I went into Boston again, to look at more places.
Three in fact. One scheduled earlier in the day, and two at night.
Right after I got to Boston around 2:45, the earlier one canceled. One of the night ones canceled on the train.
#####.
So basically, I had to kick around for three-four hours, and went to the only mall I know of in town.
Went to Barnes and Noble, and delighted to see a Will Eisner's Spirit pop-up book, LoEG, this big 24 best crime stories book (two penned by Alan Moore, and sadly, only one Spirit story), among other things.
And lo and behold, there it was. The deceptively hard to find book that I always check for when I enter a book store...
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
I read Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul ('bout... Five years ago), and wanted to read the first one ever since!
And it was pretty cheap too!
And the check-out girl, I think was awkwardly flirting with me, and I may have. awkwardly, flirted back. I have no idea. I am incredibly dense when it comes to situations like these anyway.
I went to see the one place that didn't cancel on me. It was alright, but might be too expensive for me. Oh well.

I'd weep for what's become of it, but emo kids stole crying too.
Damn emo kids. My neighbors have a bunch of them, keep then it little stocks, and let them run around in their backyard. I don't know how many times those big bastards knocked down my fence, running fast, and breaking my windows with their beaks! Making loud, booming, drumming noises all hours of the night! They broke my cat's PSP! They ate my prize bug collection! Do you know how hard it is to get a Bogong moth this time of year?! My lawn is always getting eaten and dug up by these bastards. I can't wait until spring, when my neighbors are finall gonna take these things to the butcher. I HOPE.

Yep, read Salmon of Doubt. 11 chapters, yeah, originally going to be the third Dirk Gently, but Douglas said it had more a Hitchhiker's feel to it and was thinking of turning it into a sixth book. Dirk's in it, yeah, but no Zaphod. Dunno' where you got Zaphod from. But yeah, it was hell to read, because it was literally JUST the set-up of what was going to be an amazingly creative novel. Great stuff about the Schrodinger cat in there. And now we'll NEVER know where he was going with ANY of it.
But yeah. That doesn't mean I want someone else writing a sixth book just because it isn't there. That doesn't even make sense. Why did anyone even let this happen? The Hitchhiker's Guide series DID end. It had an ENDING. It wasn't like Adams died before finishing off a major cliffhanger. It was a nicely rounded-off ending, if a bit grim.
There is no need for anyone to write a sixth book.
I'd love to boycott it, but of course I'm going to read it. There's no way I won't be able to. But it's going to be really painful and I'm much more upset about this than I should be, but reeeeeeally.
Douglas Adams was a genius, and it's not at all possible that anyone else can live up to those books because they were so genuinely HIM. You can't just pass off the torch. You just can't.
And the thing is, Eoin Colfer is a GREAT author. I've read the first two Artemis Fowl books and they are actually really, really good. I read one of his other books, too, The Wish List or something. Decent. Didn't read the third Artemis Fowl. But my point is... I don't CARE how good he is. He's just not Douglas Adams, and he has no right writing a sixth Hitchhiker's book.
Bleh, it's been about five years since I read Salmon of Doubt. It was going to feature Zaphod in it eventually, or would have in a rewrite. I don't remember, and don't have the book nearby to refresh my memory. But what is this about someone else writing another Hittchhiker's book? I have not been paying too much attention.

So, I went apartment hunting in Boston, yesterday and today. First place was alright, and I was all set to movie, pretty much. My dad wired me some money for a deposit. Unfortunately, my ATM/Debit card refuses to work for some odd reason. So, I had to go to the bank, but by the time I got the money, it was too late. Haha, yeah, definitely don't read Hitchhiker's Guide out of order. Especially since a lot of Mostly Harmless has to do with the whole Stravomula Beta thing that definitely made no sense to you.
BUT STILL. A SIXTH BOOK. WHAT.
Salmon of Doubt has the first 11 chapters, I think, of what was either going to be the sixth Hittchhiker's book, or the third Dirk Gently Book. It featured Zaphod and Dirk, IIRC.

Why do I keep watching Heroes?
I seriously want to know the answer to this.
Also, how is that Terminator show? I was scared away from the IP when the third movie left me wondering what I had just done with two hours of my life.
But I saw that preview at the beginning of The Dark Knight, and I'm starting to wonder if it isn't dead after all.
Probably to see what happens next. Personally, I think the show is better with the father back and being the main villain, since I really felt the show needed a main antagonist. I really really hate how the speedster girl is suddenly in love with Matt out of nowhere. And the stuff with Sylar.

Peter Pan, evidently.
I'd marry the Michelle Pfeiffer one. Which means I'd need a time machine. And Michelle Pfeiffer.
Also, a great pick up line.
How could a girl resist "I have a time machine, Michelle Pfeiffer." ?
You have to prove it within a few seconds or else it's "SECURITY!".

I heard that it's based off the first novel. Well, actually they took the first novel, and split it into four parts.
Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace being the first two parts.
Also, I think I'm the only guy on earth who was never relaly a Bond fan to begin with.

Also, a great pick up line. I don't think I would marry any fictional character. I'd definitely have a torrid affair with Tinkerbell, though.

