What the hell...NBC canceled Southland because it's too "dark and gritty" for a 9 P.M. timeslot, even though the first episode of the second season is to air two weeks from now and six episodes have already been filmed. Of course, they could just move it to a 10 PM slot - oh wait - they don't want to ruin Jay Leno's new show. Supposedly ABC may pick up the show because they've been looking for a cop drama for a while - here's hoping.

NBC really has it out for John Wells (the producer/creator/writer). They screwed Third Watch despite pulling great ratings, and now they do this to Southland.

I'm watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play against the Detroit Lions. Currently the Steelers are winning (YAY!), but I will be super-pissed if they lose to the Lions.

Apparently the Lions aren't too far behind. I keep talking to people who are really into this game right now.

The BC Lions are better than the Detroit Lions and are in a better league.

But basketball is better.

Sports aren't dumb.

Southland sucked, at least from what I watched of it.

Third Watch was also pretty boring.

Third Watch was a great show. My only problem with it was that as the show went on, it became more of a cop show than firemen/EMT/police.

Is Curb Your Enthusiasm on Sunday nights? I thought it was but it's not on megavideo yet. Maybe I just have the time wrong?

Yeah, it definitely went up on Megavideo and got taken down while I was asleep 'cause STC has links to "no longer available" videos.

*sigh*

I was able to watch some of the first half on youtube of all places but that's it. I guess I'm gonna have to do what you do.

My townhome complex apparently turned the internet down a few notches because torrents stopped working about a month ago and it takes almost a full day to download an episode of anything from any source. CYE and Californication are still downloading from last night with many hours left to go on both, and god help me if I can find a Dexter link and still be able to watch as soon as tomorrow. Everyone who's seen it is taunting me.

Weird. I got all the season 7 CYE episodes individually today, and surprisingly quickly. So though I've seen over half of them already, I'm sitting with some T-H-X giving food and watching them all again now.

Yeah, when I first moved in everything was lightspeed fast. I'm a little annoyed that it's going so slow lately. Last night's episode of CYE literally just finished downloading, and I've supposedly got 4 hours left of Californication, which has been going since around 2AM.

Well, I forgot about House and Heroes so it'll be a minute before I watch the newest Curb Your Enthusiasm so you'll probably still be ahead of me.

Posted on: 12 October 2009, 20:55:06

OK so... the past couple days in new TV for me:

Smallville: The most meh episode this season so far. Almost nothing about the main arc of the season, naturally. Crappy "zombies" and then they neglected a perfect episode to introduce or at least reference Solomon Grundy.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: Whole season has been #####ing ace so far, and it didn't stop with episode four.

Family Guy: I know a lot of people don't watch so I'll be quick, but the season premiere a few weeks ago was very awesome, the next episode was alright, and this week's episode was good. Your basic story of Peter doing some stupid thing with Brian and Stewie go off doing something else completely unrelated, but both were funny.

The Cleveland Show: I never expected to like this show... but I really do. The premiere was... It was a series premiere. It wasn't great, full of character introductions, but the last joke in it is my favourite of the series so far. The past two episodes got progressively better so I guess I'm on board.

American Dad: Like Family Man, American Boy had a KILLER season premiere, followed by an OK episode. The third episode of this season was also pretty darn good though. The McFarlane toons were on this week.

House: Actually rather forgetful. One of the few episodes since like season three or four that I was able to (accidentally, mind) fully ignore. Some of it was interesting but I don't know where the show is going and I don't know if I'll like it when I do. It's just kind of weird and I'm not really sure what's supposed to be going on with any character right now.

Heroes: Let's see. Basically where you didn't want but expected something to be going with Claire (tired of her anyway) went that way. Cool stuff with everyone else (that police psychiatrist is hot, and the deaf chick is rather cool). In all, it was a good one, which I fully expected because last week was a bad one and the premiere was great, and this show seem to ONLY work that way. But a lot of ##### does (Lost) so whatever.

How I Met Your Mother: OK.

The Simpsons: Dumb.

I missed the first two episodes of House season 5 so I had to go through a bunch of trouble on searching for such recent eps online so I could catch up with the regular airtime (since fox uploads the epiodes a week after on tv) and I forgot to watch House on tv again and now I'm like ##### it .

I downloaded the first three eps of Always Sunny and glad I did. charlie Day is hilarious.

