301  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 29 November 2011, 02:25:28
I'm playing Skyward Sword too, and I only just got a 3DS now because of the Zelda limited edition bundle.

How can I not admit that I love this game?
Then again, though, I'm now at the part where I have to return to the three different areas I've been to so far. I hope this is not as bad as I expect.

The only gripe from me is, coming out of Dark Souls with a seamless world, the loading transition that occurred when I first jumped off of Skyloft made me frown a bit. But that's not really a big deal is it? It's just that... it was played up to be such an exhilarating thing but it's not. It gets better once you're actually traveling the overworld, though.

I'm pretty happy and even if this game doesn't end up being everything I hoped, it's clearly got so much going for it and with the direction Nintendo's been going in I can only continue to have great expectations for what future consoles and the 3DS could do for new Zelda titles.

I'm pretty sure it was just as stupid as it could ever have been, regardless of the style.

But hey, that's interesting at least.

309  MegaMan Series / Classic Series / Re: You will die laughing. on: 2 November 2011, 06:13:52
I don't think I CAN physically play it anymore. I used to be pretty good at it, but my hands were smaller then. Now my hand gets too cramped up trying to hold my thumb over three buttons, and I never quite mastered using the L/R dash instead. Optimally I'd press down and B for dashing, but I don't remember if you could do that.

I still had it in mind to download it for Wii, I've just been very distracted with lots of other things.

Exactly.

When I'm weighing my options about which games I want to buy, I simply can't justify getting every single game that looks interesting, and I'm definitely going to prioritize an actual challenge.

You and your hype.

I'm pretty much done with Kirby. It's not for me. I think I should have realized that sooner than I did, but I'm glad I didn't buy Epic Yarn and I won't be buying this one.

I don't think that they're BAD, I'm just saying. If you said Mario and Zelda are for kids I would slap you, but Kirby IS for kids. I don't know how you can argue around that. I think Sakurai himself would tell you the exact same thing.

331  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: What if... Zero was a girl? on: 27 August 2011, 01:36:35
Are we lessening the idea that X and Zero can have a close bond just as they are?

X doesn't seem the type to just fall in love. Besides that, how is that even wired? Reploids are artificially built, not necessarily biologically reproductive. I understand how by design X may be similar to humans emotionally, and I understand that there's some vague attractions present in the series,
But seduction?
First of all, you're really suggesting that Light could seamlessly mimic or recreate the biology of humans? Because it's complex [/understatement]... but given that he could actually do this, wouldn't he just isolate what causes that behaviour and reprogram it, or are you saying that he couldn't rewrite it so it's still felt in a platonic sense but there are no biological tools for it to actually work? (maybe?)

It's an interesting idea, platonic seduction, and I can sort of see that it could happen as a weird behavioural glitch. Robots built to learn and make their own choices, on one hand, would simply decide that many human social cues are illogical and disregard them, but these robots actually choose to mimic human behaviour. I think that's a hint that there's SOME kind of human component involved in their creation.

But that's me not actually knowing much of anything about biology. These are all just a writer's guesses. I'd research it myself if I felt like it, but right now I don't.

Disclaimer: I fully realize that Architect was actually suggesting none of these things and I was just extrapolating randomly.
332  MegaMan Series / X Series / Re: What if... Zero was a girl? on: 26 August 2011, 18:07:03
The luscious locks. Sure.

I recall having an argument with my brother. I'm the one who insisted that he's male.

I also never understood the green boobs thing. It always seemed like a really immature joke that I was never in on. I never questioned the design nor cared until other people started pointing it out... how old was I at the time? I'm not sure exactly when but I was pretty young and immature myself and even then I was like "Really?"
I don't really like saying the word immature, because the people who use it tend to be really young teenagers who don't know a thing about maturity... but I don't really have a better one to describe exactly how I feel about this.

If Zero was a girl, he'd replace Alia and then he'd be a cheap playable knockoff of X in the last game.

337  MegaMan Series / Miscellaneous MegaMan Games / Re: Mega Man X: Corrupted on: 21 August 2011, 04:08:10
Dude, it's not that good... I mean I love it for what it is, but it's got nothing on the OST for MMX. For one, NitroFlasher seems to favour all of the same soundfonts for the main melodies, with a few exceptions. I think that's a mistake.

