Haha.

So today I just remembered Cheato, and realized that I played through all of the original Banjo-Kazooie without ever visiting Cheato.

Oh, and last night, the bass pedal for my Rock Band drumset broke.

Goddamn. Yeah, it was the old one, but it's like they designed it to perfectly last until a few months after Rock Band 2 came out.

The sad thing is, I'll probably just re-buy the original Rock Band drumset since it's $50 as opposed to $90. Or wait until the new one is cheaper.

Rock Band drumset update:

Fixed it with duct tape. I swear that stuff is going to eventually cure cancer.

Well, beat arcade using Morrigan+Random other characters.

The game is pretty fun. I'd like to try playing with friends, though.

Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, AND PS2.

The Wii version is different from the other versions gameplay wise. There are different levels (and apparently more warehog levels). But the story and FMVs are the same.

It's a good holy 5 pound signs.

Mostly I said it because it's faster. It's... It's much faster than Sonic Adventure style games before it (i.e. 3D running). Before I posted, when I just started the demo I was like "Holy #####..." to myself. There's grinding again, but it's also fast. As well as it all being very fast, it's very smooth. Grind rails must actually be waxed now.

Everything's just really... It's kind of a trip if you're not expecting it the first time you play the demo. It's speedy, and there's clearly multiple paths through these areas like old Sonic games, but you have to have a really good damn reaction time (or play that level a lot) to get that stuff going right. Sonic sometimes goes like "Yeah!" or "Perfect!" and it's actually very encouraging where that kind of stuff has been annoying in the past.

I'm pretty impressed, really. The gameplay is actually quite fun again, and there's quite a few different kinds of things that you have to react split-second too. I'd prefer another level in the demo to be really sure though. I'd rent it first, as with all Sonic games.

I recommend the demo.

I'll definitely download the demo, then.

I'm more worried about the Werehog sections, though. They seem pretty lame. If it was ALL just running Sonic levels I'd have bought it.

It seems like, from the demo, this is what "Sonic The Hedgehog" from a couple years ago should have been. Because, I think anyway, it's more of a return to the feeling I get from the original Sonic games. Speed, quick reactions, multiple paths.

Story-wise, I'll only ever accept something on the level of the first Sonic Adventure for a Sonic game if they're going to try to have a big plot in it. The gameplay system works, they don't need it to be all plot-heavy, so if they want it to be they better do it masterfully like SA1.

Everything I've heard about the game makes me sure to try before I buy, so I'd rent it but I probably won't if there's something else I want more.

I heard the werehog levels are crap... while the normal Sonic levels are amazing.

See? Sega is purposely trying to make Sonic #####ty. They'll amaze us with one thing and then throw something in it to ruin it.

Demo sounds good though.

Oh, that's how the Mirror's Edge and Nuts & Bolts demos were for me a while back.

They released both those demos a few weeks before the games actually came out, which usually doesn't happen.

But basically, I found out that for the first week a demo is available, it's only available to Gold Members. After that, anyone can download it.

Luckily, I'm at home, and my brother has a Gold Membership. So I'm off to try it.

Upon playing the Mirror's Edge demo, I have to say I see what people mean about the controls and/or not really seeing what you're doing, but not it's an issue that's easily dealt with. Once you get past all the boring training it's pretty fun.

The only thing I really don't like is combat, since half the time I can't see what I'm doing. It also makes the ability to disarm someone completely useless if they know you're there.

I'd really rather it be that you have to get to wherever, sometimes with a time limit, and sure sometimes with some enemies, but most importantly if it was VERY free-roam. Because what I really want to do is just run around and jump buildings and stuff. I don't know if it IS like that or not, but that's what I'd like to do.

Yeah. I like the idea of the game more than I think I actually want to play it.

Oh, and apparently my brother ran off to his friend's house with his 360 Hard Drive, the only one with a Gold Membership account on it.

So, I still have MY hard drive, but, hey, no dice on the Sonic demo.

Something bad just happened. My 360 just froze like it did when I was playing Fable II, but it did it during a cutscene in Lego Indiana Jones.

I dislike that game anyway, but now I'm worrying about my Box's health. If I get the RROD, is it even possible to recover save files?

Yes, Those are stored entirely on the hard drive or memory card, neither of which you are required to send in when they repair your 360.

I think you could complain to Microsoft about it and get a repaired or better one. Don't quote me on this because I'm not 100% sure, but a friend of mine did something like that. He had issues with his 360 but they said they wouldn't do anything with it unless it had the red ring.

So he left it on while he was at school with a towel over it.

Came home. Red ring.

I'm sure you don't want to break your box though.

Red rings are caused (primarily) by the fact that Microsoft uses really low quality solder. When it heats up, it cracks, and circuits lose connection.

1-800-FOR-MY-XBOX will get you Microsoft's customer service department that takes care of such matters, but yes, they'll only do something for you if you get a RRoD.

When it does die, make sure to be really, really irate when you talk to them. There's about a 1/3 chance they'll send you an Elite model to replace your broken unit.

You have to put really heavy emphasis on how you gave them the benefit of the doubt. You knew how bad people said it's failure rate was, but you didn't want to believe it, because you didn't think a company as large as Microsoft would put out such shoddy quality products. Also mention how that kind of failure rate would sink any other company, and how you're astonished that it's STILL an issue after three years of production.

Work angles like that. It'll help your case.

Heh. It's sad because the more I play the 360, the more I like it. I hated the original XBOX but the 360 has proven to be what I'd call the best of the current generation, despite the Wii being my favorite.

Anyway.

Finally got around to playing the Sonic Unleashed demo a couple hours ago.

It was... a step in the right direction. I don't know if I'd want to buy it, but it WAS some genuine Sonic fun, and the camera actually isn't terrible this time. It was really fast, too, as Mike said. They finally got the speed right.

My only problem is the Werehog sections, which of course they didn't include in the demo so I have no idea what those will be like. Those are what I'm wary about.

Anyway, good job, Sonic Team. For once.

The Warehog ends up being to Sonic Unleashed what the Tails/Knuckles/Eggman/Rogue stages were to Sonic Adventure 2.

They need to stop trying to add gimmicks to pad the games length.
