E3
« on: 14 June 2010, 20:57:10 »

This year's E3 has kicked off, starting with the thoroughly uninspiring MicroSoft press conference, which only had 1 thing of interest for me: footage of Metal Gear Solid Rising, which I'll probably end up getting on PS3 anyway, due to controller familiarity.

Everything else was bumf... all sequels that I don't care about and anti-gamer nonsense.

Nintendo and Sony don't have much to live up to in the next few days!

You know, the only few things that hype me up, a little, about E3, is hopeful news/gameplay for MvC3. Or MegaMan related stuff, all the rest I can care less.

EDIT: Hope MvC3 does great justice like TvC did for the MegaMan franchise.

I don't know where this info is coming from, plus I'm busy, but I hear on Facebook it's called "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword".

Epic Mickey doesn't look half as good as I had hoped, but Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Metroid and Kid Icarus all look incredible.

I was kind of hoping for a shock Mario Galaxy 3 announcement, though!

Sony really don't stand much of a chance unless they announce something immense.

My god Nintendo murdered... I can't believe how solid their show was.

Metroid Other M is what we should have gotten instead of that Prime FPS #####.  This is looking solid as ##### and day 1 buy.

3DS looks simply amazing so far.  I am a little worried about how it will hold with the analog stick and Dpad like that but I guess we'll see.

The rest was an amazing line up of solid games.  Real solid.  Save for maybe Mario, er Wii Party.  But still, the amount of core gamer material they had up was shocking.

Plus all the 3rd party stuff for 3DS, Metal Gear?  Resident Evil?  I have some high hopes here.

I really can't think of ANYTHING Sony can do to top it.  Hopefully their conference isn't all Move focused like Microsoft's was Kinnect.

Sony's show wasn't AWFUL, but it wasn't great.  It was all 3D GAMING 3D GAMING 3D GAMING.  They didn't spend nearly as much time pushing Move as I thought they would.  They had 2 or 3 games that looked good to me (outside of the FPS bull#####).  I though Sorcery looked interesting if not generic.  Twisted Metal looked good.  In truth though, I thought their PSP lineup blew the PS3 lineup out of the water, and I'm not a big PSP fan.

But in the end, Sony's show looked like Nintendo's compared to Microsoft's.  And Nintendo utterly DESTROYED both Sony and Microsoft.  While they were busy desperately trying to do the "casual waggle" stuff that Nintendo already did, did well, and blew them away with, Nintendo dropped nothing but core game titles with narely a hint of casual and made sport of them.

Wow.  What an E3.  Can't wait for the last of the developer announcements.

New Donkey Kong Country is the biggest thing for me. DKC2 is still one of my favorite games of all time, right up there with MM3.

I still would love to actually SEE how the Nintendo 3DS works. They just sort of talked about how great it's going to be and what a technological marvel it is.

I can't tell what I think about Metroid: Other M. I'm excited for it, but... something just doesn't feel right. Especially when taking into account all the voice-acting and cutscenes in the older trailers, I'm very apprehensive about this. I loved the Prime games and I'm firmly in the camp that those are the best a 3D Metroid could have been. We'll see, though. I really want this game to be great.

The new Kirby looks easy as hell but oh so much fun. I love the art style.

I'm just now looking up all of this.

I'm happy for a new DKC, but it's not what I expected. Still looks real nice though.

Kid Icarus Uprising looks... amazing.

Skyward Sword looks like they took Twilight Princess with a little bit of Windwaker taste to it. I like it.

Kirby's Epic Yarn. Looks good. Reminds me of Yoshi Story.

I'd like to know more about this Paper Mario, Mario Kart, MGS3, and 3DS business though.

Other M looks as close to a 3D Metroid game as you can make and still have it actually be a Metroid game.  If you though the FPS bull##### Prime games were really "the best a 3D Metroid could have been" then I don't know how to finish this sentence without calling your mother a whore.  After this E3 I'm firmly optimistic on Other M.

Any clue when Capcom is doing any sort of presentations this year? I'm curious to see what their big Megaman related suprise is supposed to be.

That's a fair statement.  I only bash them when they're touted as being some definitive textbook case on how perfect a 3D Metroid they are, when they are as far from that as one can get.

They had everything that I personally enjoyed and loved about Metroid, and that's what mattered.

I think a lot of it had to do with the first one coming out at a time when everyone was growing tired of 3D platformers as a whole.

All I know is that representives from Mega Man Network and Protodude's Blogspot were invited by Capcom to attend E3.  So whatever they have planned must be good.  Most likely it will be Mega Man Universe.

But Legends 3 wouldn't be bad either.

They had games between the Luchadors wrestling onstage / Glee Kareoke Group Demo and the guy losing his head onstage, and now it's sit down time to have them overly explain a Hack N Slash's mechanics and the story that nobody will really care about attached to it.

The cutting was pretty cool, yes, but on the people it was a bit TOO realistic and gory for me, I actually winced a bit.  That's the problem you run into when you get graphics that start to approach this level of "realism".
