno is neat but overshadowed by how great World of Goo was.
Thomas Was Alone is fantastic but I haven't thought about it much since playing it.
Dear Esther is pretentious and artsy but I had a good time with it. Real short.

Hotline Miami, though? One of the best games I've played in years. Absolutely phenomenal. The Bundle is worth it for this game alone.

Just the name "Hotline Miami" screams 80's. I don't know anything about it but it sounds like a new version of Dream Phone but with more hypercolor shirts.

New Humble Android bundle is ok but not as incredible as some of their offerings.

Rochard is on sale there too, and it's easily worth a buck.

Humble Origin Bundle is up and it's an insanely good deal.

I was just about to post about that since I forgot to post about the Deep Silver bundle.
Despite being an EA funded bundle, none of the money goes to them.
All of their shares are going to charity.

Plus, a lot of the games have Steam keys instead if you don't want to use Origin(although, IIRC, some of them do that double DRM ##### that Ubisoft loves to do where you log into Steam and then Origin/Uplay when you start the game).

Either way, a really good deal.

Already have Dead Space 1, but I got it for Dead Space 3, Crysis 2, and Mirror's Edge.
I'm hoping that the first Crysis will be added in at some point later on in the bundle.