The newest House is available on Megavideo right now.

I'm sure the first three are.

Anyway this is season 6 of House, not 5, and it's four episodes in, apparently, though I'm up to date and I also thought it was three. Checking the synopsis for each episode, I realize it has been four and I just forgot about the second episode completely (it was OK I guess, just like the latest one).

Sunday Roundup:

Curb Your Enthusiasm: Yuck. Everything was too crazy and unrealistic and it just felt very off for the entirety of it. I didn't like it. Which is fine, because the rest of the season has been fantastic so far.
Mad Men: OH MAN THIS SHOW IS SO RACIST I LOVE IT
Californication: I seriously forgot how much I love this show. It's stronger than ever right now. David Duchovny is the #####ing man. So many titties.
Dexter: Best season since the first so far. May possibly top it. Seriously epic ##### going on right here.

It's a form of Margaret or an ethnic slur against female Germans.

Oh yeah, I bought season six of Curb Your Enthusiasm on DVD yesterday. I guess I'm gonna buy the DVDs in a backward order. It was expensive enough that I didn't get other things I REALLY want, but they put together their DVD sets well for this show. First off, every season follows the same packaging thankfully, and the discs and book and stuff are all nice so I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase. Pretty, pretty good.

Yeah, packaging is one thing HBO usually does really well. Especially their complete series box sets.

Of course, there are exceptions: Entourage starts out with some of the nicest packaging I've seen and then slowly bastardizes itself as the seasons go on, changing width and height and becoming less sturdy. It's extremely irritating.

Oh, and there actually is a slight difference in the CYE packaging before the sixth season. You have the sixth season, so when you open it the discs are inside like a normal DVD package, where you fold the flaps out and see the DVD's. Everything before either Season 6 does it a little differently, and it's very hard to describe: the packaging looks the same, but you pull the plastic disc-holders out from above and below the packaging. Here, I found a photo since I can't describe it:

That's weird but kind of cool. I really just care that it looks good when it's all put up with the rest.

Oh and the deaf girl that's in CYE season six is in Heroes now too, haha. The the most interesting character in it right, I think.

Thursday Round-up:

Parks and Recreation: Ew. Bad. After such a GREAT run of impressively hilarious episodes, this is kind of a disappointment. I blame it on the lack of Louis CK, as the show miraculously got amazing once he joined and the first episode he doesn't appear in afterwards sucks.
The Office: Back to bleh.
30 Rock: Don't usually watch this, but I had nothing to watch in-between The Office and Always Sunny. It was actually really good.
Always Sunny: OH MY GOD HOLY CRAP OUT-OF-CONTROL HILARIOUS. God-episode. I mean, this was not only the first truly-great episode of the season, but it's one of the all-time funniest. Just perfect.

Missed Community, and I'm debating on whether or not to keep watching FlashForward... because it really sucks, but I love the premise. It's just... hard to watch, so I think I'm gonna' stop.

Community is surprisingly decent for a show starring Joel McHale. Modern Family is the clear winner for best new comedy of the season, though.

Which, I forgot to mention, was really funny again this week.

Catching up by reading the Manga is much more time efficient.

Also, Bleach is currently in a filler saga (which isn't that bad) but has had a lot filler lately anyways.

The second movie was okay, the third movie was decent, but also very lame.

I have a friend who's been trying to get me into Bleach for years. He keeps trying to sell me on the show by showing me "bad-ass" battles from various pivotal moments in the show. Unfortunately, he's done this from all over the series, making it nearly impossible for me to have any context regarding strength.

As such, every battle I've watched has pretty much been your typical anime fight, so I really don't get why everyone thinks it's so great.

I don't know if any of you guys watch The Venture Bros. (you SHOULD!), but the season 4 premiere was tonight.

Now that Hank and Dean don't perpetually stay the same age anymore, they grew up a little bit, and older Hank Venture looks JUST like Wind's character! It's insane! Like, right down to the jacket, even! You can see it in this trailer for Season 4:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gyx9c9cUng

By the way, GREAT premiere. This is easily the best cartoon on the air right now.

The Venture Bros. is probably, hands down, my favourite cartoon, right alongside with Harvey Birdman.

And wow, Hank does look a lot like Wind. I think it's the hair more than anything, but the jacket doesn't help.