(EDIT: Apparently I've already said that, but it's worth repeating.)

All the same, I love Hurricane Hoatzin's Skyway theme and Plasma Puffer's Sewer Facility theme, among others that I've mentioned, and I like him as a composer in general. I feel like he's shining over everything that's happening with MMX: Corrupted right now, and his MMX metal mixes on top of that are awesome.

He's also got some cool Ocarina of Time-style songs intended for a hack project, like the Overture of Wind and the Hymn of Ice. (Even though I just noticed they both end on the exact same pitch which is weird.)
The music preview for the Ice Temple is also pretty creepy.
338  Non-MegaMan / Non-MegaMan Games / Re: What game are you playing? on: 17 August 2011, 05:56:09
I got Amnesia and the Penumbra Collection for $33.46 (CAD)!

I'm on Episode II of Penumbra right now. Playing them all up in order.

The first game... not so good.
It didn't have much in the way of explaining anything, but you could draw some conclusions based on the texts you would find. The combat mechanics sucked (you weren't really supposed to engage anything in combat anyway, so keep that in mind),
Some of the puzzles were kind of weird, in the sense that I would give up and use a guide a few times to figure out what to do. (For example I don't understand why you need an ignition key in a remote console to operate a giant moving vehicle...)
Also the atmosphere just lost its touch after a while.
I'll still maintain that it's a good game to introduce people to the engine, especially for people like me who are entirely new to the adventure/survival horror stuff, but if you've already played Amnesia and feel like playing Penumbra, you won't miss much by starting with Black Plague.

The gameplay with Black Plague so far seems just leagues better. There's MUCH more of a sense of danger and a necessity for stealth. The atmosphere is really unnerving. The story is absolutely delightful. Despite that it's completely scientifically implausible, just the concept of what's happening to the main character is so cool to me... I just think it was explained in the wrong way. I Am Legend (the book) described vampires with a compelling science, the same COULD have potentially been done for the Tuurngait, but that's a minor thing anyway.
There's also a character in it that I really like. He makes me laugh, despite (and probably because) he's a huge jerk.
I'm not too far in it because I'm too freaked out to play, so don't take this as my final word yet.

342  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 2 August 2011, 19:33:24
I don't think I'm limiting myself. I'm just not a connoisseur. I'm the kind of guy that would almost never watch movies, but I'm literally surrounded by them because of where I work, and it's the only social thing I have available to me.

I go into any movie hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but mostly I'm just bored. I feel like praising everything is itself very limiting. You have a good point in that actors are allowed, and probably deserve to take on fun roles, but I really don't think the only alternative is a film "made to make money." I think all or at least most directors and producers and writers should already genuinely enjoy what they do. It's just that these people make tons of money NOT to screw anything up, and they can either resort to easy clichés that people always just gobble up, or they can make art. SOMETIMES the in-between is fun and worth watching, but I guess from there it really depends on my personal taste of what it actually is.

I admit to my own biases against certain types of films, anyway. Gore flicks no. I've never seen a horror flick in general that I thought was genuinely disturbing. Romantic comedies tend to be all the same.
I've invested a lot of my time into the superhero movies lately and I think that was probably just dumb of me to do.
I tend to enjoy animated movies, though. I tend to frown on 3D but I don't go out of my way to avoid it.

People spend money to watch these movies. I frankly don't need to spend a dime. All I offer is a few hours of my time that would probably not have been better spent anyway. That's the only reason I end up watching these movies. If they were not offered free I'd be all "This movie looks like crap," and I wouldn't see it at all. I could buy like a trade paperback novel for the price of a movie, and while THAT medium can also suffer from bad quality writing, there's less involved when it goes bad, and even when it does, I still feel like I'm at least exercising some part of my brain and fuelling my own imagination with ideas.
343  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 2 August 2011, 09:06:06
I feel like The Dark Knight should have changed things. Forever.
I don't necessarily mean Nolanized... I mean done right.

Iron Man came along, as well, and there was hope. Then there was Iron Man 2 and news of a Spider-Man reboot; a kick straight to Tobey Maguire's face—to which I approve. I realize I'm in a minority when I say that I approve, but I approve SO hard.