I read to the max extreme.
But yeah, not everyone is gonna love Moore's style, it is just very very... Dense. Also, crammed with so much symbolism and double meanings and....
Every time I read Watchmen, I find something new. it's why I never get tired of it.
And even more, there are a lot of different ways to interpret that book, and that what keeps it interesting to me, and why it's one of my favorite comics ever.

I think the thing that annoys me about the movie is that it is so far removed from the message of the book, I am quite literally, disgusted.
The book was about anarchy, and ended on a much darker note.
Basically after not only gutting out the current government, but utterly destroying it, and the people's faith in it, Parliament blows up (more symbolic than anything), chaos ensues. For that one night everyone in London is truly free, no one is watching, no one is listening, and they can do as they please. Whether they want to keep it that way the next day is up to them.
The movie was about democracy, and ended with a much more optimistic ending.
"Okay, so we all marched out to the streets in costumes, someone blew up Parliament, and the revolution is over. Best regime change ever. Now let's go home with the satisfaction that we enacted change, but doing as little work as possible."
But I can get that it's kind of a hard read, not intellectually, mind you, but the writing is so damn dense, it's just like... You just have to put it down and say "#####, I can't #####ing read this now, I got a goddamn headache".
I know I can't read it through in one sitting. I don't think you're supposed to anyway.

Foil on plastic piping tube. When I originally made the costume years ago, I got some of the parts from the hardware store. = Badass.
There were two Luke Cages at the party I went to.
They're both copying my actual life.
One of them had a better costume.

In contrast I can't stand the movie for some reason.

So I got back from staying overnight in Boston again.
My girl took me to a Hockey Game, the first game this season that the Bruins played at home. It was against The Penguins, and as Alyssa (aforementioned girl) is from Pennsylvania, we went and watched.
After going in to Overtime, and then to the shootout, Pens won, 2-1, much to the dismay of every Bostonite there, and to the delight of Alyssa.
I of course, didn't particularly care about the outcome since, hey, The Kings weren't playing.
We had a lot of fun though, and she's coming over on Thursday this week, rather than me going out there for a change.

I don't think it counts, but I saw Kids in the Hall live a couple years ago.
Technically they're not stand-up comics, but everyone is talking about comics they've seen live soooo....
MY GOD, you lucky bastard.
I LOVE The Kids in the Hall. I must have seen like EVERY episode of their show.
What skits did they do?
I went to see them in like... 2004 or 2005, I think, I don't remember. Let's see, they did... Dr. Suess' Crucifix of Jesus Christ A new Heccubus sketch, where they made fun of Dave for being fat. The one where that kid loves GMILFs... I think they MIGHT have done a C/Kathy(s) sketch... There was a Buddy monologue, where he talked about having sex with Saddam Hussein... The "IT'S CITIZEN KANE" sketch... I think there COULD have been a Chicken Lady sketch, but there might not have been... And that's what I can remember off the top of my head. it was a great show, really funny! There was an intro video that shows what they were doing before getting the "call" to go do live KiTH shows. Dave was going to swim in the ocean or something, I forget why, but he ended off with saying "... or the terrorists will have truly won!", with very unimpressed on-lookers, before getting the call (A whistle) and saying "Oh thank Christ!". Mark was a janitor... Bruce was on a Blind Date type show. Scott was practicing to be the Aflek duck... I forgot what Kevin was doing. Ugh, I can't believe I remember so little. They MIGHT still be touring, I'm not sure.

Then go already, JEEZ. Posted on: 15 October 2008, 14:28:52
Well, I got back earlier today, and had to go to work, but now I am back. I had fun in Boston, my girlfriend's comic shop was having a Halloween costume party, so we went to that. I went as Drunk Tony Stark, and grabbed an empty Beer bottle there. She went as Black Cat. She uploaded the pictures on Facebook. I also got my hair cut earlier at that day from the manliest, no-bull##### barbershop EVER. Only cost ten bucks and lit looks pretty good.

Another movie is The Spirit. Yes, from the comic. Made by the same people that made Sin City, so this movie should kick ass.
Saw the trailer for this months ago, resolved to not see it because.. it looks ridiculous. The Spirit, if you've ever read the Eisner or Cooke versions, is a pretty seamless mesh of Comedy and Noir. The movie looks like it's gonna be Noir/Ridiculous.

Is that the Dreamwave where he's not only a Super Fighting Robot but also a kid in Middle School who's watch tranforms him into MM? I have the first Pocket book of that, but those scenes aren't in it (I think). It's drawn exactly the same. At the back is a preview of the X comic that apparently didn't happen.
That's because Dreamwave was shutdown because: 1) Pat Lee blatantly ripped off other famous works 2) Embezzled a lot of money, and ended up NOT paying a lot of his artists and writers. Also, I think some of the Videogame comics and stuff, he didn't actually have the rights to do them. EDIT: I could be wrong, this is just what I remember off the top of my head. Also, I'll throw up an RM design at some point.

I like Dwight's story best. He's definitely the coolest, even in the comics. Even with his different face(s).
Well, I've not read all the Sin City books, but most of them. I need to read like, Hell And Back and maybe one other one.
It doesn't matter. Because as cool as he is in the books, he's more awesome when he's Clive Owen.
I really wish they did Dwight's first story... First. Since I felt like I was missing something when I saw it in theaters. Also, I like A Dame To Kill For better than Big Fat Kill.
