Well, she's an Axl clone, that's strike 1.  Her forehead is gigantic, strike 2.  Her hair is floating wing things.  Strike 3.  Is it any wonder she's awful?
852  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 2 August 2018, 17:05:02
You just have to be moving, even if it's running into the wall and going nowhere.
853  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 2 August 2018, 14:53:50
It's the same way to get infinite lives in Contra 3.
854  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 2 August 2018, 14:52:05
Roll does sound very Opheliay.  But Jesus H. Christ "Mega" sounds horrid.  I get that they're just shorting Mega Man, but I think it would have been better to just say Mega Man or just use his name, Rock, rather than Mega.  It sounds too much like Powered Up's changing his ACTUAL name to Mega.
855  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 1 August 2018, 21:26:52
Is that retail yet or digital?  I have the first Ori, and just bought my friends Xbone for $25.
856  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 1 August 2018, 21:25:22
It would be nice if they got people who could play to do some of these.
857  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 31 July 2018, 18:35:39
I couldn't say, as I either played all X or all Zero BECAUSE it was bull##### if you alternated between the two you deliberately weakened yourself because you split the life upgrades between 2 characters.  You should have been able to collect all 8 with each character.  Just add that to the list of poor design choices X5 made.
858  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 31 July 2018, 18:00:47
Oh, for sure.  X5 could use some improvements, but my point was that while it retains some flaws it had on release, it got some fixes that improve it without having NEW flaws or removing content it was originally released with in the US.

To wit, it still has new opening and ending scores that replace the original Japanese opening and endings.  That might be debatable if adding them in would be an improvement though (if not a more accurate release).  But apart from that, you get into actual game design choices, which weren't localization/release edits.  Such as making Alia's comm calls optional/skippable as in X6 or the general level design or awful cannon/shuttle concept.  That would be more in the lines of a remake/re imaging.
859  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 31 July 2018, 15:27:22
Well, as happy as I can be with MMXLC.  It's far from a perfect release and the ports all pretty much have SOME kind of issues that I'll take the original release over, but yeah, for "this is what you get" it's probably the best release over all so far (and actually, I think X5 might just be better than the original release given it has almost no load times and a fixed translation with no known other issues/changes/cuts vs the original release).

X6 is not a good game, but by god it's better than X7 and X8 by a mile.  I will never play X7 or X8 again because they're such #####ty games.  I'd begrudgingly play X6 again if only because it's still an X game, just a bad one.
860  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 30 July 2018, 21:29:50
Got in my import MMXLC 1 and 2 today.  They are NICE!   Both come with some inserts about the mavericks.  Both boot right up to an all English title screen (except the logo is Rockman and the voice says Rockman X Legacy Collection).  The menus are on English by default!  Then you just left click the dpad and all the games are Mega Man X!  Super cool and easy!!  Plus, the Japanese versions do indeed have the original Japanese op/ed music that was cut out of the US release's "Japanese" version.

If you want these on the Switch, IMPORT!  This is by far the superior version of the games, plus you get them ALL on cartridge and the box art is 1000x better!
861  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 28 July 2018, 20:56:22
The X4 music loops seem different as well in MMXLC.  I noticed it on Zero's stage that the music loops perfectly smoothly now.  I need to check the other levels and see if they fixed that as well.  If so, I might have to do a new soundtrack for it.
862  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 28 July 2018, 07:47:38
Why don't we compromise and just say ##### X8?  Because it really is a piece of garbage.
863  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 27 July 2018, 15:55:02
I'm aware, but that doesn't make it look any more awful they they retroactively ##### up the picture on stuff to fix it.
864  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 26 July 2018, 22:20:13
I noticed the missing background in X4's intro stage.  I didn't notice any sound effects though.  I might if I go back and actually listen for it though.

As I said, the collection has some problems, they always do, and they're always enough to discount being able to accept them as a replacement for the originals.  Although I think MMXLC might be the best version of X5 available though (since it already had the intro/ending changed back on the ps1 and the ps4 fixed the horrid G&R names).

I AM glad we got the SNES X3 though.  Seriously, I hate the PS1/Saturn version.  The remixes are horrible and the animated intros really aren't anything to write home about.  Though in a perfect world we'd have gotten BOTH versions.
865  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 26 July 2018, 14:41:29
No, the import Japanese version has the complete English version, dubbed cut scenes and English dialog/text/menus, just like they were released in the US.  The difference is the Import version's native Japanese version has all the original op/ed music.  Even the US release of MMXLC has all the Japanese op/ed removed now (like IDEA from X6), replaced with generic music like X4's/MM8's opening and ending was back in the day.  Even if you switch the US version to Japanese, the replaced US version op/ed music remains.