But now it's 2011, and look what we got this year.

People should have started taking their superhero characters seriously, man.

I watch a movie for a good story. I don't care what genre it is, or how much action there is. I just want a GOOD movie, start to finish.
344  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 1 August 2011, 20:22:09
Remember when I said I hated Pirahnas 3D? Well, here's a gore flick with an actual PROPER tone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFFh25DmPNU
Looks like the whole movie is in the trailer though.

I'd put Captain America beneath X-Men: First Class. It wasn't spectacular but it was a solid movie, start to finish. I actually feel like The Green Hornet was the second/third best "superhero" movie of this year, even though we should all rightly hate Seth Rogen by now.
I really didn't like Thor or The Green Lantern—those movies were all special effects and I'm never impressed by special effects alone... as far as I'm concerned you should be working hard on your visual effects anyway, whether it's CGI stuff or makeup or just lining up the shot or holding the camera correctly. It shouldn't be the number one reason you're making a movie, and it should NEVER be the best part.
345  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The MOVIE Thread on: 1 August 2011, 09:24:17
Cowboys and Aliens just thoroughly bored me.
You can't deliver a half-good experience and expect me to acknowledge only the good parts. I'd rather just cut it in half. If I keep looking at my watch, I KNOW my time was better spent.

I don't know. Maybe every movie I see just sucks these days, OR it's just me being cynical and hating on EVERYTHING. Or maybe I just keep getting bored in general with movies, and have trouble paying attention...

But I liked the last Harry Potter, actually. I was overall quite satisfied. I also came out of the theatre thinking that I experienced something actually unique... as in, never felt before in a theatre setting. That feeling was some really intense nostalgia. Toy Story 3 came close... but I think Harry Potter totally overwhelmed it.

I'm interested. I like the premise and the style.

I respect you a ton so I've got absolutely no problem with you trying out any of my characters.

Wow, that completely caught me by surprise. That means a lot, thanks.

I don't know about using old sucky-ass drawings though...

I used it for lack of a better one, and because it's what you told me to use even though that was many years ago and the image itself was at least 2 years old even when I first saw it. I can easily go for something else. It's not at all a static thing, and I decided that you'd oblige to give a more fitting basic design if you wanted.

When it comes to the awkward sentence: I think I could easily fix it by not describing the bow itself in as much detail as I did. People have a general idea of what bowing looks like anyway, I guess.

Before I rewrite, I'm also thinking about adding more characters before going on with any kind of plot.
I have other ideas for:
Snare (Gimmicky, unsure. The idea for him fits better as a recurring villain much later in the follow-up fanfiction, because of the nature of his abilities.)
John (I've got a solid, workable idea.)
TheRedPriest (I might have cool role for him.)

Why do I feel like we've had this exact conversation before?

At least with steam you just need internet to download the game and then after that you can play offline if you really want to. (even on multiple computers).

I double click "Portal 2" and it literally asks me to sign in to play.

But yeah my whole point was that with the Humble Bundle you get this setup file that you can use anywhere without internet access, and there already IS a sale. And you can use it even if Steam just happens to be down for whatever reason.
349  Non-MegaMan / Any Other Business? / Re: The "How Was Your Day?" Thread on: 29 July 2011, 09:36:11
Cineplex had this Glee lip sync music video contest thing, and one of my friends was like "WE GONNA DO THIS" and she directed it.
I was considered "technical support". All I really did was wire my PC to this display hub... thing. All I know is it said video in, and there were a lot of green wires going out of it, so I took a chance and plugged it in to my DVI port. Then all of the TVs in the lobby were displaying a picture of an eye with the caption, "I am watching you."

I have this reputation, you see.

But yeah then a gal gave me a DVD to pop in. Then I was done for the next few hours until I moved over to one of the huge ass digital projectors we have for playing 3D movies, which was quite simpler.

It was an unique experience in which I did not go to bed until 5 AM because I was watching someone lip sync "peas and carrots" over and over again because he didn't know the words to the song.

It was actually not bad. They might win. The prize is something like 1000 dollars and a trip to Vegas.
