I don't hate tanned skin but I certainly don't consider it better or worse than pale skin at this point.

It's just a joke. Caring about skin colour would actually be like going against my own existence and birth (biracial). Really it's derived from an episode of Family Guy, I won't get into it but basically Peter runs through a scene in a park naked while Mayor Adam West is reading a paper or something on a bench. After Peter exits the shot Adam West looks up and off screen and instead of saying the obvious thing about Peter being naked he says "Ugh... Get a tan."

And it was really funny to me, but I'm not gonna bother trying to convince anyone it's funny because that serves to make it less funny.