So you can at least flip to Japanese mode after you beat the games to get the music from the original US release back.  But it seems the X4 cut scene censorship and #####ing epilepsy protection are present in all regions sadly.

The collection has some major issues, enough that I'd never be satisfied with it replacing the original releases, but I guess it will do to have on one platform seeing as I have all the originals.

I'm still just mad MMLC2 never got a retail even in Japan.
866  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 25 July 2018, 22:31:23
It will later.  If you wonder into an area that's higher level than you, you will be slaughtered (just like Dragon Warrior).  Improved equipment only help so much.  Later in the game I'm pretty sure you're expected to exploit the (intended) broken combos/skills in the game to be able to beat later bosses/areas/chapters.
867  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 25 July 2018, 22:28:53
The Japanese version has no subtitles on ANY version, but at least with the import version you get the original Japanese opening/endings and the bitch'n cover art!  And X Collection 2 on a cartridge (if you care about that) (you should).
868  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 25 July 2018, 16:35:01
Now I'm sorry they took out the infinite metals trick from X8 because if I ever play it again I can't bypass having to play it more to unlock #####.
869  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 25 July 2018, 15:48:56
This is another instance of kind of being lazy.  Fixing some things and leaving other awful things untouched (most of X6).  If you're going to clean things up, clean things up.

This release really seems to be keeping in the tradition of these collections having some major issues that necessitate keeping the originals around.  It's only good enough if you don't have the originals or means to play them, but it's an inferior experience.

Posted on: 25 July 2018, 13:34:02

So it looks like the Japanese Switch versions ALSO have multi language modes on them, including English.  So I ordered both Collections from Play Asia.  Now I have English versions of all 8 games ON CARTRIDGE, and get 100x better cover art.  Also, the Japanese versions actually have all the Japanese openings/endings that were removed from the US versions Japan versions.  So IDEA will still be on X6 and what not.

It's a shame Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 didn't get a physical release on Switch anywhere though.  Oh well.
870  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 25 July 2018, 02:34:38
The 3 wall papers are meh.  1 we've seen.  2 is ok, but has worst girl and is missing best girl.  3 is cool but is locked behind hard mode so no one will ever see it.
871  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 25 July 2018, 01:49:11
X Challenge is nothing but bullet sponges that never die and weakness weapons don't do ##### damage to.  Played a bit on normal.  My hand was cramped after 3 minutes from non stop wall climbing and charging and dash jumping.  I won't be going back to it ever again.
872  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 24 July 2018, 20:09:43
It's not even more strikes per turn, it's just that you do like 2x or 3x damage once you break their shields.  But they do suck up a lot of HP, that's for sure.
873  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 24 July 2018, 20:08:33
No Iris no Interest.
874  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 23 July 2018, 16:15:58
I started with Olberic because I figured having the damage dealer/tank as your main would make the rest of the game easier.  And it has.  I basically went counter clockwise from there, getting Teressa (for money/item help), Cyrus (for magic/mage stuff) and then Olphelia (healing).

After that I did some grinding and exploring before moving on to Therion.  I ended up swapping out Olphelia for Therion to use his steal ability in towns.  I've spent most of my time leveling and unlocking skills since then.  I've gotten 6 of the secondary job classes.  I finally went through and got Alfyn, Primrose, H'aanit.

I have NO idea how Alfyn's Concoct ability works, and there's no manual or tutorial on it so I'll have to look that up.  H'aanit is too pokemon trainerish for me, I'm not fond of her play style.  Primrose is all support buffs, which in this game don't last long enough to let you do anything.

I'll likely just slot in each of them into my main party of 3 others to do their quests.  I need to find the other shrines and get job ponts to buy innate skills.
875  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 23 July 2018, 14:33:43
Plus BS didn't have REVO doing the ost.  That was the single best thing about BD.

Octopath Traveler is a lot like Bravely Default in that the game expects you to figure out all the broken stuff in it to really do well in the game.  I don't really like that.  And if anything, the cut scenes in OT could do with having more party interaction (as there is literally zero outside of some party chat at designated points in each chapter).

Combat is a lot more balanced than in BD though, you can't just "BRAVE BRAVE BRAVE DEAD" every fight.  The boost mechanic is done differently and enemies have a shield system to work around.  I generally like it though.

