By simple limitations of the first-person view for instance
That. First person limits what can be done simply by the perspective. And it's far more than just "changing the perspective". Like it or not the platforming IS a big part of Metroid since 90% of the extra ##### Samus picks up directly allows her to access more areas by being able to DO more platforming. Any FPS that ISN'T Wolfenstein for the Tandy has some element of level design that isn't just BOOM BOOM RELOAD BOOM BOOM. Prime, quite frankly is NO different. It's primary focus is on combat in a first person perspective and guess what we call that? Nintend: "It's a first person ADVENTURE!!!" No. No it's not. Myst is a First person adventure. Shadowgate is a first person adventure. Metroid Prime is a first person shooter. Metroid is an action adventure game. Not a shooter. And how anyone who plays Metroid Prime can call it anything more than a typical FPS with a few extra bits of back tracking and Metroid theme, let alone Metroid done right in 3D completely baffels me. Bottom line, the "Prime isn't Metroid" camp dosn't just bleat out "dur dur dur it's just not". Our arguments are just as detailed as the misguided brain slug victims who delusionally believe Metroid Prime bears any resemblacne to Metroid outside a name. Is Prime a good FPS? I guess so based on what people say. Hooray! Is it a good METROID game? ##### no. And that's ok. Just don't expect those of us who hate FPS to believe it is.

Zelda: ALttP. Super Metroid.
Both games I've played before, and I know are the best among their group.
And I'm now a proud owner of them both, thanks to the Virtual Console.
I own them both thanks to the SNES

That's just it. Outside of the change to in game physics and point of view, I thought it DID feel like the same game, for all aforementioned reasons.

MegaMan Series / Battle Network Series / Re: A good series gone bad
|
on: 3 January 2008, 05:31:51

Battle Network was a great series for the first 3 proper games, with 2 being the penicle. 1 was still good, but the internet was almost unnavigatable because no area was labeled and the program advances were obscure and crap. On the upside it did have the best chips and chip system for the most part. 3 introduced the navi customizer, but didn't (and the series never would) quite get it right in so far as having to redo the whole damn thing just to put one part in to do one thing. It also introduced the VERY bad idea of classing the chips and began the multi version ##### that really helped to ruin the series. 2 really got it all right. Fantastic Program Advances, good chip selection, net, undernet, not using the net for 80% of the game stages, not going overboard on fetch quests.
4-6, complete #####. Yes, 6 is still a terrible game. Sprites, plot, gameplay, music all severly downgraded. They also went bat##### insane on the versions cutting the game up which hurt it from a gameplay standpoint (as well as terrible chip selection). The side games are all even worse than the last 3 main games. Battle Chip Challange isn't a game you play, but a game you watch play itself. Network Transmission is a bastard hybred of Battle Network and 2D side scrolling Mega Man that fails in every aspect.
So yeah, that sums it up in a nutshell.

"Samurai X", or the OVAs were taken from a part of the Manga that was never animated, and done in a style that was about as close to the manga/TV series as Picasso was to DaVinci.
Skip the Samurai X ##### and read the Manga and/or watch the TV series to the end of the Shishio arc. Damn fine stuff. Though I reccomend the sub in this case for the anime.

My experience shows that people don't like it or if they do they conceede it's pretty much a FPS and not a Metroid game. Very few in the camp of "It's Metroid in 3D".

Prime 1 was pretty much a 3D Super Metroid
Uh... no? Like Mikero said, it's a FPS with a Metroid skin. It plays and feels nothing like Metroid. Take the original Doom and slap a Metroid patch on it and you have Metroid Prime. I've said it once and I'll say it again but any 3D Metroid would be modeled something like Mega Man Legends/Tomb Raider. Nintendo proved they can do 3D platforming in Mario 64. Imagine Samus exploring ruins and tunnels with the same solid 3D care. You won't of course, because the FPS drones have bought enough of Prime to legitimize it as "A True 3D Metroid", thus signaling the death knoll for the series. with some key differences.
Like not being Metroid in any way shape or form other than being called "Metroid"? Other than that it's EXACTLY like Super.

Rurouni Kenshin is actually one of the best shonan mangas ever done in my opinion. The anime, while it followed the manga was great. It was well animated and has one of the best composed scores. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.

Let me just summarize this page for you Aych.
Aych: [Insert joke here] Abe: Not funny. Aych: Oh, I'm sorry. You don't have to insult me. Jake: Dude. Stop whining. Aych: I'm not whining, this guy just insulted me. Xero: Who cares? Get over it. Aych: No, this isn't fair, waaahh wahhh.
Seriously. Don't be so dramatic and make a big deal about it.
Summed up well. Just let it go and move on Aych. Situations like this and how you handle them are how you are judged here. Everyone stumbles here and there. Learn to take an insult or two and when to dish em out as well. I would reccomend just letting it slide.

