I'm surprised I didn't already mention Tunic here.

That game is a must have. If you like Hyper Light Drifter or A Link to the Past. I'm always extremely interested in games of that sort, but at the same time I'm very cautious of them because they tend to be shallow or not be that good. I'd say it's definitely not the case with Tunic.

This one struck me as a shallow Zelda clone at first, and there is a degree of inspiration there, but there's definitely nothing out there that's quite like Tunic, and its existence and its success makes me very happy. So if you don't already know about it then consider yourself apprised.

I played it a bit but it was not really fun. There's really bad level design in the new stuff and it definitely didn't help that I don't like X8 very much.

It also doesn't look 16 bit at all. X looks completely out of place in the game's graphics.

I recorded me dying horribly in a boss fight, I feel like the desperation moves should not be 2 shotting me especially when there's no partner switch in this version.

Hey Abe, I know the site proper has been down for years, but seeing as how it's pretty unlikely we'll ever get another proper game, it kinda feels like it would be a good time to put everything back up and have it all as a nice "museum" for the series.  At least you wouldn't have to worry about updates once it's all back up!

Chiming in that it isn't an official image after cross-referencing Megaman X Field Manual as well as X Complete Works and even the museum artwork from X Legacy Collection 2. I tried to look on Wayback Machine but MMM is excluded from it as well as other archive sites, so it may unfortunately be lost to time in regards to that particular X fan image. Maybe another fan site has it tucked away somehow, but that's the most hope I can give after digging around for what you've described in this thread.

There's not a lot of official art to go through so I would assume it was probably fan art, which might make it very hard to find.  I don't personally recall such an image at all though, sorry.