The music is also damn good.  Not quite BD level, but definitely at the top of the RPG ladder.  I like most of the characters pretty well too.  Cyrus is my favorite and Tressa a cute.  But god damn, Primrose story is dark as ##### compared to the others.  It really felt out of place.  I'm about 25 hours in and still only beat 1 Chapter 2 story.  Most of it has been grinding xp, money, and save scumming to steal stuff.
876  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 23 July 2018, 14:26:01
I don't actually plan to touch that mode so it doesn't matter to me at all.
877  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 22 July 2018, 05:56:59
I'm playing it now.  It's damn good.
878  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 20 July 2018, 20:11:36
The difference was never that much for a similarly designed mostly human shaped Robot Master.  Most of them were maybe 3-5 pixels taller than Mega Man outside of your bigger less human shaped bots like Hard Man, Guts Man, and Frost Man.

Even comparing them to Mega Man, look at the scale for Light, Roll, and Auto.  The robot Masters would be bigger and taller than Auto.  They make Dr. Light look small.  No, the Robot Masters in 11 are just sized too damn big and it looks really really bad and out of place.
879  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 20 July 2018, 17:18:46
I'm now squarely in the opinion I do NOT like how the bosses are giants compared to Mega Man.  They're at least twice as big as they should be compared to Mega Man.  It is visually very jarring.  It may not have been as noticeable in 8bits, but this style is extremely stick out.
880  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 19 July 2018, 17:52:12
I know there are a few places that do that, yeah.  I have quite a few Limited Run Games releases.  While it's nice, it's getting dangerously into the territory of an "ultra rare premium SMAOUG must horde scalper food" industry rather than getting good games out in retail so people can actually own them.  That's not any better than digital only.

Limited Run Games has been a bit better of late doing open preorders instead of 2000 copies and that's it ##### for their Switch releases.  We need more models like that.  It will help cut into scalpers if production can meet demand on the front end.
881  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 19 July 2018, 15:35:29
But Mania + is the only physical release of the game.  Digital = dumb, never forget!
882  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: The Potential of Mega Man X9 on: 18 July 2018, 19:15:26
I'll be honest, I have no interest or excitement for an X9, because we know exactly what we'll get.  2.5D, at best.  It will leverage the lore HEAVILY into the game play and game design which will force it into the same awful path the last several games have had.  Gotta get closer to MMZ, right Capcom?

If this happens, it will take an act of god to get me to even look at it.
883  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 18 July 2018, 19:11:55
I think it's something that if you're going to do, put time and money into it and do it right.  This is really just a big "throw mismatching art pieces together and call it a new game mode" and it looks extremely amateurish and tacky.  AT BEST.
884  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 on: 17 July 2018, 20:25:20
It would have left less options, but would have looked a hell of a lot better.

Mashing up different sprite generations/styles is a bad idea.  When you have such a Frankenstein look to it (like every early 00's flash game/animation), it's probably best to just not do it at all.
885  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: The Potential of Mega Man X9 on: 17 July 2018, 20:23:22
Game play IS the key thing, but Jesus when EVERY other aspect of it is unsalvageable you hate to look at it, listen to it, or even play it.
886  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: The Potential of Mega Man X9 on: 17 July 2018, 18:22:45
You learn not to after endless disappointment.
887  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 16 July 2018, 18:29:42
It won't unless they do a "Select" release in a few years.  Nintendo stuff never drops otherwise.
888  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 16 July 2018, 18:28:40
Pig Ganon was never a huge ass colossus until the same OoT that decided to go with Gannondork over Ganon.  So really, no he can easily be Bowser size and be just fine and inline with what he actually is.
889  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: The Potential of Mega Man X9 on: 16 July 2018, 18:24:59
Jury's out on if MM11 makes 2.5D work, so for now I'd say I want to stay away from that style.

It's not though.  2.5D NEVER works.  It always looks like a bad doll house diorama or floating stage over a picture.  Gameplay is always kind of floaty or imprecise.  It is a literal inescapable part of doing a 2D game in 3D.  The best we can hope for is it's at the more playable/visual end of the spectrum.  But even that is significantly inferior to even a mediocre true 2D game.

That aside, things X9 needs but will never get are:

1) Pure action/arcade style levels.  No gimmicks (Slow "stealth", Bikes, All minibosses, Auto scrolling, etc, etc).  Just keep it to precise fast platforming that requires good reflexes and skill with smart enemy placement and stage layout.

2) Lose Axl.  Completely.  The gameplay suffers the more characters you add that have different play style.  You simply can NOT build a good stage and have it satisfying to play or play well like that.  The stages should ALL be built around X and how he plays.

3) Keep playable characters to X and Zero, and make you choose which one at the start and lock that in for the whole game.  This comes right off of point 2.  The stages should all be built on X, and Zero make navigating them easier in some places and harder in other based on how Zero controls.  X4 did it perfectly.  It also lets you tailor the game better to a "normal" and "hard" difficulty based on who you choose, and offers up a nice "2nd Quest" type situation with both characters games having different tie in parts.