If we had a chance to forget MMX and play MHX in its first-time place, you'd think the same of the SNES version.
Except the fact you come across the first capsule in Chill Penguin's stage for a reason that's important to both the gameplay and story. Doing so gives the illusion that you "came across" the capsule in a way that lets the narrative introduce the existence of the capsules ("others are hidden") as well as introduce in a controlled manor some of the back story for X. All of this was done in a much more polished and thought out manor in MMX as opposed to MHX. It also sets up one of the most memorable and epic moments in the Mega Man mythos. "So... you've come." is one of the things that defines the X series for a lot of people and is as associated with MMX as much as MM2 Wily Stage 1 is with Classic. MHX's changes all reek of the new age Inti ##### that has made MMZ and ZX unplayable, and were changes that didn't need to be made in the first place. MMX is among the most perfect games in the entire franchise, and when you hone gameplay, design and music to that level, you don't NEED to change it. There's no need to make something "fresh" by changing it when it wasn't stale to begin with.

:: puts on rain coat and galoshes :: to me, it's all in the the controller. the wii mote is retarded,
:: golf clap :: Congratulations, that statement has made whatever you would have said after it irrelevant by the shear stupidity of your opening. The Wiimote, while not optimal for all types of games, especially for traditional type games (I'm looking at you Zelda) has insane potential and is the single best thing to come out of controllers since the Dpad. Nintendo's ONLY vice on it is that they need to learn when to use the wiimote and when not to. They had/have the same problem with the DS touch screen. and that's a gentle opinion from me, I just don't like it.
I don't have gentle opinions, I don't like "gamers" like you. no matter the generation, the playstation controller is the most annoying uncomfortable thing I've ever held, I just hate it.
The Dual Shock Playstation controller is the single best controller ever made. It took the Dpad and button configuration from the SNES pad, added more comfortable grip and added an extra set of shoulder buttons (which the new "trigger" style L2/R2 buttons being fantastic) as well as the analog sticks. The Dpad on the Playstation controller is nice and big and in the right place. Your thumb lays naturally over that spot the most comfortably at that level. Reaching down to where the analog stick is would be (and is) most uncomfortable on both the Gamecube and Xbox controller or ANY controller that puts the Dpad there. The reason the analog stick ISN'T uncomfortable to use there is because it's raised up quite a bit because it's a stick. So instead of moving over AND down, which is quite uncomfortable, you just reach over a bit. The only thing that's ever been bad about Sony's Dpad is the diagonals are sometimes tricky. But any Dpad outside of Nintendo is like that. now the 360, they got it all right.
There is so much wrong with your statement here I can't begin to cover it all, so I'll move on. everything is easy to access,
See my above post on the Playstation controller for the main points, but the Dpad and Left Analog stick are reversed and most uncomfortable. The Dpad isn't even a Dpad. It's a molded Dpad looking button. The rest of the buttons are exactly like an SNES/Playstation except they feel like they're on baked potato. The Xbox controller holds slightly less awkwardly than the Dreamcast controller, which was terribly designed. And that's the Small one, not the old original HUGE controller Microsoft had. and it feels like you're holding something, not just air,
As I said, baked potato. It's big and round and just has a very awkward feel to it. Even the Dreamcast and N64 controller didn't feel like "air", no controller does. it fits in my hand like a good knife handle should, and that my friends, is a good fit.
I imagine your hands must be quite odd. I believe someone was talking about microsoft and alto of buttons?
I don't believe any non troll or idiot ever said such a thing. And is an Alto of Buttons like a Symphony of the Night? If so it sounds pretty cool! yeah, you're not good at counting are you.
About as good as you seem to be at making intelligent arguments. 360: 8 buttons, 2 thumbsticks(with buttons underneath), back and start, doped, center button thing. PS3: same deal. and it's been that way from the start.
What is a "doped"? Maybe that's what all these "people" are complaining about there being too many of on the Xbox controller. but Nintendo, they're just dumb,
I'm sure Nintendo feels the same about you son. Naw, don't worry, they're too busy actually making games for a gaming system to concern themselves with people like you. the N64 controller was Shiite, duh to the fact that the whole 3 handles thing was crap,
The N64 controller wasn't actually THAT bad. The 3 handle thing worked very well from switching form holding it to use the analog stick for 3D and holding it like a Playstation controller for the Dpad. It's main vice was the C buttons, which were almost as bad as the old Sega pads 3/6 button layout. It's analog stick was also very unNintendo like flimsy. the GC controller, well, it was good, I have to admit, it was alright, but still, the nature of the buttons, seemed to, idk, they were meant to look good, not feel good.
The Gamecube controller is awful. Not only does it suffer from misplaced left analog stick/dpad but it's buttons are horridly placed. The dpad is also microscopic. It is beyond uncomfortable to use it at all. The button layout on the face is just plain bad. The classic SNES configuration/size/shape for A B X and Y is perfect. The Gamecubes warping, resizing/shaping, moving of them is far from optimal. Also, the Z button should have a counterpart to make 4 shoulder buttons. There is no reason why there should only be 3. Apart from that it holds a lot like a Playstation controller and is also generally comfortable to hold, like the Playstation controller. but even though I love the 360, Wii is winning, due to the fact that it's cheap, and everybody thinks it's fun, old people, young people, teenagers, everyone.
... I can't really say anything to make you look stupider than you already have with that one son. I think it takes a big man to admit his console. isn't winning.
It takes a bigger man to finish 2nd grade English to learn how to make sentences. The 360 is doing fine. There are plenty of "gamers" like you to keep it going and kill the hobby for the rest of us. So don't feel bad chumpo. And there we have it. Another in the ilk of the cancer that is slowly but surely killing the hobby of video gaming. What a pity.