4) Keep it 2D.  I already said why.

5) Bring back hidden items/power ups/secrets.  Bring back heart tanks, sub tanks, and weapon tanks and make them hidden in stages.  Have the order you beat stages affect stages you haven't been to yet, making them harder/easier/make it possible to get to a hidden item.  X1 is still the master of this, and it needs to come back.  And with being locked into a single character for a play through, you don't have to worry about not being able to max out your HP by swapping who gets a heart tank.

6) Focus on a nice self contained plot to wrap the game up in.  The lore is ##### show at this point.  Just ignore it.  Do a fun self contained story and ignore the train wreck.  Don't hint at the retarded ##### they've written themselves into.  Keep it simple and focus on the game play and level design over the plot.

7) Less is more.  Keep it to one armor for X, and let you equip each piece as you get it.

8) Lose the rescue #####.  It inhibits the quick game play the early games had and bogs things down.  And since we've removed the system of upgrades they were used for, they have no reason to exist anyway.

9) I think a 32bit style would look good, and if they want to make it look good, use HD sprites with good animation.

Basically, the early games were damn near perfect in balance and ideas.  I can honestly say X5 and up have added literally NOTHING worth keeping or implementing in the game play or lore department.  They only served to make things MORE needlessly complicated, annoying, and/or broken.

We all know Capcom will continue down the X7/X8 road though.  It will be lore heavy, it will bog down the actual gameplay, it will be 3D, it will have 30 playable characters, the level design will be gimmicks out the ass.  It will be needlessly complex and complicated.  It will have DLC out the ass.  The Switch port will have half the game on the cartridge.  And that's IF we get an X9.  Honestly, at this point, we won't get a good X9 and I'd rather not get a bad one.  Just let it stay dead.

I picked up Octopath Traveler today and got 2064: Read Only Memories for PS4 yesterday so I don't know which one I'll start...

892  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 11 July 2018, 21:48:34
Doom Guy would be fantastic.  But as far as classic Nintendo Legacy 3rd party, we still need Simon Belmont.
893  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 11 July 2018, 19:23:08
For a 1st party character, Nintendo should probably at least consider Ribbon Girl or  Min Min from ARMS. Those two are probably most popular characters in the game (as far as I know) and you'd be adding a character with entirely unique gameplay compared to the other characters. I see 'em working somewhat like Dhalsim does in Street Fighter, and there isn't really an extendo-character like that in Smash as of yet. Plus, from what I hear, the user base of ARMS saw a significant drop off when Splatoon 2 was released. I think that would a smart way to refresh some public interest in the property before a possible full sequel.

Min Min is a cute, but Twintell has "dat ass" going for her.  I do think an ARMS rep would be great though.  Also, we need Wonder Red from Wonderful 101.  That's a great game.  A Splatoon rep was on my list as well, but they're in now so that fixes that.

But my wish of wishes would be for Ganon to get in.  Not that #####ing Gannondorf #####, but blue pig Ganon.  the REAL #####ING GANON.  His iconic LttP version would be my pick for it.  It was too over designed in OoT.  He has that bad ass spear and his triforce of power is MAXIMUM!
894  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 11 July 2018, 19:16:17
Excuses are unexcuseable.
895  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Super Smash Bros Ultimate on: 11 July 2018, 14:28:11
I think either of them are ok (not great, but ok), but they just don't run into each other well.  They just kind of stop and then start the next tune.  I don't care for that in a medly.  Also they didn't even have the entire Skull Man part.

I think it would have been better to do them individually, like Spark Man and Air Man's from Smash 4.
896  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 11 July 2018, 14:21:55
You are wrong, yes.
897  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 10 July 2018, 16:51:18
The point was the DLC was on it's own cart.  If they did physical releases for it, DLC would be a lot more palatable.  Still bull#####, but at least easier to deal with.
898  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: Mega Man 11 on: 10 July 2018, 16:49:47
What you saw vs what it was
899  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 10 July 2018, 14:23:46
Well, I mean... Splatoon is primarily an online game and the DLC has an effect online play. I'm not sure how you'd make that be a physical release, really. Unless it was like you had to slot in the regular game card, and then switch it for the expansion like with Brood War.

That's how they're doing the expansion for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, on it's own cartridge.  I wouldn't be opposed to more stuff like that, or even a disc/cart with all the final DLC on it.
900  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 9 July 2018, 17:59:38
Splatoon could use a lot more single player stuff, so it's disappointing that Octo expansion is forever locked out as Digital only.
